Hey Nicko. I recently brought a qld car down to nsw. It had qld rego but still needed a blue slip. My mech sent me to his prefered supplier. The car was lowered and had some modifications with one that blind freddy would have seen while on a hoist.
If you get the car and u need a blue slip place in syd, send a pm.

Sorry for the lack of responses, but i've been working serious overtime and due to that and other things i've decided not to get the Xr8, hence although i'm still selling the Z, it's not that urgent for me.

Basically i'm selling because i do very little driving here in melb (4000km since last october and a chunk of that was on cruises) and when i do it seems i often need to seat 4 large people or carry a decent load, or negotiate heavy traffic and supermarket carparks, so i'm probably going to go for something a little more practical, although i'll probably go a while without a car at all! (when you live near the city, they don't seem that neccessary in melbourne),

so, I'll post the info i sent in response to a few members questions here and anyone that wants pics can pm me their email address.

Given i'm not looking for the quick alternative to a trade in, I'm now asking a little more (but still reasonable i feel).

I'm looking to sell without RWC as i just don't want the hassle and the out of pocket expense (if any) before i sell it, all the Z shops are far enough of out of the way that getting to them while i'm working long hours over the next few weeks just isn't going to happen, Last RWC was in october, 4000km ago, I would budget for a worst case of probably 2 front tyres, passenger seatbelt repair/replace and the usual misc suspension bushings. But thats just my best guess. Personally when i brought it, i brought without RWC and spent around $400-$500 getting some suspension components replaced, getting the exhaust lifted (it was too low) and that was about it!


Price now offered at is $9500 ono, James007 smics (when they arrive) and unused apexi pod available for $500 and $100 respectively as additions

(Redbook says $9,400 - $12,700 for a 1990, i think the '89 model listed is a Z31 on there, so i think this is a reasonable price)

to those that have offered very low prices (like $3K), sorry, but its not even worth selling a car for that, and i'm actually not in a critical position, so the vultures can stop circling.

I'd prefer a hassle free buyer, you'll either need cash or to arrange your own finance, no 17 year olds who want to pay me off over 2 years please

To the best of my knowledge (and i'm no mechanic) car runs well and as it should.

Q:Have you sorted your A/C centre vents?
A: Nope, Aircon can make the car cold/warm well enough for me, but from my observation it would mainly seem to be coming from the windscreen vents, it hasn't been important enough for me to spend the money to fix.

Q:Any engine, gearbox, steering rack, brake booster, turbo, or diff leaks.
A: No patches under the car and no leaks that i can see.

Q:Any bearing noises or vibrations from the drive train?
A: Nothing significant although there may be a small vibration, on the other hand it may be in my head, I find it hard to tell the difference between basic 17 year old car stuff and distinct vibration. Generally feels pretty smooth in my unexpert opinion though, I've noticed that if i listen very carefully can hear a faint sound (thrust bearing or something?) when i lift foot on/off clutch in neutral

Qoes the engine idle smoothly?
A: Yep, to the best of my understanding, i would call the idle smooth

Q:Any smoke under acceleration or at rest?
A: Nope, none that i can see at all.

Q:Again i need to confirm that you have not done a head gasket or cracked a head through the overheating. Have you checked the oil for water residue and the water for oil residue? Does your engine operate at the normal operating temp? Have you had it looked at by a mechanic to access possible damage?
A: to be honest, i don't really know what i'm looking for as far as water in oil, oil in water, but both look like i'm used to them looking. I have an accurate 350z oil pressure sender installed and oil pressure is good, water temp seems to get up to normal levels on the stock guage as it always has and doesn't move past there. Haven't had it looked at by a mechanic, partly because i'm not 100% sure the local mechanics wouldn't make up symptoms to make more money, and partly because i haven't noticed any issues.


Q: full catalogue of parts, accessories etc that are included in the deal.
DB: bankkids HID kit (low beam, 6000k), was fitted, removed the other day, ballasts and globes. (makes a world of difference), will be supplied unfitted, 20 mins to refit.

I've ordered and paid for new "MOFO" SMIC's in james007 group by ($530), haven't arrived yet.

Notes: Issues, pretty comprehensive list of everything small/big i've noticed at all since i've had the car.

1. Passenger seatbelt retractor can somes be finicky and stay extended when you get out of the car unless you work it a bit, might be an easy fix, might be a new seatbelt (door mounted)

2. Gauge bonnet above cluster has a couple of small holes where boost guages was mounted.

3. Clock is temperamental

4. Tyres can scrape against guard at full lock with a heavy load in car or when turning on the sharp incline of my drive

5. New front tyres probably needed

6. couple of small paint chips near handle on passenger door (touch up should fix em)

7. Gearbox can sometimes be a bit notchy if you try to shift really fast, but i've heard many of them are like that and the mechanic said it was normal... (i think i'm just used to newer cars

8. After stereo install, vinyl trim not perfectly lined up next to back seats

9. Small dent from my elbow resting on it in top of centre glovebox thing (not noticable unless you feel for it)

10. Strip that covers screws on centre console keeps falling off (apparently common)

11. Front of bonnet doesn't quite sit right since rebuild (although barely noticeable, mm's off , but might be to a Z enthusiast), Guys at tech day reckon wasn't adjusted right where it hinges

12. I've had the hicas light momentarily flicker on once or twice during the 8 months i've had it (for a couple seconds)

13. Plastic swing down panel in passenger footwell is loose, might be missing 1 or 2 clips

14. Button on alarm remote doesn't always unlock doors first time

15. Rear factory spoiler has some small bubbling (seems to be quite common)

16. Drivers side clips on Targa sun shades broken (but shade still stays in place fine)


Notes: Things i've had done since i brought it.
Nissport - Rebuild including
Heads (inc new valves, springs and lifters)
Removal of under plenum hoses
New Clutch
flywheel machined
Parts washed etc
some new hoses & clamps
New Radiator end tank and radiator rodded.
Some injectors replaced with replacement stock ones
New O2 Sensors's

Cylinders and pistons checked and in excellent cond.


Also minor roadworthy work, exhaust was hanging slightly too low and some suspension bushings and upper control arms needing replacing.

Nissport - Oil & filter change 1000km after rebuild

Z Shop - Redline in the gearbox, fixed a problem i had with low idle and sometimes stalling (cleaned connectors, adjusted base idle)

Z Shop - Replace Aircon compressor with second hand one after it seized, had unorthodox racing UDP and new accessory belts installed at the same time. Also had caz racing Alloy lower radiator pipe installed

AutoBahn - Stereo installed

Nissport/Zshop - Boost leaks fixed when other stuff being done, was pretty good as far as boost leaks go after last work was done at Zshop, couple 1000 K ago (aircon compressor)

Myself - Installed New Gear knob and shift boot + handbrake boot


Notes: To me the car appears to run well, although possibly with some minor boost leaks (these seems to be a regular maintenance feature , turbos boost properly etc going from the stock guage. but i'm not an expert, and i haven't driven another Z since my NA a few years back so there is always the possbility that it's not up to 'standard'. Basically, as i see it, it's in good condition, but not having experienced others, i'm cautious about over selling it.

Currently has Victorian Reg to Sept, Last had a RWC last october. Front Tyres and possibly passenger seatbelt would be my RWC expectations but the seatbelt did pass last time.

if being sold out of state, we may be able to knock a little off the price if i can get a partial reg refund from vicroads

Car has Hicas, no 'lock bars etc'
Running standard boost, no boost controllers etc

Both Nissport & ZShop have told me the car is 'strong', but of course you can't trust mechanics who are trying to sell you things!

All up, including purchase, mechanical work, stereo etc, I've spent in the area of $20K on this car since Sept/Oct last year
