hello again im starting a new thread cos my other one (power upgrades) got a bit out of control! i own a 1993 nissan 300zx it a n/a , auto 2+2 im am looking to improve general power, handling etc. i bought it cos thats what i wanted and it was the best around at the time compared to all the others i looked at ie turbo, manual and what i have got now. i dont want it to be a drag or track car and i am not asking to gain 300kws or anything it is just my daily driver and pride and joy i know its auto and n/a, but this time can i please not get burnt on the cross for wanting to improve my dream car and get told im wasting my time cos its auto and n/a! just genuine honest help. i hope this is a bit more clearer this time round thanks and kind regards to everyone chris. =)
Ok first up some good brake pads Set of coilovers whiteline sways Na headers adjustable camber arms FR UDP Histall convertor (auto) and shift kit and maybee a good exhaust if u can afford it . Trev
any recomendations for: .good brake pads? .coilovers im gathering all this is not cheap by the if you can afford it part =), so it will just be time and money what gets done when. thanks for the tips
Coilovers - Tein Super Streets, very popular around here. Around $1500 ish I think, can't remember what I paid for mine. If this is a bit of a stretch you could just go some King Springs and some KYB shocks for under $1k. As soon as you lower it you have to correct the camber otherwise you will be chewing through tyres every 10,000k's or so. So that's another $400ish assuming you can install yourself. Swaybars are around $500 Pod is around $100 Headers are around $500 + install which is a right royal PITA UDP's are around $300ish Full exhaust is between $1200 and $3000 depending on what you are after and what it's made out of. So all that might get you another 20hp. Expensive for what you get huh?
Hey mate I don't mean to be rude or disrespect you in anyway. The last thread you started did answer your question before it got hijacked. Realisticly cost in mind what was stated in the last thread was what you can do to see more power our of your zed. If you don't get the answers your looking for then try the search button or another zed forum
na thats cool, im getting the answers im looking for now in this thread easier than the last one. cos there is more just help than me been told im wasting my time or n/a are crap. If you don't get the answers your looking for then try the search button or another zed forum = sorry to be annoying but im a bit confused now, do you mean another forum in this website or a different website. i know its prob more expensive doing a n/a thats why im not asking for major performance, but thats why im seeking help here to sus my options cheers
Honest to god believe me when I say KEEP IT STOCK for a daily driver. Most suspension mods will have you cursing your car. The roads round here are shocking and I loath my car something. If i could have it lower but with stock spring rates or closer to it that's the way i'd go when I get my TT.
thanks for the help so far, i guess everything is expensive when it comes down to it but i get what ya mean. i know everyone is going to think im stupid, but it really inspires me 2 want to do all this stuff to my car at the same time cos by the sounds of it no else wants to cos its so expensive 2 modify a n/a, especially an auto and i guess that is why everyone opts 2 modify the tt instead. which if i was to do this would make it unique and different cos there would be hardly if any modified n/a auto 300zx's out there chris. =)
Hopefully this give you a decent answer to your question. It helped me decide that upgrading the power of my N/A Auto is a bit of a fruitless pursuit. As has been said before, dropping a MT TT into your car is the best and most cost effective upgrade Even better, buy a TT and get it rebuilt. Will get you a lot more power for your dollar ^^ Like everyone has said. N/A's do not get any decent power gains without NOOOOOOOOOS
NOOOOOOOOOS? Nitrous Oxide Oxide Oxide Oxide Oxide Oxide Oxide Oxide Oxide System? Too much Oxide IMO What i'm trying to say (to original poster) is not so much that dollar for dollar you're wasting your money...no...well yes, but... You're going to ruin your car. If you put coilovers on it, you'll struggle to drive on rough roads. If you lower it (be that shorter springs or coilovers) you're going to need some adjustable suspension arms, OR chew through the tyres (think: VERY fast tyre wear). I'm speaking from experience. I thrash my girl around a bit here and there (not like I used to) but really it would be a horrible daily driver these days, lucky i can walk to work. It's fun on a nice smooth, twisty, dry road, but that's about it. Anything rough and it's a nightmare.
cheers, ok well from what i gather going by that source if i do all that non turbo mods on their minus the nos im only going 2 gain 100hp which will cost x amount of dollars. compared to a tt which has more options 2 choose from via this source with the 1st 4 stages of turbo section = greater than all the non turbo section. but im guessing there are other sources out there that might suggest different? i guess the best way is to really do my homework and sus out as many options as possible. =)
Dude stop trying to find other sources lol, can't you just believe what you read? If you can gain 100 hp i'll eat my own arse.
otay, i think someone likes there NOS! =) happy gas happy gas well the owner before me has either lowered it or mucked around with the front camber cos when i got new tyres the front ones were worn down on the inside only and got told i need a camber kit i think they quoted me around $700ish
i am beleiving what im reading im just doing my homework. i added up the non turbo section if i do all of what it says - the nos it = 100hp gain correct! so as an example i hope no 1 does, but if a doctor told you that you had something wrong with you and you had 1 week 2 live you wouldnt get another opinion and do your homework. you would just go with the first thing you heard. =)
ok what i ment by the search button is many people like you have asked the same questions, look up the top of your page along the blue line three from the rhs an theres a button that says search. (to be honest i hate doing it but sometimes you cn find what your after, some of the older/senior/more knowledgeble members just get frustrated an dont answer questions cause they have been asked before. as for other forums there are differnet forums such as the us one just go to the tech section an i thinks theres links to all the other known zed forums sorry if that didn make sense im multitasking an im not a women.
I have modified my auto NA Apexi Pod, exhaust system (magnaflow cats and mufflers, UAS center resonator, 2.5' pipes), UDP (GFB), full 100k service, all maintainence, new sparks, new pads, HID's, and lots more... Not that it's what you would call 'highly modified' by a long shot, but just saying I have done quite a few of the things you are talking about. If you are happy to learn and do it yourself you will save lots of money and have a great time learning about these amazing cars Next up I want to get some nice wheels, then maybe focus a bit on the brakes (slotted rotors, master cyl brace, new fluid, etc) and suspension (coilovers, sways, struts) Good luck mate
pretty sure that's what I said. As for different forums, theres the USA forum, and apprently the NZ forum I found about 20 minutes ago from a poster who recommended it for something. Can't remember. Too long ago
Btw with pod, exhaust and UDP I gained about 200HP on my NA... Plus a big NISMO sticker and Stillen Oil Cap which added another 50HP or so
