Hey guys.... as a P plater with a TT 300zx, am i correct in saying it's actually illegal to drive it because of the power to weight ratio rules? My mate used to have a 180sx on his P's and always got harrassed by cops in our area giving him fines for power/weight. I woulda thought the 300 would be over whatever this ratio is... I've had my car a few months and haven't been pulled over at all (yet) but are there any P platers on here that have these kinds of troubles? Should i dread being pulled over?

    Cheers

    Justin

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Not pulled over YET? You will be!

Sorry Babbb, the TT is outside the P/W restrictions for P-platers... the N/A is fine. Don't despair, though, there are many examples of P-platers owning and driving TT's with no problems. I guess it depends on how you drive, and how innocuous your car is.

    yes it is illegal...

whether you actually get pulled up on it is another matter, but it is illegal in Vic. Forum member Method had big troubles because of this. Also, insurance companies may opt not to pay you in the event of an accident because you are driving an illegal vehicle, even though they will still gladly take your money.

    Cheers

Keep the exterior mods to a minimum and keep the sound (exhaust and stereo) not too loud and the chances of being pulled over will go down slightly. Of course, don't drive like a hoon either..

    Worry about insurance mate.

Insurance will be non valid for driving a car illegally, so god help you if you have at fault with a merc or something might have to sell a kidney to pay for the damage.

    Regards

    Dammit... I liked my kidneys

So basicly there's a fair chance I'm wasting my time by paying Just car insurance $2.5k a year when realistically i should've just gone without the damn insurance and started some kind of "save the kidneys fund"... That sucks.

Thanks for the info guys, might just have to really cut down on driving it for the next 12-18 months :(

    A.C.T. is the key!

It is legal for a L plater in the act to drive drunk, with 500rwkw no rego smoking a bucket bong and letting off fireworks whilst doing a line locker with 36" wheels.

    love the rouge state! :)

Come to WA. No restrictions here.

Otherwise, how will they know its a TT. So long as you dont have bovs / or dont sound them, don't use the bat out of hell acceleration in public areas, or have twin turbo stickers on the back, I doubt there will be many cops who will spot the ducts on the front bar, recognise it as a TT and pull you over.

Just don't drive like a dickhead, or do anything worth getting pulled over for (sure that 5% tint looks nice, but it'll attract attention you don't need)

haha, yer wa & act sounds like the place to be as a P plater. Since i've gotten the car I have never driven like a dickhead and as you said it seems to work! All I need is a bored cop to see me though and my luck will be over

    Just car insurance

Yer it's bullshit.... typical insurance company. Might give them a friendly phone call tomorrow to ask them more about what my $2500 a year is actually achieving(other than lining their pockets)

    Re: Just car insurance

I don't get what your upset about. Your breaking the law by driving the car. That premium would cover your car being stolen / smashed at a car park / etc, but probably not your at fault claims.
