Haha yes - all the small screws clamps, joiners, adaptors etc have started adding up to a significant amount I didn't factor for lol XD. Mine may be starting up this week (hopefully) not completely in road worthy condition but)
Yeah, i'm well aware that my budget is gunna blow out by massive amounts. Just makes it a tad more justifiable when I say $10k
Shhh! I'll manage that just with the major mods I want... Maybe not with the little bits that I don't think of.
back when i was into V8's and reading street machine religiously, there was a rule of thumb. calculate how much you will need for the rebuild, then double it. its true. about 5000$s ago, i thought I was 1500$ off finishing what i wanted to get done. 1500 for a interior trim, assuming the money i gave to bryan would have gotten me the tt conversion, then I would have just needed body work. about 6k of a tt swap later, I still need to pay for rwc, rego, unreg permits, and then tyres of my 19's, now suspension etc, then pay a shop to set that all up right, get allignment done. not to be preachy, but on top of what I paid for the TT plus labour, I had to put in an order with coz twice to get all the little things, even switches for the gearbox to replace the old ones. so theres another grand'ish. but thats enough about me....
All work will be done at home, except for things like exhaust obviously. I do intend on having this budget blow out, definitely not by double though. Plus I will be recouping some costs from the donor car.
So this thread has 18 months to run before the TT conversion. btw, there are a couple of upgrades for the auto transmission. Changing the resistors to different values to get faster shift changes. (Maybe someone would consider using a variable resistor to enable dial-able shift speed) The other option is they paddle shift kit. There are a couple of other upgrades, but the above probably have more appeal.
A bit less then 18 months. I'm dropping a MT into the car in probably 4 months, so the AT will be getting sold.
I don't have any technical knowhow in the slightest, but I do intend on learning it all before the day comes. I'll also be holding a tech day for it, so there will be other helping hands. How I see it is that I'll have a car sitting at my place for two years until I actually need it, may aswell learn everything I need whilst there's margin for error. Whereas when I do the swap, the car is my daily so there's absolutely no margin for error what so ever :/
jamie I cant work out why you need to waste so much money on power, seriously we raced on about 250rwkw and at oran park at 1.24sec there is only about 5 on here faster max, our mate who had heaps more power than us was actually slower because he couldnt even keep it in a straight line too much sideways tyre shredding power, ie undrivable
So i've been thinking more and more about this in the past week or so and comparing it to other people's builds... Does anyone here think I can actually hit 350kw with this gear? From what i'm reading I feel like it'd need head work done too...
To be brutally honest .... I think you will be falling short . In saying that I could be surprised. But 300rwkw will still be plenty of fun on a road car and you may even get traction :O
Well it's already at 290rwkw on pump fuel and the mods it has, 305rwkw on E85. Maxed out at 305 because the turbos are only good for 300kw. I'm thinking I'd probably fall short by 20kw or so...
You said you'd be highly disappointed if you fell short with the work you've done, it's the same here. Nope, car isn't registered, red stickered and I'm a P plater already fighting a driving offence, there's no chance I'm risking it again.
