"Best Ever" Gauge Housing... Anyone else have fitment issues?

OK so I bought one of those "best ever" gauge housings from Street to Strip a very long time ago and had it covered in leather by the guys who did my retrim.

Finally got around to fitting it and it does not sit flush with my dash... the auto meter gauges are hitting the dash.

Anyone else have problems fitting one of these?

Or has anyone fitted with different gauges and found they work OK?

Pic below shows what I mean, see at the rear of the housing it does not meet the dash

guess ur guages are just too big/long.... only other suggestion if you are definatly keeping that pod 100% then cut away at the dash where the gauges foul

Mine has the same problem. I made it fit a bit better than yours by putting some spacers where you have it mounted to the centre bezel. If you lift it off the bezel where its mounted, it will be flush with the dash.

Its not the best fitting gauge pod but it'll do.

I used electronic Stewart Warner gauges and they don't hit the dash at all.

Thanks mate, yeah it's already spaced out a little, will have to mess around some more.

Yeah not sure if it just me though?

EDIT just read oni's post so looks like not just me.

Thought about modding the dash but they are like $1600AUD new (from Nissan AUS) so I'm not too keen!

What about putting spacer rings around the guages between the face and housing to push the guages forward thus making more room at the rear and maybe letting the housing sit lower?.By the looks you don't need much more room for a neat fit.
    Just a idea. dave

Gotta cut the dash, thats why i didn't get one. I reckon a dual A-pillar gauge pod looks better or a triple

Hmm no mention of that in the original ad despite the pictures showing the housing fitted with autometer gauges?

Mine fitted perfectly when used with slimmer gauges(current gauges are "stepper motors" type internals which are much slimmer than most others).
There was no need to modify the dash in any way.

Thanks Lloyd, yes I remember seeing yours in the flesh and thinking it fit quite nicely.

Might have to look into these slimmer gauges.... decisions, decisions!

I had almost identical gauges to Lloyd and I had to cut into my dash because the pod was sitting like yours is in the pic.
I figured I had already drilled a hole through it for the wires so there was no going back anyway! haha

I've customised the pod now anyway to fit the Microtech dash so in retrospect I didn't need to cut it up.... ohh well, still looks good and covers the holes. :D

If you do decide to get slimmer gauges....

What are you going to do with the current ones?

I assume one is oil pressure, water temp... something else?

    :p Dibs.

    Why not use spacers?

Maybe the best ever gauge holder should have been tested against all possible gauges before they went to market :) Clearly they are defective

Well I guess you need to talk to STS about that.:p:rolleyes::zlove:
Best of luck(but bear in mind that I didn't need to make even one alteration to my Dash or Fascia to get mine to fit neatly, and I have no holes for wiring either).:zlove:

Assuming a fair amount of tongue in cheek there stu? :p

Ha, this makes replacing the dash (should I want to ditch the housing at any stage) look cheap :D

if it dosnt fit perfectly i wouldn't cut up the dash, there's plenty of other options for the gauges.
or, have the dash retrimmed in what ever material you like and have the dash pod molded on, now that would look good!
