    agreed

Garages HIDE the car, and are an added deterent BUT, they can also hide THIEVES giving them pleanty of time to work.

And usually you've supplied them with all the tools they need too :(

i barely ever drive my car nowadays but I just start it up once a week and run it to operating temps for a while and then shut off again...
seems to be alright, just blows out condensation and black gunk from the exhaust and then does its usual thing.

I hate the car...wasting my money sitting there... cant do anything.

    is it for sale?

If you've lost the love, just sell it. There's no shame. Believe me I toyed with the idea as is no secret, but im going to push through and make her right.

if you dont have that drive, just sell it. Its a hunk of metal, not a wife. (ssshhhh, some people on here dont understand that ;))

Too much info is sometimes over load...

    Try this:

    1. Have at least 3/4 of a tank of petrol. Full preferred.
    2. Disconnect the battery and remove it. If someone can charge it while you're gone, great! If not, get a trickler or just buy a new battery when you get back.
    3. Cover each exhaust pipe with plastic bags or something like it. I'd also do this for the pod filter if you have one, but it's not essential.
    4. Turn off the alarm siren.
    5. Lock the car with the key (no battery = remote unlock will not work, so the old fashioned way will have to do).
    6. (Optional) Take out the fuel pump fuse like LnP suggested if you live in a not-so-safe area.
    7. Cover the car with a car cover.
    8. Have a great trip/holiday.

When you get back, BEFORE you start the car, change the oil filter and oil. Then, depending on the age of your radiator fliud, flush the system and replace (go to tech section as you'll have to start the car to do it properly).

I bet all will be sweet.

I doubt at the state its in it'll sell for much at all. I'd estimate about $8k prolly.

Just not the right time to sell it. If I can fetch say $13k for it then it's 100% sold.

Then that will bring me 50% to my target....

I mean the Z is a nice car and all, but for what you get out from what you put in, the ratio is pathetic. It'll always have problems and it'll never run at its full potential. I have no confidence in my car really.

dont lump all zeds in with 1 zed though.

I know EXACTLY where you're coming from and dont think I dont.

If my zed expereince was based 100% on the car I purchased I'd have given in a looooong time ago.

but i have a close mate with an AWSOME zed who had leant it to me on variouse occasions so I know what they SHOULD be like.

And believe me, get a good one, or make your one INTO a good one, and its an awsome awsome thing.

And no, his isn't overly worked either. Just well kept with minimal but sensible mods.

The first zwed i actually drove was a stock as a rock, AND it had been t-boned and then repaired, and even that one blew me away. Such a fine example (i shoudl have brought that one but didn't know what i was looking at at the time and ended up in a 180sx lol)

Im not trying to talk you into zed love. Im just saying that I feel for you 100% and its a shame that bad zeds are further propegating the bad rep.

Oh yeah, and my mate has hardly any maintenance costs even though his beast is a daily.

Its a gamble buying a zed thats for sure. Some get lucky.

Not just luck, it's also about being reeeaaaaally careful when buying. My first z32 was more expensive than most, but she was a beauty with sensible mods and was really quick but reliable.

If you buy a $5k Z, then you'll end up with a problem. But that applies to any car...buy a $25k 328 Ferrari or a $8k 03 Monaro and the same applies...

yes but some people still get caught out when paying over the going rate

even with inspections etc you can still get caught out

but i agree in principle. Its like any car. You CAN reduce the gamble

I think the key is to take your time and be willing to walk away

but you could still wait 3 years, get inspected, pay MORE than most, and still get a lemon

just life and most certainly not limited to zeds alone.

Im trying to make the guy feel better coz i know EXACTLY what he's going through (and i paid $15K for mine and by the sounds of it, he didn't buy a $8K zed either or he wouldn't be wanting $13K back.....)

I know what you're saying and I agree, but I dont think the "you get what you pay for" lack of sympathy attidude goes down well some of the time

    peace up. :zlove:

    Definitely saying this!

Definitely not saying this. I feel for the guy. I lost so much money when I sold my Z31 I went without a car for years due to lack of money and depreciation fright! No, no... I just tried to put the warning out there for all the young 'uns who buy a Z for $5k and then end up spending $20k to make it half decent. My heart goes out to anyone who's had a bad experience; no argument there.

All in all the car is not absolutely POS. just certain things are stopping it from being even "stock" potential and it's disappointing that I feel more excitment driving the Colt than the Z at the moment. My Z was inspected by AMEC pre-purchase and was deemed reasonable...wasn't too exxy either.

But anyway we are way off topic now.

So...I start my Z once every week and it's not any better or worse. Some weeks it drives well some it doesn't. I guess it's prolly up to the humidity and base level of maintenence of the car? I have noticed on rainy weeks the car is more suck than usual..

Best to take out all the fuses , in that row :)
Take me all of 2 secs to swap 1 into the fuel pump spot .

i deliberatly bought a z that was cheap as chips fully knowing that i would have massive work to do, but as expensive and slow as it is, i still cant help but smile when ever i get in the car... if you cant do that with these machines, its tiem to go... especially if you get a better feeling from a Colt..

The first one was a lemon too, spent plenty of cash on it to get it to run "normally", still had plenty of problems, and lots o rust on the underbody.

So that one got sold ASAP. (and crashed by the drunk P plater)

Now the second one was a rush decision...I trusted the inspection report too much...if I had waited like 2 weeks...then a heap of NSW Z's would have come on the market :p..then at least I could have inspected them personally.

But yeah. these 2 horrid cars have left nothing but bitterness about nissan for me. Everytime I drive out I don't smile, I turn the radio off and windows down listening for dodgey sounds and letting the exhaust fumes out of the car...while the ass end vibrates like crazy and the coilpack connectors fall off.

And all that is just the basic "cosmetic" problems that I know of. Who knows what ferrets and racoons live inside the engine proper. I'm scared to find out what other problems it has.

Anyway, I guess I just keep pouring in the money till it goes well, I want it to go well, as good and awesome as an Evo 8 might be it just isn't the same as the Z shape. My budget has no limit but I don't want to be wasting the money.

I'm sure if NSW Zedders have a tech day, they'll...

be happy to help out with most of these probs, or at least identify the probs so you can make an informed decision.

Whatever you decide - all the best with it.
