Unfortunately not. I do data entry (mail outs, excel spreadsheets etc.) full time. I'm just glad to have a job in this economic climate. Now you probably understand why I'm so saddened by having to sell one of the cars It's a lot of money to me.
A tough call indeed I would say regardless of which car you sell you will feel saddened. It will most likely boil down to which of the 2 cars left will give you the most joy. Given that this is a dichotomy you will need to go with the car that offers the greatest joy. Maybe a write up a 'P.M.I' on each car Plus is the P - what do you like (objective & subjective) Minus is the M - what don't you like (as above) Interesting is the I - This is for things that fit neither plus or minus (such as the Zed or MR2 history in motorsports?) or a Pro's (for) & Con's (against) On paper you will see which one offers that most joy? Zed or MR2. Hope this helps somewhat. Pete I personally feel that a cost spent versus return is the wrong avenue to take on our cars. I think that most people spend on their Zed car as a means of keeping maintenance up and adding for what ever reason e.g. sports performance, bling ect ect. Yes, we get a return but never proportinate to what we spend. Be wise spend well, but don't expect the same in return.
sell it... If the love is gone, there's no point in keeping it. You'll just be pissing money into the wind on something you dont enjoy.
Hmm... 300ZX Pros: - Fast - 4 seats - Good looking - Targa Cons: - High maintenance / Can be unreliable - Big / Heavy - Creaks, knocks, rattles / Feels its age MR2 Pros: - Small, light and agile - Reliable and economical - Good looking - Targa - Feels like a new car Cons: - Two seater - Slow as is
Definately boost it to 12 psi and take it for a spin before you decide anything. For a few bucks for a couple of welding tips (boost jets) and the loan of a boost gauge to set it up you will find the car feels heaps more responsive and more fun to drive. Then you will know if you want to commit to zed ownership, which will involve dollars to maintain and upgrade. :zlove::zlove::zlove:
One cancels out the other. On the basis that in Pro's & Con's a Pro cancels out a con (or visa versa) the MR2 wins. The Z had 4 Pro's and 3 cons = 1 Pro The MR2 had 5 Pro's and 2 Con's = 3 Pro's!! Although, the pro's & con's was not a huge list the MR2 stays and the 300ZX goes according to your list. Yes, rather simplistic but it works.
HIgh maintenance/unreliable- only if you dont do the maintenance right in the first place big heavy- wouldnt say its big, but heavy yes, but power output compensates creaks, knocks, rattles/feels its age- refer back to maintenance, you do it right all this disappears so from what your saying there, you dont want to spend the time and/or money maintaining a car... go buy a honda...
SELL Get out quick. If you dont love the car then there is no point sinking $$$ into it I SHOULD have sold mine on day 1 and got my buy price back again. As it is I now LOVE the car (i always loved zeds, but got a lemon is all) but I have to see it through which means throwing $$$ and blood and sweat into it. My advice if you love your MR2 is get shot of the Zed. But at the end of the day, it's only a choice YOU can make.
What you should have done was fix your bloody boost leaks haha. I say sell it and buy a Top Gear "Geoff" that's one super car. Mines reliable, its my daily. Only problem I've ever had was the auto tranny, other than that its been great. Anyway boost it to 12psi, not sure why people use "boost jets" a turbo tech is only $30. :S
If you wanted it to feel smaller you should have bought a 2 seater. I can suggest maybe: strip some weight out of it, get some bucket seats, fold the rear seats down, retrim it in darker colours, lastly if you're keeping and spending $, cage it. All will make it feel like a smaller car. Or you could just sell it and buy a small car? It's not big car but it aint never going to be be as small as a MR2.
I'd say sell it also. I've had 3 zeds and all 2 seaters, mainly because I don't care much for the token seats in the back that you can't fit anyone or anything into. Mine is up for sale at the moment, after it pissed me off, I quickly chucked it up for sale. Having said that, I've warmed to it again, and I'm making no effort to make it sell - it's my daily and I love it. (between you and I, the missus was also getting sick of me spending money on it, but that's under control now! ) I used to think of a zed as a sports car, now I see it more of a GT - get in, pack some essentials, and go for a long drive, interstate, etc.. I think that's what a zed is more about. The more maintenance I do on my car, the more I love it - I'm learning with the aid of some great people on here, and the list of things I can do myself keeps growing. Take the car, grab the missus and go for a road trip - that's what it's all about mate! If you don't enjoy yourself, sell and sell fast! Good luck! -Kirill
I've made up my mind... The zed has to go The thing that convinced me... I'm on my P's. TT = bad idea.
