where you get them side SMIC from?

My SMIC's aren't made any more as they were originally from a (infamous) group buy from a couple of years ago where they were made overseas and brought in.

Just get the Japtek's that are available in FSBB section. They look pretty much the same spec IC's. :)

Benny, Benny, Benny..... your quest for max balls on stock internals is inspiring. I hope you take care of it man, dont wanna see an "....oops...'' thread anytime soon.

Also i see you mentioned the NPower dumps which are Tunagent copies. Im running origional Tunagents, and im pretty sure they are restrictive up top in the revs. Could i advise that your next endeavour would be to get some bellmouths or these Alloy Toyz ones from AMS Parity post in FSBB?? Do a back to back dyno test and see how they fare!!!

Whatever you do, well done man... Top 10 Allrounder Z's on the forum!

I think they came by rowboat, but I might be wrong. ;)

I don't see how removing the canister is an issue it still vents. I've removed mine and so have many others.

Very illegal. EPA would have a field day on that car if that's the case. Not to mention that if you've left it venting, then you've got dangerous fuel vapours being vented to atmo which could (unlikely but possibly) ignite.

I don't care what other people may have done with the carbon canister, i'm doing the proper thing and keeping it. And i just spent a little extra time and detail to re-route the hard piping from it so it can all still work and do it's job with the IC's aswell.

    but that's just me. :)

Well I guess I'm just badass then. :p I wasn't really asking if you cared or not but more towards why it is an issue. It passed through insurance inspections just fine and they went over right over the car front bar and smic's removed.

Thanks Elie, you always have encouraging words mate. :)

and a massive thanks for the link to the AMS thread for those dumps too!!! I didn't even see that thread yet. I will definately be getting those dump pipes mate, just what i was looking for - and for a steal of a price!

That will go perfectly with the new Centre resontator (X-pipe) that i have sitting here aswell. Will get them on at the same time and will be complete then.

or do what Chrispy did, put in a smaller canister. I friend of mine took his out on his Z, gets fuel smell all the time.

    *UPDATE* Catch Can Installed

I've been getting a bit of blow-by under high boost since the turbo upgrade, which was a bit evident out the exhaust, and the occasional popping of the dip-stick. I know of a few other members running high boost have encountered similar symptoms aswell as from track work too.

So, to relieve the pressure in the crank i sought some advice from many angles and have installed a catch-can that vents to atmo - as opposed to a recirc setup.

Basically bypassing the PCV valves and using the breather hose on the exhaust cam cover that normally goes to the PCV - and extending that line from both sides all the way up to the front (nice and hidden of course) where they join into a "T" piece, then into the catch can which is nicely hidden under the nose panel, tucked right away from sight under the headlight.

Some rough piccies before the batteries went dead on the camera.
Excuse the grubby engine bay, it's all sparkly clean again now though.

This is the area i'm talking about...

Hose was chockers full of oil as expected. This contaminated oil and air is what gets pushed back into the plenum and back through the engine. This is where you can get smokey evidence out the exhaust from blow-by.

Blocked off the PCV with a rubber cap, and ran a long hose from the breather all the way up the front onder the nose panel...

    Same on the drivers' side...

still looks stock, unless you seriously know what you're looking for.

    RESULTS:
Completely cured my blow-by issues. No more smokey exhaust, no more dipstick popping. all good again :)

This method was the best, cleanest, and stealthiest way i could think of when it comes to positioning the can, and hiding extra plumbing. There are other ways of doing this operation of course, but this worked perfect for me and with very little hassle to install. So i'm going to recommend this method from my point of view. :)

    Cheers,
    Benny. :zlove:

how does the pcv cause smokey exhausts? i may have the same problem

  14. WhiteNight

    WhiteNight Littering and...

On a hard right hand turn, the oil slops to the left of the engie and gets sucked up through the pcv, into the intake and gets burned.

How does boost make it worse? Higher boost more of a Bernoulli effect on the pvc making them suck harder?

  16. Benny_C

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

hi boost can increase crank pressure due to blow-by, and hense force that extra pressurised air through those vents through the PCV back into the intake. (that's what it's function is)

...what can happen is as WhiteNight said, if you're going around a corner, not only air gets through the PCV, but also contaminated with some oil that gets "splashed" into the rear exhaust cam cover vent, and back in through the PCV and in through your engine and can show smoke out the exhaust. (call it poor design, or whatever), but that's where that can happen.

Have you upgraded the dump pipes yet Benny?

Hey Nigel, still waiting for them to arrive from Canada mate. I must have been lucky enough to get the "row-boat" couriers.

Hoping to get them on in a few weeks and post back up here my findings with the AMS dumps over the Npowers. So watch this space mate.

So with this setup does the oil in the catch can drain back into the sump?
