hey chili i do belive that they could have been badly machined . i have had similar situations before when i have actually skimmed them myself and there has been a hard spot in the disk, maybe it got really hot and hit a puddle in that area or something . anyway the machine skips over the hard area and the disks still have run out .

Love the posts Loyd & Kerry

Don't think it is just the disks that are warped:)

That's the first feasible scenario I have heard to date. Given that the trip to Cowra(and the return home) was accomplished in mostly pouring rain, the prospect of hot discs and puddles meeting up, is fairly likely.:zlove::zlove:

Got some near-new stock rotors you can try if you want, Chili....

Dunno what power you hold over me, Chili, but after fitting my new ginormous G4 front brakes I went for a reasonable drive today to bed in the new pads and guess what...?? Bloody steering wheel, etc, took to shaking just as you described at the start of this thread....!!!!
Re-reading the 'destructions' talked of ensuring the rotors are centred within the calipers to 0.04mm (supplied in the kit are a set of washers to ensure accurate fit)... I had relied on eye - obviously, not too accurate!! Any possible connection from when your hub was replaced and/or discs machined and re-fitted...??

    Damned if I know Mike.:eek::eek::confused::confused:
I've just about decided to throw in the towel, after 8yrs of daily driving it(and loving every minute of the experience)it is now an absolute bastard to drive, and totally unenjoyable.:(:(:(
I am convinced that it has something to do with the discs/hubs/bearings(as it first raised it's ugly head when the front bearings were replaced), but no-one can find an answer, or more importantly, a cure.:mad::mad:

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Hang in there Chilster. Someone will come up with a solution.

Did you try the rotors that were on offer from Barry (Angry bear)? How did they go?

Replace it all in one hit, hubs/bearings/calipers/discs and pads.

My money is on the discs though.. i know you said machined and checked and checked and checked.. my money is still on the discs :)

Hang in there dude. Your z is just throwing a tantrum.. have u seen any other z`s lately? Mabey not paid her enough attention? Left her dirty for too long without a wash? Didnt yell at her did you?

I'll ask the dumb question then.......

have you looked at the rear brakes....... ?

Seeing you've discounted just about every posibility up at the front end, maybe the issue is at the rear.

I had a similar issue some time ago and, like you, started removing hair as a solution seemed unatainable.
Shudder through the steering wheel ( slight but there )
Shudder through the brake pedal ( again slight but there )

Shudder most noticable when the brakes were applied at higher than "normal" speeds

I replaced 99% of my front end one step at a time to no avail.......

Then I replaced the rear pads as a general service issue NOT thinking it would be related to the issue and the shudder deminished significantly although still there.

Machined the rear discs and hey presto

    shudder go bye byes
    :D

    I put it down as.....
    1/
shudder through the brake pedal comes via a warped disc
    ( remember ..... you HAVE 4 discs !!! )

    2/
Shudder through the steering wheel comes via a steering or suspension issue
    ( enter Mr. HICAS )
    ;)

Sorry for the dumb question
( I'll return to the peanut gallery now )

    Not so stupid Kingy.
I have ordered new HICAS outer steering arm ball joints, and outer upper control arm bushes from COZ in the US(just because I couldn't think of anything else to try), so while that is being done I will replace the rear pads and have the discs checked. The rear discs are relatively new RDA's(but who knows?).
Will also have a complete fluid replacement and HICAS bleed.:(:(

    Hi Doug,
No, I haven't availed myself of Barry's very generous offer as yet(work and personal commitments have all got in the way), so maybe later, if I'm still lucid enough(and if this red mist in front of my eyes, clears away).

  13. badxtc

    badxtc kirby's bitch

    same same

    hey chili ,,

I've got the same problem as you ,, and Ive had it for a while ,,,
I've changed my front rotors and it seemed to go away, but now its back again..

my steering arm is plucked , so I'm going to change it and see how i go..

if that does not fix the problem , well then i guess i will look into it further...

but yes it may be our wheel bearings....

for some stupid reason i really think its the rack , ( not boobies ) it may feel ok when testing ,, but the road may have a different story...

if you get any more info , let me know ... ill do the same .........................................

Chilli can you take a photo

Chilli can you take a photo for me of your discs. I have watched you problem for a while, and every option I have thought of has been addressed. I must admit my thoughts are actually in you suspension ends areas (front or rear). The disc's surface finish though will give it away if there is a fault with the brakes (as long as if you are not racing it :) )
Badxtc sounds like a suspension bush noting it has return, as it will be wrecking your steering rod ends.

Don't know whether it's any help in your case, Lloyd, but just checked/measured the spacing between the rotors and calipers on my new G4s... LH side was OK, but RH side required fitting one washer (supplied with kit) at top and bottom between caliper and extension mounting plate to centralise rotor in caliper. Result.... no more brake/steering wheel vibration!!!
Hope yours turns out to be as simple....
