55 is all clear, that is the normal code

Run a good fuel with high octane and chech your timing. Hopefully will fix that problem, Jedi has been trying for ages to get rid of pinging for ages, send him a PM.

Yeah I have the same problem, some fuel is better than others and some servos are better than others when it come to this problem, I regularly have the problem after filling up at a servo while on a big trip and suddenly the car is pinging, and after using up this fuel and filling up again the pinging disappears.

If it gets really bad run some octane booster till you have used up the fuel. Is your pinging all through the acceleration range or just under light acceleration? If under light acceleration then its probably from your jspec ecu and its timing map. If all through the acceleration range it means something is wrong and needs attention (or really sh!tty fuel).

Another thing you can do is run some injector cleaner through as dirty injectors can make the problem worse. And if you can try not to let the engine ping too much ie accelerate harder or back off which ever stops the pinging when it happens.

The issue is Jpsec ECU's. As they run 100 octane in Japan the timing in Jspec cars is much more advanced in the ECU.

After I changed to Auspec eprom in my Jspec NA all the pinging stopped.

    Looks like it

Looks like it probably is the jspec ecu....how much for ausspec and is it just a c/o job I could do?

    ahhhh the ping gremlin...

do a search on pinging and my username.... I had heaps of problems with this and the only way to fix it was to get a UniChip and get some timing taken out of the small part of the map where it was pinging.... the ping gremlin has mostly gone, however, on really hot days (36+), with the aircon on, it will still a ping a little.... these days, I just dont drive the zed on really hot days and take the wifes car (toyota camry) instead.... or just drive around with the aircon off and roofs off...:)

the next thing I will be doing is removing my injectors and sending them away for analysis and a good clean..... thats the only thing left to do as all else has been checked or replaced....

thankfully, so far my zed has handled the hot days well with no audible sign of pinging...... lets see how it goes with the rest of summer....

    Cheers

All you have to do is mention Jedi and he magically appears, the force is strong with that one... :p

Your going to have a challenger for the top power street NA Zed spot by the end of next year *evil laughter*

    I'm all for it...:)

I want to see more high power NA's, with higher dyno figures than mine. I have reached the max for my NA in regards to what I want to do engine wise.... now I'm starting down the TT path...:)

    Cheers

    BigCol That's what she said...

I have an aus-spec and I still get pinging under light throttle.

I think that Jedi's is 156 RWKW, have a look on the dyno list...

I'm gonna go ported heads, big cams, maybe the 3.3L bottom end off the Navara (I'm sure I read somewhere that the Z heads will bolt up  ) and NOS if I have too :p

My Ausspec N/A audibly pings on anything less than 98 RON. It doesn't have any vacuum leaks of any significance. Timing is set to 17 btdc though and is probably a contributor.

I suppose it should run fine on standard unleaded (91??) as I think that's the fuel we had in Aussie when it was sold ('90). Out of interest I might try setting it to 15 degrees and see if it pings on 91 or 95 RON.

    Cheers,

    Peter

    power

last dyno figure was 155rwkw, but I'm a pessimist and think that that figure is a little high and I must have had a generous dyno..:) But the car feels nice.....
