    Oil Line Fittings

I would highly recomend the use of stainless steel fittings rather than brass where they are installed into the engine. Brass is a copper alloy and all copper alloys are subject to work hardening and fatigue. The engine vibration will eventually cause the elbow to snap. Pumping contents of sump onto ground and all over nice clean engine bay.

I know this from experience having installed a brass elbow and ball valve into a sump drain plug of a brand new $100,000 detroit diesel series 60 engine in an army landing craft.

Fortunately we had two such engines installed and were able to limp home on one with lots of oil splashing around in the bilges. This did not take long, we were on sea trials with only a hundred hours or so on the engines at the time.

I would hate to hear of a similar fate for your Z.

    P.S.

Large engines always use Prelube systems. By large i mean ships engines with thousands of kW. These are normally electric pump types.

    i have a question

do you need to fill the car with more engine oil as a result of having a "storage" of oil that looks to be about 600ml? if you don't, how does the system account for the loss of oil to the tank?

i have never heard of these before, but god it sounds like an excellent idea! i have a similar lifter noise on dead cold startup that lasts for around 5 seconds

    cheers

Thats a perfect name for the mystery toggle switch. You can turn to your passenger and say "Dont touch that or you will turn on the AMsoiler!!" :D

    some answers.....

yes, you do have to add more oil. The installation procedure says this:

After installation, run engine for 30-40 seconds and then switch off. This is enough time to fill the accumulator tank.

Check oil level and add appropriate amount of oil to full mark.

When I did this, the level on the dipstick dropped about 1/4 below the full mark. I added the extra oil, checked it a few days and its still on the full mark.

Just by eye, the tank looks big enough to maybe hold 300-500 mls of oil.....

    Cheers

got more info on it? I posted a post about electric oil pumps in line with stock to prime the engine a while back but no one knew anything about it or mentioned these so I am keen. PM me more info if you can chewy.

    Thanks

    Some extra info....

Ok, well it seems a group buy may go ahead.... so far, the following people have expressed an interest (not definite though except for a few)..

    Pexzed
    Zweet
    Dett-Head
    MikeB
    Zrated
    ltd
    method

I would please ask that before this group buy goes ahead, that people first examine their engine bays for a location where the accumulator tank can be mounted. I would hate myself if people bought the kit and then could not install it. Where I mounted it was the only place I had available, but many people may still have the normal EGR or AIV solenoids in that location. Also, I dont know what the "plumbing" is like in that area for TT's so that may complicate the issue... Mounting the solenoid will be easy, its the tank thats difficult...

I would try and obtain or make a cylinder out of cardboard that is 3 x 9 inch. Also leave about another 2 inches below that for the conection of the hose and hose fittings.... the tank must be installed either vertical or near vertical with the opening at the bottom....

Once people have confirmed that they can in fact fit the tank in their engine bay, then I will organise the group buy...:)

I will also provide part numbers and info on the extra brass fittings that I bought from Pirtek.

    Cheers

    Another Question Jedi

How to drain the tank when doing oil changes?
600 ml is a lot of old oil to leave in there to contaminate the new oil,
can a release valve be fitted to allow the old oil to be removed?

    oil drainage....

the tank comes with an air valve (you can see it in my pics above, silver thing sticking out the side) which looks like a fancy tire valve. To drain the oil, you essentially turn the key to "ON" to activate the solenoid and then the oil will be released into the engine to drain. After that, if you still think there is some oil left in the tank, you can use a normal tire pump to add some pressure to the tank and this will essentially force all the oil out of the tank into the engine... then you just drain the sump as normal.

    Cheers

Sounds very interesting Mark... I to have lifter noise at start up :( I still do have my AIV's but yeah i guess i could remove them hehehe :D

Do you think we could get this added to the tech section?

With the gauge do you think there could be somewhere else that you can see if.. I know you could most likey see it when you pop the bonnet on your zed but yeah too many things on a TT hehe :p

the GB does sound interesting also...

Well if its going to portect the engine then why not... If it works well for Mark i am sure it will work well for others...

    guage and group buy....

dude, the group buy will go ahead once I hear back from some TT owners whether they have actually found a cosy spot to put the tank. I'll put a group buy thing in the group buy section next week...

as for the guage, the guage can be mounted anywhere.... the kit comes with 6 feet of hydraulic hose and the guage / solenoid can be mounted either directy to the tank or anywhere along the length of hydraulic hose....

I mounted mine near the strut tower / brake master cylinder area because I had a fair bit of room under there....

You TT guys will have to see where you have some room...:)

    Cheers

also, I have no probs with this being put in the tech section...

I've had a bit of a look around my TT engine bay this afternoon, in the rain and cold I might add!, and I can't really find anywhere with enough room to install the tank. I've still got all the AIV and other stuff installed as far as I know.
I know alot of people have removed all the AIV stuff but none of the guides I can find say what the system actually does. Can someone give me small explanation by any chance?

    AIV's

    From what I remember.

They at idle inject air prior to the cat to try and help burn up the excess fuel thus improving emissions

Righty O then, well if nissan deleted them they can't have been all that important so i'm happy to lose them.

So next question, is the AIV associated stuff the only bits and peices in that little corner area where we know this tank fits?

    i'm in 100%

I have been speaking to my assembler/machinist about something like this for ages although I never came across it, nor did anyone reply on tt.net when I posted it up there. Mark, you are a legend!!!

I think people who hesitate on something like this have no idea how important something like this is and how much less prone to wear your entire engines rotating assembly will be.

I have nothing in my engine bay anymore, not even the abs plugs, besides the power steering pot and EFI harness there is nothing else, so I am sure it will fit :)

Just email me with the details for the GB and payment info etc, as I don't get the chance to browse these as often as I use to.

    Thanks Mark
