Just a random question out of curiosity...Given the car is old now, I'm wondering how many members Air-Con still works?

Mine is awesome. It's ice cold and really powerful...and always has been for the entire time I've had the car...

I've been cranking mine up all summer so far...can't stand to be without it on these 35+ days. This summer is a scorcher over here...

Who's been driving around without it and who can't live without it?

    Cheers
    Rob. :)

Although mine works, I wouldn't call it rock solid. It's not that icy cold and takes a while to notice that it's working. Probably just needs a re-gas.

Mine works well but it can take a while to get cold if the car has been in the sun for any length of time. Takes a while for the hot vents to cool I guess. I do have a problem with the climate control though as it always runs cold, even if set at 20C on an 18C day for instance. It will get so cold I have to slow the fan down or my passengers complain.

Mine didn't work when I bought it - had it regassed after getting stuck in traffic at 35deg  and its been fine ever since...:zlove:

I had this problem for a while - have a search in the Tech section for the article on repairing the climate control fan near the interior light....if your car has been sitting in the sun without the fan working the sensor is reading the warm air trappedround the map lights and keeps trying to cool it down....

So they seem to be good...

It's nice to know that even after almost 20 years the system still works. After a while they usually develop leaks or simply stop working so I was curious as to how many of you have a working system.

I had to regass my Peugeot yesterday and it got me thinking about how good the Zed Air-Con was, even though it's old...

    - JEDI-77, great sig pic...the 2000 bar looks awesome on Gun Metal Grey paint...nice work... :)

    Cheers

Mine didn't work when I got it but I have been doing reasonably well with the fan and open windows/targas off.

This is my second summer owning it and I am still undecided about fixing or removing it so it can't be too bad.

How much weight did you save and how much extra power do you gain not having air con?

    red32 You talkin' to me?

    Bloody oath it does!
Came back to Melbourne from Goulburn a while back after a heater-core failure and subsequent bypass. It was raining heavily, so in order to eliminate the condensation from inside the car I had to run the aircon. By the time I got home, the bottle of 'Coke' in the back of the car was colder than the bottle of 'Coke' that the wife had in the fridge (and so was I!).

Im british. I dont need it to work. I just pull off the roof, slap a hankey over my head, and watch myself turn lobster red in the rear view mirror.

    Air con

Yah mine i had it regassed 2 months ago. It was working fine for a month. Then now the compressor has a big leak. More a less the compressor have to be changed. And now been driving around without the air con. The heat is killing me. Thought of buying a second hand compressor but been thinking about it because the workmanship is very expensive around 500 bucks. And if the second hand compressor also gets spoiled, its all gone. So i dono what to do now.

DIY with a second hand compressor. Pretty easy to get to. Only problem will be if you have the back bolt of the compressor there, cause its a PITA to get to.
