ABZ300 im in Bendigo which is a city an hour and a half north of melbourne over 100,000 population but uve prob never heard of it lol thanks for the offer

so being that the bonnet is alimunium wouldent that heat up the bay more? or disperse it faster? i understand a smaller diamater wheel will have better acceleration but if the tyre was wider you could gain more traction off the line so 18's wouldent be so bad for that reason or even 17's that were wide right? my friend has a 300zx and his brakes started cooking 1 time but he had aftermarket wheels (and was giving it a good run) so the stock 1's are suposed to cool the brakes.

sounds like a big job changing the sub frame.... cant you just get hicas lock bars or somthing? or just take em off to save weight? they only kick in at 80kmph or so right? id want mone to be used for track aswell though occasionally so maybe leave it on?

Welcome to the Forum :) Yeeha, another Bendigo member!

I'll PM you my mobile number, happy for you to try my TT out for yourself, maybe on a dry road this time :D

And I'll try to give you a clearer idea of what you're up against for maintenance & modifying :)

How did u know it was me Mick? haha.
yeah might take you up on that probably closer to when im buying a 300zx. doing my research on here lol.

i should be right with maintenence because ive never had to use a mechanic. ive replaced head gaskets and done a timing belt on a quad cam engine etc but yeah i know the engine bays are fairly packed but thats half the fun lol

A zed engine is a whole different world compared to other "normal" engines :)

I do know where Bendigo is LOL and i am down that side a bit actually :) Mick's zed is quite nice and definitely worth a ride :) Defnitely closer to Mick than me...

Not really... just things are more cramped to a lot of other cars, an internal combustion engine is an internal combustion engine.

LOL thats what i meant :) when people see a zed engine bay with the big V6 engine sitting there lauging at them, thats how its different :)

your NA abz is less complex then a FTO engine both are :
    v6
    DOHC (2 cams per head)
    Naturally aspirated

the FTO has variable valve timing though(Mivec) and the engine is mounted transversely (east west)

Big jobs are ok as long as you plan for them and they arnt unexpected and require you to work on the side of the road with no alcohol to help you haha

I really don't think you should be comparing the two until you've actually worked on a Z.

I find with the right cooling setup your bonnet won't get much heat transfer.

18's are fine I have 18's...I'm just saying nothing bigger IMO...something lightweight with good wide tyres should be great for traction.

Yeah suppose it is a big job...my car was an NA with TT conversion so I didn't have to worry about it....you can get a lock out bar as well...or leave as is.

And btw to ur previous post...Z's are very roomy in the front seat...i'm 6' 3 and have more than enough leg room :)

i have loosened the timing belt cover to check the condition of the timing belt for a mate on a NA 300zx but thats about all.

yeah im 6 foot 1 but i meant the passanger seat the legroom didnt seem like much but was probably because some1 was squished in the back but its not enough to deter me from buy a z:)

how much weight can you save with NA subframe?

Both the NA and TT engine of the 300zx have "variable valve timing". So no, the FTO motor is not more complex.

There is less leg room in the passengers side of a Z32 Than the drivers side.

The ECU is under the passenger floor reducing foot room by about 4+ inches

I stand corrected Jedi77 thats pretty good technology for 1989.

i think my mates 2 seater NA had the ecu relocated maybe because there seemed to be more room in the passanger side and there was this board under the carpet that didnt look stock.... do people relocate them or was this just some random dodgy bit of think wood in my mates car?

    Wooden board...

No, the wooden board in the passenger side footwell under the carpet is normal. All us zed owners have it :) Essentially, if you unbolt and remove that board, you will find the ECU, the AT Controller (if its an auto) and the cruise control computer (if it has cruise control).

It depends on the car and on luck....

When I sold my grey NA zed on carsales, it was snapped up within 2 months. The Blue TT I have now was on Carsales for about 8 months, and he did have a few interested buyers, but none were serious. It was advertised for $14500, which most people thought was too much. But after I saw the car in person, and the fact that it was a 1993, I was happy to pay that price. Talked him down a bit because I had to get the clutch replaced etc etc, but he still made $13000 on the sale. These days, Zeds only seem to be bought by people who really have an interest in them or an enthusiast, rather than the casual buyer. Also, a lot of Zeds on carsales have crazy arse bodykits or modifications that some buyers just dont want, I certainly didnt. So my advise is to buy one that is relatively unmolested. Also, I would probably buy a car from the forum before carsales, because you can check the history of the car on the forum. And there are some very fine examples for sale. Good luck.

    Buying a Zed from interstate.

I have to agree with Jedi and others who have advised about buying your first Z32 from a REPUTABLE Forum member.
You can back track the history of the car by reading previous threads from the seller.

This might mean buying it from interstate.
    I know you stipulated red but this silver Zed in WA is hard to beat for value-for-money ;

Knowing what I know now about Z32's, I would happily fly over to WA to buy it.
Then drive it back to VIC fairly quickly :D
