Have you loosened the bolt on the pulley wheel?

theres a bolt you need to get that is accesible through a window in the pulley, then undo the adjuster lock nut, loosen the adjuster and give it a little tap if need be.

Dont remove the long bolt that you access through the puley window though, jsut loosen it

    Hey mate
I have loosened the pivot bolt and the rest of the things you have mentioned and still no movement. I've now got the pulley off aswell. Doesn't look like there is anything holding it back, she just won't budge. If I remove the pivot bolt, I should be able to reposition the pump??

    1. Loosen the pivot bolt (14mm socket?) - normally accessible by rotating the crank until it is visible through the pulley. Since you have removed your pulley, just ensure it's loosened.

    2. Loosen the 8mm nut (12mm socket) on the back of the adjuster.

    3. Loosen the 8mm adjuster bolt (12mm socket or spanner) as much as possible. Ensure you dont remove it completely from the stud it threads into. Its a PITA to get back in

    4. Crack the 2 x 8mm bolts that hold the front adjusting bracket to the block, only a couple of turns each.

The P/S Pump will still be tight to move, but with both hands, you should be able to rotate it in the loosening position (anti-clockwise). No bolts or hoses should need to be removed completely, nor should the pulley.

I have done all the above accept number 4. What would loosening the adjuster mounting bracket achieve???
I will give it a go regardless just curious??

    U gotta loosen

Those two little stubby ones bottom of pump right next to the timing belt cover... They are quite close together I would not be surprised if u didn't see em if engine is in situ and covered with road grime and gunk

nah i saw them clear as day no grime or gunk around, just didnt think to undo them as every tech article including the workshop manual mentioned nothing about them.

All good now big thanks to all who replied

Now off to kill the idiots at repco who gave me the wrong belts even though i gave them the numbers!!! ARRRRGGGHHHHH

What is stopping this from going all the way?

They all ditch me when it comes to the hard stuff!!!

Thought I would revive this thread, as I too am having difficulty changing my power steering pulley pump belt.
Its a Bosch 4pk925 so its the correct size for TT- (I hope)
In the Two Pics you can see I have:

    1. Loosened the main pivot bolt so much it wont let the wheel turn - lol(blue)
    2. Loosened the adjuster nut its almost falling off (blue)
    3. Loosened the adjuster a fair way - you cannot see it in the first pic as its underneath, so I am showing you its loose in picture 2 (yellow arrow pic 1)
4 and 5 loosened the bracket bolts shown in red.

When I loosened it all I moved the pump reasonably easy, then it got tight and stopped where it is pictured!
I tried to lever a little but it doesnt want to move - and thats a reasonable amount of force - enough to get it stuck in position for the moment.
SO I STOPPED and COME HERE TO LISTEN AND LEARN!
Surely the adjustment goes all the way back as it's designed that way (or they would'nt let it slide that far I figure), as I have only a little more to get the belt on (as you can see by the distance of the red line I drew).
I am wondering what could be stopping it? None of us cannot see anything stopping it?

Or have we all missed something or got the wrong bolts??

Is the pump hitting on the block or body somewhere stopping the movment?

    Bloody stupid thing

    Hi Graeme

I cannot see anything hitting at all mate, but its pretty tight in there.

Theres not supposed to be anything in there, except the hoses as far as I can see.

.....it must go all the way, just not sure why its not yet. (almost can get the belt on :()

Not keen enough to get a different size belt yet - (slightly larger) as I'll have less adjustment Might use the adjuster to tighten it and try again.

DVSZED seemed to have the same problem but all of a sudden he got his free, but did'nt mention what the problem was (maybe I got the same pump bug???)

Bodies got a cpl of inches space as far as I can see

Cannot believe the bloody thing has held us all up from getting it back together for two days - lol.:(

What I mean, is that it cannot hit the block or body by design can it.

Graeme - Can you confirm I've done everything right and got all the bolts and that they were the right ones (it will narrow it down for me maybe)

    Cheers
    Jamie (misszens hubby)

    Mitch Has one gear: GO

    So you're just changing belts?

If you can 'almost' get the belt off, what I do is get a bit of the belt off, then slightly crank the engine and let the engine rotation 'pop' it off. DON'T let the engine start, just crack the starter motor for a fraction of a second. Do the same for installation of the new belt.

If you want to get real adventurous, a big screwdriver, pry bar or anything else can be used to make sure the pump is at its slackest setting. Try spraying degreaser around the hinge areas to loosen up any crud which is stopping it from moving freely.

    Bloody pump hose

    Hi Mitch - thanks

No just finishing off a major service

I cut the first belt off as it was due for replacement;)

I'm almost there - but its the pump hose that is holding me back by about an inch

I was thinking of the string trick rather than the crack the starter motor trick - but didnt want to jerk the pump suddenly with the pressure on the hose with the starter method
So I decided to go neither and crank it around by hand - but its just too tight - as it has ended up cutting into the belt

Problem is that this belt 4PK925 is just not gonna fit with the adjustment I have :( I will have to try a 4PK955.

Wondering how much adjustment will be left with the 955 when its in.

Anyone else had to use a 4PK955 instead of the 4PKR925??

The PS belt is always tight, I normally force it on with a screwdriver and cranking the engine by hand with a breaker bar.

Pretty sure that last time I changed mine (with UR UDP) I had to get a new belt as it was too tight.

I didnt get the full adjustment

Anyone else like me, not get the full adjustment from the pump hose?

I think cutting the belt on the crank is a sign, it might be too tight here as well chrispy

Theres a 4PK950 in the catalogue - it should work and give me a little adjustment
    Cheers all for the input
