    As I said

People have had the stock ones since the cars came out and Ive never heard of a problem.

The laws regarding lights mainly revolve around globe type lights. Its so cars dont get confused about your direction of travel, and so you wont be confused with emergency services etc. Its a lot different from a glowing "300zx". I cant imagine a cop pulling you over for it.

If your really pedantic about your car and dont have it lowered, or have a pod filter or BOVs, then get a red one or just be safe and leave it stock.

Personally I think it would never be an issue but thats up to each person to decide for themselves. There is no difference in getting one of these in any color you like compared to getting a stock illuminated one in terms of the legality.

    Red Panel

I contacted UAS and yes its a series 4 2000 model centre panel and yes it does light up with the parking lights, but only comes in red, this is also due to the fact that the parking lights are red also so it blends in with the one colour. Red is the only one legal.

You can buy it for $205 but only in red

I am not sure if its the same as the one Nathan is getting it from but, UAS tells me that it works off the parking lights and it glows.

Does anyone out there have a series 4 2000 model centre panel. Just to be sure

    Thanks

$205 for light-up (albeit in red) rear centre panel?! Are you sure?

I think whoever you talked to was confused

They sell the 2000 spec centre panel for $205. Its listed on their website. You can click the picture and see a close up. The 2000 spec panel has red writing for the "300zx". Light cannot be passed through this paint, it must be removed in order to make it illuminated.

They do not come illuminated as a stock part from Nissan, in red or any other color. If UAS is willing to make them illuminated for the same cost as the stock panel, then Id definately recommend going for that, but then there would be no reason they couldnt make it any color because it needs to be pulled apart to do this.

    Hope this clarifies.

PS I recommend you read this article. It may clarify for you some of the issues about creating an illuminated panel and help people decide if its worth the extra $80 :)
I think the first paragraph about breaking 2 panels attempting it is important.

    UAS Red Panel

I just contacted them and on their website it states $205. I am not sure if they are the same as Nathan's, but UAS told me that they do glow with the parking lights. This is why I need confirmation from another Z owner who has a Series 4 2000 model panel if this is so.

    UAS

This is why I needed confirmation, this is what they told me. I don't want to confuse anyone but this is what they said. Nathan Where do you get these from the USA? So basically u get the new series panel with the writing sanded off as clear and the illuminator light shines through depending on what colour you get and works off the parking lights. Is that right?

    Yes that is correct

And its taken off the license plate globe power source rather than the parking lights.

Who did you speak to at UAS? If you dont believe me all I can suggest is that you buy the part from UAS and make sure you get it in writing that the "300zx" will be illuminated when you recieve it. There should be quite a few members here though that have upgraded their lights so Im sure someone will chip in with confirmation eventually.

emergency vehicles (for example police, fire and rescue,
and ambulance). Red lights and reflectors must face to
the rear. White lights and reflectors must face forward.
Yellow lights are not permitted except for clearance
lights on goods vehicles and buses, and indicators and

    Yeah I agree

Btw, the cutoff varies depending on whose bringing it into the country. Private couriers, i.e. fedex, UPS etc have a lower limit for payment of customs and duties. Its a higher threshold if it enters via australia post, i.e. USPS, thats why we always use USPS for everything.

Mine has a green 300ZX light on the rear panel and this seems to be

ok according to the QLD rules. However I did notice the fog lights should only come on when the parking lights are on. The Zed fog lights come on independently from all others - oh well, just have to live in the fast lane I guess!

    UAS Clear things Up

I contacted Nissan in Texas USA and and they informed me that the 2000 model series 4 centre panel does not light up. UAS is wrong in saying that it does.

    Nathan

Let us know on Monday with the orders at this stage I am changing the colour to RED

    Cheers
