in 1.5 yrs the only time ive been pulled over was when i got clocked

at 200km in 100km zone, even then the cop didnt say anything about power to weight.. i guess i had enough fones for the one night..

other than that, i dont cop a 2nd look from cops, sometimes not even one look.. i guess it comes down to 3 things
    1. the way the car looks
    2. the way you drive
    3. the way you look (do you tilt your hat 45 degree's and slope your arm accross the steering wheel, with your seat all the way leaned back? do you put your p plate in the wrong spot to look cool?

i drive normally, i look normal, and so does my car, and when you check out to be normal, the cop has no reason to pull you over.. for being normal!
shit i dont even have insurance, thats why ive taken measures against theft.. and dont pakr it on streets

oh and it should be ILLEGAL to charge 2.5k for fkn insurance!! now thats a real crime

holy ssshit that must've been a huge fine!!!

I drive normal and look normal, infact i despise all those characteristics you just described(specially the hat one)!!! It's those "yo homie" types that get these cars a bad name for themselves with cops. I think i might cancel the insurance by the sounds of things because I never leave it in a car park and it's never parked on the road. And yes... i'm still paying the old's back for the insurance!!!

if red tt was the angel everybody needs to tell them the right thing to do

then im the bad devil one, i say RISK IT!!! whats life without a bit of risk.. chances are (hey it also depends what area your in, im next door to officer petite) you wont get dicked for power to weight, most cops have no idea how to work it out.. infact most cops just dont have any idea.. about anything... car related :)just watch out for the ones that do a u-bolt for ya when they see you cruise past!

I have a cheap ass car aswell

I already had an 88 corolla on LPG!!!! cheapest(and most gutless) car on earth. I decided to keep it so i just drive that one when i'm poor and can't afford petrol. It's an awesome little car.

re;(risk it) too bad IF your Z get's stolen or smashed then..!

and the insurance company laughs at your claim. Don't tempt fate(not literally fate)because it WILL come back to bite you in the ass. Murphy's LAW

I am thinking about keeping the CRX for daily driving because it uses sweet f all fuel, or I could sell it, and mod the Z... mmm. :). Or get a bike... Z and wet weather is scaring me a bit atm. Just gets sideways ridiculously easy, like going over painted strips in 3rd gear @ 50kmh with no acceleration.

Drive the cheap arse car instead

Its your choice whether or not you want to risk it but its not just 'getting caught' you have to worry about. If you have an accident and hurt someone or worse, and its found that you were driving the car illegally, just remember to bend your knees when you go down to pick up the soap

The rest of us will have the luxury of 3rd party person/property insurance. I dont think you will have either despite what you are paying because what insurance company do you know of will fork out money if they dont have to? I'm sure their are clauses in the contract that prevent people making claims when they are driving a car they were not legally allowed to.

    Haha, leave the corolla alone

Yer with the insurance it's just ridiculous that Just Car Insurance are allowed to advertise the way they do targeting P platers saying you'll get full cover on any car when infact it's not full cover it's just a false sense of security and a big waste of $$$.

Up until today I was of the impression that they'll cover anyone with anything which almost justifies the $2500! Now I'm just annoyed.

Sorry for the bullshit-athon everyone, just needed to get it out of my system. :zlove:

    Good point

Well in that case I've made the decision to never drive the Z on my p's ever again, so there is no need to go out looking for me if you're a law enforcement officer;););)

I bought my TT as my first car on my P's in VIC. 180's are actually LEGAL

regarding power/weight. My friend proved this and the cops shut up about it, I have all the info on what actually happened if you are interested to know.

Z32's are actually not legal, I did get insurance on it though and got told several things before this issue became huge, although in a crash I wouldn't have been covered but there are many ways around this so you do get covered  I got pulled over many times on my P's and only got fined for power/weight once. You are meant to lose 3 points but that didn't ever happen to myself or any of my friends who drive similar cars, we just got the fine. You will get unfairly targeted but then again so many wankers give the cops reason for doing so. I use to drive being paranoid about getting pulled over all the time, I use to get followed a lot as well, so if I could do it all over again I would have bought something else.

But lucky enough, the majority of the cops around know hardly anything about imports unless they are toggies. Usually they will just get you for something basic like a major defect for exhaust, wheels and pod or something so that you HAVE to get a rwc to fix all the stuff they didn't know about. There are ways around this also

At the end of the day the decision is up to you, I chose to keep it and drive. I didn't get pulled over for a whole year of driving when I got the car, so it is luck of the draw and also depends on if the cops have met their quotas for the month (yes the actually do have quotas). You will also learn a lot of backstreet short cuts to get around the suburbs in if you do keep it ;)

I got caught, well chased down eventually doing more than twice, almost 3 times the limit in a well known area in melb near the beach at night in heavy-ish traffic :p, racing a friend in his supra and I got let off easily because I was honest to the cop who took my license, came back and asked why I did it and I said 'I was being a f*cken idiot'. Luck of the draw dude, good luck with your decision.

If you have paid your insurance, they will refund you what is remaining

    if you cancel it.

$2.5k isn't bad, my first quote with them when I got the car was $5500 full comp and a $2500 excess. So $8k just to make a claim which is pretty cheap... lol

dont do anything stupid and u will not be done

also dont put your p plates up, this was a good idea i found :)

  20. red32

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Not putting p-plates up is the worst advice you could offer!

Stiff fine and 3 points off if you do happen to get pulled over. Driving within the law is about the only defense you have against being stopped. You can be asked to show your licence even at a random breath-test station... no plates = big trouble.
