Damn Dougy Oh well they don't last forever and you have had a good run. Time you went TT anyway. If i can help with anything, just yell out.
Tough break Doug, but unfortunately engines don't last forever. Do the conversion and enjoy the new power. If Jen or I can help in any way......you know the number.
Update on DREDZ's condition Firstly, many thanks to everyone for their sympathetic comments, and for the offers of assistance, and also the several PMs and information re sourcing a replacement engine. But we have something of a conundrum! We can't figure out where the oil came from! There was definitely oil in the top of the radiator and on the seal of the radiator cap. There was about 3cm of sludge in the overflow bottle. But a compression test showed the same numbers as several years ago and leak-down testing showed no loss of pressure. The cooling system also held pressure overnight. This suggests there are no cracks in the block or heads and that the gaskets are still intact. So, where the heck did the oil come from? The solution - to drive the old girl until it happens again! I'm a bit nervous about travelling the 1900km to Dubbo and back, but we'll see what happens in the next 2 weeks. See you soon (fingers crossed).
Is it possible that the leak is only apparent when the engine is hot and the oil circulating. Ie, with the motor running, the sustained oil pressure may be enough to squeeze the oil past a tiny leak which is otherwise not apparent when the engine is cold and not running.
Yeah, I'll still be going to Dubbo, even if I have to take the Camry (what the heck - the Toyota Nationals are on there as well ) I've just got to drive the Zed between now and then and monitor the radiator for oil.
Good to hear Zed or not...good to know you will be coming would be great if you could bring the zed Abraham
Your car is an automatic, right? Perhaps it's the trans cooler that's leaking oil into the coolant circuit.
It's auto, but I have a separate trans oil cooler. Interestingly, the radiator repair guy says he's never known a bottom tank to fail that way -some comfort for auto owners.
Final update... Good news! 3000km later and still no oil except where it should be. Still no ideas as to why there was oil in the coolant, but since it hasn't re-appeared, I'm going to pretend it never happened (no I'm not, I'll continue to monitor the cooling system each morning.) Again, thanks to everyone for the offers of help.
