Could a 300 be made to handle close to or as well as 4wd turbos like Skyline/EVO etc

    Agreed :D

    but.......

as mentioned by the majority, there are many things that can be changed/modified to vastly improve the standard setup.

things to add to the list that many have ignored / forgotten.........

    Brakes:
An upgrade here will see some major improvements in cornering abilities, even simple brake ducting will make for an improved braking system over the standard setup when driving twisties let alone circut work

    widened wheel track:
not done by many but handling improvements are there for those searching for every minor gain.
NB- alot will depend on wheel size and tyre configeration/type ;)

    chassis stiffening:
again not generaly done, but there are some big gains to be had here.
Add to that front and rear strut tower braces ;)

    Areo kit:
Sadly, most of them are for looks
Veilside is the exception, no-one knows what the hell its for
    but
a good areo kit will direct the air flow far more effeciently than the std body lines do, the right choice in front, side,& rear parts can acheive better down forces

    &

    the driver:

This is the one thing that makes the package complete, pointless excersise putting a novice behind the wheel of a race car, they simply will never get the best from the car.......
attend advanced driver courses, attened race craft courses etc etc etc.....

knowing what to do with what you have will see major improvements.

you wont beat that evo, but you'll frighten the crap out of them

ok ok ok, so and dont flame me for this as I know John has spent assloads on the UAS slot car....but i seemed to kick it pretty good at the world time attack..no it didnt beat the cyber Evo but I am sure it does handle better than any stock evo....or once again am i wrong?? COuld this car be used as a bench mark?? Anyone know what he runs apart from the usual?

lol it's also had about 6 times as much money spent on it than it costs to buy a stock evo :)

And alot of that has been in R&D, alot of what JP has learnt with the slot car, has been transposed onto Black Beasts car.

They should have used LEAF SPINGS on the Z32....

and real live axle... just like the modern day Shelby Cobra Mustangs and Corvettes. Now that would have made the Z32 handle faaar better than an Evo or anything else really. Hey Shelby and GM did it.

At the end of the day, WHO CARES.....

The Z32 has been there done that. Let it rest in peace people... if not, sell it, bin it buy an EVO or a Gogomobile which will do anything better that a Z32 ever will.

That's it, I'm now taking my incompetent bastard of a Z to the tip to join the rest of the classic muscle cars that were ditched ions ago because they were considered buckets of fuel guzling, boat handling garbage.

Now, if we could only turn back time....$$$$$$$$$

Think you all missed my point.

UNLESS you do a lot of R&D and examine the developments in geometry over the Skylines. Then adapt them to the Z32. You will never get it to handle as good as it should have out of the box.

Do what JP has done to the slot car and you MAY just get there.

Truth be known, no ones road car is going to have this done. THEREFORE none will get close to the EVO.

Developed track car will probably do it after a LOT of work.

    Zed = fun to drive

that's why I love my NA

removed lots of weight, small mods, loads of torque, loads of fun. You don't need to be doing 120mph in 11 seconds to have fun on the road, nor do you need to be driving a shopping trolley.

If you really want a car that drives on the road nice and smooth to drive you kids around, traction control, etc etc, you get the latest EVO, xr6t or HSV with all the bells and whistles

If you want to be excited when you drive, then you drive something which is going to kill you if you give too much throttle through the corner =]

I drive brand new cars every day which can be driven effortlessly and make all the decisions for you, and I cant wait to jump back into my little NA zed!

Boost our big yella could do 1.24 around oran park GP which is not bad but the Evo we were chasing could do 1.20 secs because they pull out of corners better but it was a 50K car compared to our 5K zed that is the only true test around a track with time elapsed

On a more serious note though...

I watch Top Gear and 5th Gear and they have tested the Evos against the WRX and even Lambos and the Evos are extraordinary. They are far better than any WRX and dare I say even better than a modern day Lambo.

I remember the Top Gear Episode where Geremy was chasing the Lambo around the track. Lambo was driven by some race car driver and could not get away from the EVO at all. In the end the Lambo lost it and spun. Geremy was having the time of his live in that EVO, for him it was a walk in the park.

Evos are wicked for what they are and for the money and with a little more twicking so to speak, they would be ridiculous.

Now could a 20YO say Ferrari be as good as a new EVO??? I seriously doubt it. The Z is 20+YO now designs move on sometimes for the better sometimes not but the Evo is 4wd also.

What I would like to know is..... is an EVO better than a GTIR?? because they were insane hatches when they came out and I believe they still are, also how do they compare to the GTR for example, more of a fair comparison really.

In addition, in one of their episodes, Top Gear did a test by putting aftermarket stuff on a family car to make it go faster round the track. They threw everyting at this thing, BRAKES, WHEELS/SLEAKS? coilovers, spoilers and the end result = slower than std setup. Go figure....

thats because any car is a package ie brakes suit speed diff ratios close ratios g/boxes etc match the max torque at a said speed so best result, but if you just change something for no known benefit reason it actually goes slower around the track

Wrx's are shit. Sti spec c owns every evo from factory look it up. If I had to pick out of trio it would be the 22b sti, evo 6 tme then a gtr.

its not about how fast you can go through the corners its about how much fun you can have doing it :br:

A true Z owner gets out from the clanking, hissing, steaming car and physically pushes his car through the corners. While talking about how awesome his new front strut bar is.

I disagree...have you driven an EVO or S3? (both trump the WRX and a GTR for corner speed) They are so easy to drive fast that it becomes a little mundane. A car you have to "drive" is much more fun, even if it is physically slower through the corner, it can "feel" one hell of a lot faster, especially when it goes a little wrong.
