(QLD) Well .... I was on my way to the shops, just stopped at a traffic light. Not doing anything at all and some cop with a bad day had to make quota.

Anyway I just wanted to know if anyone has been defected for this or knows if they are actually defects.

Car was too low... - Yeah I'll cop that one.

The next one I'm not to happy with...
( Not my car but same exhaust )

He said you are not allowed to have your exhaust angled towards the passenger side. He said it is Illegal because it polutes pedestrians on foot paths..

I looked up the laws and Section 130 (2)(b) of Transport Operations (Road Use Management?Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 2010 it says this:

    (i) horizontally or at an angle of not over 45? downwards; and
(ii) under 750mm above ground level; and
(iii) towards the rear, or to the right, of the vehicle.

(Not my steering wheel but basically exactly the same)

He said that the steering wheel needs to be padded and since it has metal in the middle without padding on it that it is illegal??

If anyone has any knowledge of these defects or how to rectify it please PM me or let me know... I really dont feel like replacing my exhaust which I paid thousands for.

aww dude that sucks :( sorry to hear, i believe that exhaust one is bullshit. There are a million jdm cars with that same angle on the same side and they arent defected for it.

Where would I go to get mod Plates or get compliance for my exhaust? I've had it on for years and been pulled over numerous times for RBT's and a cop has never said a thing about it....

Have to agree with Chrispy on this one.

It has always been illegal in NSW to have the exhaust angled towards the footpath, steering wheels MUST have a padded centre.:(:zlove:

Im sure you can change the angle the exhaust is sitting at and as for the steering wheel...borrow a stock steering wheel temporarily and once you have been cleared you can put your aftermarket wheel back on if your keen on that one...good luck.

I don't have to get any of the Defects "Cleared", He just fined me and said if I get pulled over again and have these same defects my car is getting impounded. Where do you go to get Mod Plates and compliance for modifications?

Mod plates are only for major mods like brake upgrades, engine swaps, converting a car into a convertible etc. You can't get a mod plate for what you want.

He really should of referred you to go to QLD transport for an inspection to clear the defects. Did you get a notice of defect or just a fine?

Just Fines... Got like 3 infringement notices. I've been reading up and places do say if you have an aftermarket exhaust you should get a mod plate/compliance or it is a defectable part?

There is definitely no mod plate to cover exhausts in QLD. You could probably get a certificate of some sort for noise test.

Yeah that is a old pic in my Sig, It was sitting under 100mm

    @ Chili and Chrispy.

In regards to my exhaust I'm pretty confident your both wrong according to the road management transport Act and the ADR.

The only thing it says is if your exhaust is coming out the side of the car instead of the rear it must come out the drivers side and not the passenger side.

An angled exhaust tip at the rear of the vehicle seems to be fine from everything I have read. I'm getting a engineer to look at it and give me compliance on it in a week so I will keep you informed.

With reference to the exhaust coming out the drivers side, it was also required "to be angled downward so that the exit of the exhaust gasses are BELOW the height of the concrete kerb adjacent to the footpath"
This was in place as far back as the early Sixties(when I had a Morgan 4/4 which had a side exhaust on the passenger side). Unless this restriction has been revoked, it would still apply to angled rear exhaust outlets(on the left side).

There are different rules and regulations for exhausts that come out the side of the car and out the rear of the car.

Is this just you "Assuming" that the side exhaust rule applies to exhausts exiting out the rear or is it actually stated somewhere?

Cause in the road transport ACT and ADR they have the rules for both and it doesn't say anything about an angled exhaust at the rear being illegal in any way shape or form. It does say you are not allowed to have it exiting the middle of the car on the passenger side but my exhaust doesn't do that.

Here is the relevent section of ADR42/00. This matter is also not mentioned in any ADR's relating to general safety. Imho your exhaust is perfectly acceptable providing it meets correct noise and emmision requirements.
