You will get there in the end. Im almost done.

Its interesting building the engine, i know i had a good time. I went with a FMIC.

    Every day you get closer.

After i get a n exhaust next week i will be able to drive it again. WOHOO.

I think my SS are a tad soft in the rebound. But thats just me.

I like the air dam. I want to do the same but driving my car is more important. Was it hard to knock up.

Finally finished the air dam, pretty happy with it I must admit :)

    Here's some more snaps

    my old koyo rad
    [IMG]
bit of sikaflex and some foam from bunnings
    [IMG]
    the front all foamed up!
the back foamed up too, with a window weather sticky back thing to seal in the radiator shroud
    [IMG]
some more foam sikaflexed onto the back/bottom of the AC radiator
    [IMG]
with the radiator in place, you can see how the bottom is sealed with that foam
    [IMG]
    the horn module
    [IMG]
I wonder if this air dam will make the horn sound lounder?
    snap from the front
    [IMG]
this snap is from down low looking up, you can see the horn up there, even though it's facing the front I think that location should be pretty protected from rain etc cos the rain would have to fly upwards on too sharp of an angle
    [IMG]
all sealed in place with the nose panel (disclaimer: the nose panel and front bar haven't been sanded/buffed yet :) its still fresh off the gun)

All that air going into the front will probably bend the air con thing in half :p

    Looks tops!

Nice work. It would be interesting to see what sort of pressure you will be getting in the front now compared to a stock setup.

You didn't re-install the front thermo?

No I didn't... we'll see how it goes. If the car overheats in summer with the aircon on then I'll look into my options. Where I've mounted the oil cooler might clash with the thermo, but I never really test-fitted it to see (I mounted the oil cooler a little further back than normal to give more space for the air filter)

I made up some mounting brackets for the SMIC's and am now making up some ducting for them... the ducting is a funny shape cos the inlets on the front bar are a strange shape! :)

Far out mate, top marks for ingenuity. I love the work you have doen with the airdam. The trial I did with the exapnder foam seem to improve efficiency with the 16" Davies Craig Thermo quite a bit. I could run along with ambients around 26C with A/C on and thermo off and temps where steady around 86C at 100KM/Hr. This exercise proves just how ineffcient the stock cooling system really is as the stock fan will pull the temp all the way down to 80-82 where the thermostat is controlling rather than reduce the viscous clutch to nill effort.

Got to ask, did you make up that fibreglass/plastic shroud for the thermo fan? It does look quite nice and similar to the AshSpec item. I am keen to try the big single from an FG Falcon when I can get my hands on one.

it was the ashspec shroud - it's taken me this many years to progress to actually installing it!!! :)

    thanks for the compliments~

looks great and I'm sure helps force the flow where you want it but I can't help but wonder how much does all this ducting weigh?

Well the stock radiator overflow tank had to go, it doesn't fit with the upgraded SMIC's, so it's replacement is a supercheapo that I'm yet to figure out how to fit the thing :)

Also somewhere along the way, I ditched the power steering hardline that runs along the front of the car - I figure it's there to provide a little bit of cooling... so I've picked up one of those davies craig oil coolers, again from supercheapo - still trying to figure out where is the best place for this to go...

And lastly, I'm gonna replace my negative battery lead... The old and the new (spiderweb approach - lots of interconnections between the heads, block, gearbox and chassis)

Well next weekend is the plan :) this is beautiful "targa off" weather too! looking forward to driving the zed :zlove:

For those that are interested in where I mounted the power steering cooler and the radiator overflow tank, here's the completed pics:

the return line goes up that hole to where the power steering reservoir is (hicas eliminated)

    this tank worked out nicely
    [IMG]
I made this bracket out of angle-bar, just made a few cuts and bent it to shape.. It's quite strong
    [IMG]
you can see how i'm using oil cooler hose to go up where the stock re-fill pipe was - i'll put a bolt in the end to block it off when I'm not pushing a funnel into it to top it up... the overflow hose (not yet connected) will just go up a little and sit in the guard... underneath the tank is a thread that I'll buy a hose connector for to run the hose from the radiator to the bottom of this tank

bllooooooody brilliant work ethics there man. i absolutly love the air dam. that looks so kool.

what is the square opening in the upper section of the intercoolers duct for ?

side indicator lights - the electrical connector protrudes wayyy back and comes within about 1 inch of the face of the SMIC... the rest of that flat section is raised about 2 inches from the SMIC... so that section has a cutout and I've covered it with a flexible foam to serve as a 1 way valve (in a sense).

Hopefully the foam stops too much of the air from flowing backwards through that hole - I expect most will still go through the SMIC as it's not very restrictive

    3" dual exhaust

Early this year I bought a heap of 135 degree mandrel bends in 3" stainless (409) and bought some stainless flanges etc to complement my Sz split dumps and metalcat cats and stainless 3" resonators (ebay) and some stainless 3" (there's a story there - I'll elaborate later) mufflers (again off ebay).

It's function over form in the design of this exhaust system. The gradual expansion to 3" in the dump pipes and then 3" all the way through except for the mufflers where I expanded it a little further...

The most impressive thing about this exhaust, was that it completely sits above the chassis rails - so if I ever bottom out then it should be safe from damage (fingers crossed!). I'll post pics later to show how tight the clearance is - getting a 3" system above the chassis rails is quite a challenge! The hardest part is around the starter motor and gearbox...

Here's some pics showing the system all the way up to the rear diff where the muffler section connects up (I'll show pics of that later)

Drivers side dump here - narrowband and wideband O2 with EGT bung a little lower down... drilling and tapping through stainless is a pleasure! (not)
Passenger side dump here - EGT bung on the inside seemed to be a good location for it
    [IMG]

Mummify the cat! I had to stop half way cos I ran out of the wrap, will get some more asap to finish it off :)

nice work on the exhaust mate.. one question tho with all those extra bungs is it going 2 be possible 2 do those dumps up!!! damn

I've read that having seperate exhausts can cause backpressure problems and somehow cause smoke and other odditys, all this solved by a simple H or X pipe. Not first hand expereince, just what i've read on this forum!
