    Interesting about the RE55's.

I was in Berwick at the Tyre power getting my track wheel alignment. There was one of the Mini's was there that where at the track Sunday getting some new RE55's. ( he lives a few streets away from me )

They where 235/45/17's which would have fitted straight on my fronts.

$345 each fitted/balanced which didnt seem too bad. Apparently there is a class racing ATM that use these as the control tyre. So there is a really good price on them now.

I am going to get a pair of these and a pair of 255/40/17's at the end of June.

I was surprised that they wore as well as they did. The ones I had where pre loved :) when i got them. They didnt actually lose a lot of tred depth over the day. But then again MAYBE I wasnt pushing as hard as I should.

Amazed at the grip when up to temp. Trouble is you needed 2 laps to get them up to temp and the session was maybe only 4-5 laps.

    10 lap sprints FTW ;)

( thanks for the comments Alex. Holy crap your car is quick, Just needs brakes )

Alignment settings came from Roy over at Skylines Australia for his GTST. The inside/outside tyre temps on the zed where perfect so it couldnt have been too far off.

Looks meaner with all that front camber.

Tekkie - an RE55 will "come in" and grip up in around 1.5 to 2 kms - it is al about the technique .... also, an R-spec tyre has a limited number of "heat-cycles" it will tolerate before it loses grip, so they can "wear out" and still have tread left. If your tyres would not "grip-up" for 2 laps, and you are confident your warm-up technique is OK (it is not simply about weaving side-to-side), then your R-sepcs may have been past their use-by date - but since you reckon they dripped well after 2 laps, next time we are at a sprint day together - I'll give you the good oil on tyre warming techique ...

    Thanks Rob,

Sorry i didnt make it to NDSOC the other night. I really wanted to talk about your email. ( thanks for putting the time you did into that)

The tyres are pretty well used but had some usefull tred left on them. Possibly where past their use by date though.

Also after that spin on the warm up lap. I was probably being a bit more conservative till i was sure they where working. :)

There is a lot I can learn from you Rob. Hope you dont mind brain dumping on me. :D Weekends like this give a me a lot of motivation to finish the track car.

Are there any web sites that examine race lines at each track ??

Dont know of any like that Tekkie, this one is good if you ever drive EC. (probably the 2nd best track in Aus behind PI)

And as far as warming the Tyres goes, usually less than one lap of PI since its so long should be ample. At the shorter tracks like Wakefield I usually have the RE55's up to temp for the first flying lap after the out lap.

Hmmmm very interesting videos Robin. Think I learnt a bit.

When and where to change your racing line depending on traffic. Also, I ran wide on a few corners on purpose in a relatively high gear without lifting off to maintain momentum. I did this on Lukey and managed to carry a lot of speed through the corner letting the car drift wide. But then managed to lose it trying to travel over ground to get back on the correct side of the circuit for MG.

Think I should have gone out and followed you for a few laps Robin.

I was also too wide at the start of T2 and should have used the opportunity to fix my problem by passing under brakes :(

    Well Its all good info.

I think you are now hooked .... like I was saying in an earlier post ... 85% of this is mental - being able to visualise your car and its relative location on the track, and then being able to stroke it around the circuit getting each placement right ... hugely rewarding and heaps of fun .... hopefully we can hookup for a BS session over a beer and discuss the motorsports gods in greater detail one day soon

Yeah I'll be up for that. At the moment looking for some parts.

Looking at the vids many times I see my car all over the place. But that's ok 157.4 around the track with full street trim , thats good for my first time on that track. Im verry sure I can go a little better. We never stop learning. Lol.

    • @3.06 that was funny shit
    • @3.45 (to the black zed) dude move ur ass to the left :bash:

    • @7.25 wow wtf
those skylines are quickkkk must have some nice gear.

all in all nice vid, looks like alot more people need to pay attention to their brake/suspension setup rather than all focus on their power...

SAU are taking their bloody time with my membership. If it doesn't go through soon, I might not even make it to the drag day.

Winton sounds like a good idea though, pending membership.

Yeah Chad meant the bit when you nearly ran off the road and I decided to GTFaway from you (down the escape road) cause I didnt know WTF you where gonna do or where you where going. :p:D

You big power guys have a real shock coming if you think 350kw is gonna win all at WINTON. LMAO

Its about handling and brakes not top end power at that track
