The OZZ engine rebuild project started with the purchase of a second hand VG30DETT in August 2007. The engine was in pretty poor condition and heavily corroded. The strip down commenced?.. The block was machined 20 thou oversize, then in went the forged pistons, Scat rods and racing bearings. On went the sump? Welsh pugs removed and replaced with new.. Head stud kit and metal head gasket was next? The ?Wizard? can do this with his eyes closed? Heads were ported and polished, with oversize valves and heavy duty springs. Heads fitted to block? Painting of the block?. Porting and polishing of the lower plenum? Hydraulic lifters and Camshafts were next? thanks to Wizard! Timing belt and pulleys, water pump and short hard pipes fitted?. Head covers painted and fitted.. Lower front covers and harmonic balancer fitted? Block painted and engine mounting bracket fitted? 300 Degree aftermarket fuel rail with AN fittings? GT675RS (aka GT28R) Turbos fitted? 740cc Nismo injectors to help with the fuel demands of this engine. Insulation of the turbo piping (drivers side)? Insulation of the turbo piping (passenger side)? Upper plenum powder coated in black and front covers painted yellow to match the Zed. Engine was ready to be fitted in June 2009. Rear of engine with divorced dump pipes, bypassed heater, under plenum bypass, new O2 sensors and earthing wiring kit? Top view?. Engine fitted in July 2009 by MRC performance in Castle Hill?. Finally at home where it belongs?http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/images/smilies/zlove.gif After 2000 klms of running in, the dyno results made it all worth while!!!! http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gifAlthough the hip pocket has suffered considerably, it?s certainly not an undertaking for the faint hearted. A few individuals that I would like to thank publicly are: ?Wizard? - for all of his help (mate you are a champion) ?Caz Racing? ? for the great service in the supply of OEM and aftermarket parts Joe ?ZOE-NZX300? ? Many thanks mate for the fan shroud modification.http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif Cheers, John (OZZ)http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/images/smilies/new/biggrin.gif
nice looks great congrats, would love to know the price of a setup like this thinking of doing something similar, if u dont mind shoot us a pm if not dw bout it
WOW fantastic effort on both presentation and performance, I guess price is where you lost out. Congratulations. Was that dyno on pump gas ? Does the curve flatten out at 4200 RPM with the VTC ? Got a couple of ideas for my build up, the insulation on the turbo pipes and dump wrap, thanks. There you go 375kw/500HP at the wheels from GT28r turbos, is this some sort of record ? EDIT: 375.9kw/504HP sorry
Correct me if I am wrong but these are the GT2860RS with 0.64 A/R AKA the 'Disco Potato' Turbos. Very nice build!
Yep you are right, must be a typo above in his post I just wanted to believe GT28r turbos could push those numbers.
well done mate, you must be pretty damn happy with results like that. if you dont mind, could you PM with rough prices on doing a rebuild like this? i've seen a couple sites for workshops who specialize in Silvia's & skylines but never anything for a 300zx and would love to know how much a project like this hits the pocket. cheers mate
That looks amazing John! Are you able to PM me how much that set you back? One day I'd love to put a motor like that in my Zed, but in red of course! :zlove:
loooks very nice, hey where did u get all the painted bits and peices? i was planning on a rebuild myself when i get another engin, and i want to get everything painted black, block and all? is it possible to paint braided lines? and exhausts as well. so it looks just like a standard block/sleeper, with some power prolly not as much as urs. i will appreciate any info i can get as u have already gone thru this process... hey whats the engin heads look like? regards shaun
