Well after several delays over nearly 6 months the 300zx is finally getting its new engine.

My first tip, if you are in a rush and think paying someone else to do it means a quick turn around this may not be the case. I had to wait ~3 months for room to be free in toms Shop (he is a busy guy) then due to parts delays it dragged out another 2.5 months.

2nd Tip - Get an RAC road side assistance membership and save money on towing your poor zed across perth.

here is my neglected baby being hoisted onto the RAC truck to be dropped off.

Car was dropped off yesterday, just called Tom to confirm he has it and he said he will let me know when work begins.

Fingers crossed the turbos are fine, will update as Tom provides new info.

Not much progress yet, just called tom to check - Old engine is still in the zed but it is ready to be hoisted out which should happen sometime this week.

The one issue Im concerned about is the turbo's, I have priced up getting them swapped and it works out at only

~$650 for a pair of rebuilt turbos for the zed (providing you get the $300 deposit back else $950). Since the engine is coming out, Id like to make sure the turbos are sweet and then hopefully I will have a reasonably reliable zed (as far as zeds go).

LOL, quite possibly, Join the queue mate.

Nice, given the unwashed and unloved state of my zed it could be an improvement :p

2 weeks at Toms shop now but no progress, I just called Tom then and he said he has been off last week due a back injury (that has to suck) and he isnt sure if the engine will be swapped this week either.

This waiting is killing me, ~6 month wait for an engine and now the engine and the car are the same shop and still waiting.

On the plus side, by the time I get this engine swap done I might have my license back already (only another 2 months to go) :p . :br:

I spent about 8 grand at pzp, how long do think that took! And it broke down 3 times after all that.
Do it with my mates from here now. Pretty quick that way.
I feel your pain. Zed seperation is not pleasent. That's why I have two now.

6 months for an engine swap is pretty ridiculous!

What patience ? Im pretty much out of it.

3 months to waiting for engine and shop room, sure I can work that.

Extra 3 month delay while waiting on bolts from japan when they can be sourced locally / from america much quicker, hrmmmmm not thrilled but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt (customs can be ****s).

Sitting for 5 weeks at a shop when the swap should have been done in a week, waiting for parts again.......... (power steering hoses or something).

Im not saying these are not all legit delays, but I am getting tired of hearing about the latest reason for no progress. Engine was ready when the car was dropped off, 5 weeks later nothing.

    Not thrilled.

    In my case.
1 weekend to pull out engine. 1 week to send the engine to VIC (Orger Engines) by train. Parts ordered at CZP same time. Engine and parts arrived same day in VIC. Another week to get the new engine and heads ready. Next week back to perth by same train. Next long weekend new engine in. Monday at tuner shop to get base tune. No dicking around. 6 weeks max.

To be fair, I was told there was a 3 month wait, so with that factored in it was ~2 month delay for the book in and ~5weeks + so far while the car is in the shop. So 3+ months including delays is a more accurate.

Here was me thinking paying up front would give me a little bit of priority placement, no such luck.

Sorry, but that's a TERRIBLE idea!

Regardless of how reputable or not-so-reputable the person who is doing the work is, you pay for the work that has been undertaken, only when you're happy it's to an agreed or regularly accepted standard.

You have a receipt for your cash pay-up right? ;)

Invoice and bank transfers so no stress there. Paying for a replacement engine to be built up upfront is fair imho. Since the labour was the smallest cost I didnt bother me to pay that either. Im sure there is nothing dodgey going on, just a long delay.

Thats pretty crap, Brian at Brytech in Geelong gave a me a full engine reco, swapped out ALMOST ALL my bushes for energy ones, rejigged my drivers side seat rail and replaced a PS line and a few other random ones in less than a week! (I provided 99.99% of parts)

Drop off Saturday morning pick up Friday arvo, more than impressed given hes got his own set of health issues. Wish more mechanics could deliver that sort of service!
