Spent a couple of hours this afternoon putting the JaMeSz007 short shifter in. Already had a new leather booth from Ebay, but had to go shopping for a new knob. Found a nice polished aluminium one, so got to work. Radio fascia off for the umpteenth time, 2 screws. Another 2 screws for the front of the center console. No chance of getting the old knob off, so cut the old booth off. 2 rubber booths to lift off, 4 screws holding a metal plate, then 4 nuts to undo to get the old stick off. Apart from loosing nuts and a few scratches no major problem putting it together again. Even though the short shifter only looks marginally shorter than the old one, there is a completely new feel. Shorter strokes and more sensitivity. Great
Great to hear! Takes a few day to really get used to the new shifter. Just don't stuff up your shifts and crunch the crap out of the box James.
I had mine in last night :biggrin: .short shifters are not short in height ,it is the measurement of the pivot and ball underneath which shortens the throw mine didnt have the circlip in the package,did yours ??? James i want my circlip :bash: :biggrin: If anyone has one of these and doesnt have small hands good luck with installing it ,i now know why i should have had brats 10 years ago lol
How about you pay for your kit first... and then we can talk about circlips:bash: lol Just noticed that none of the kits came with circlips this time. RIPPED OFF!
C'mon, I didn't find mine until this morning. In my house mail gets put in different places every day, so quite often things go missing. Unfortunately bills seem to reappear over and over again if they don't get paid. No, I did not get the circlip. What's it for ? Is it in the instructions ? Does it do anything ? I have a bolt/nut left over too. BTW, WHO made them ???? 14mm bolt head and 1/2" nut !!!
Slide the metal C-clip(if we had it) over the shifter and into the upper groove of the top shifter piece. This compresses the upper dust boot and holds it in place,i just used a plastic tie ,hows trying to get that one bolt and nut done up lol :bash:
I installed mine today too, but it seems very tight & stiff to shift into gears. Have I done something wrong? Stonie
You might have tightened the long bolt holding the stick to to the gear box bracket too much. I had to let mine of a bit. Hope the nut will not fall off in a year or two
You beat me to it Stef,yeah i reckon you may have done that bolt up to tight therefore closing the forks.you have 2 choices the way i see it 1/leave it the way it is and see in about a week or 2 if it wears in which they do 2/take off the console finisher and loosen the bolt dont forget you have to grease the bolt and also the plastic bushes I will loosen as it wears in so dont stress i havent driven mine yet,but mine also feels fairly tight,it clicks nicely into gears ,but i like it that way as then you cant mistake gears :biggrin:

has any one got a pic of the bolt that could be too tight, I just bought a Z that already had a short shifter installed and its damn tight between gears. I haven't had a car with a short shifter before so just assumed thats how it was ment to be.......
It is the very bottom bolt in the picture. It connects the stick to the fork of the shifting mechanism.

short shifter = bad If your doing track work, and lots of dragging. its why my box's syncro's pissed em self?s early. I should have listened toe the FRANZ from day one when he said not to do it.
Mine is going to have an extension to the top part made so the lever will be longer. Knob is better closer to the steering wheel for ergonomics, just look at most proper race car setups.
