Benny's Blue Beast cracks 320rwkw!

Took the beast to the mechanic mate today who played with the actuators a bit and got it up to 20psi where it should be after my recent turbo upgrade. And put it on the dyno for me....

    429rwHP (320rwKW) @ 20psi...

So this dyno is only the first one, and from an initial "rough" tune that was done directly after we put the engine back in the car in only about 2 hours while hung over, during a road tune from our man 90TTZ (Karl), this is the result. And i might also add that in this tune, obviously the AFR's can be tweaked more, and also being an initial "conservative" tune, even has ignition timing maps 4-5 degrees retarded than stock maps throughout the rev range, so there's a fair bit of improvement yet to come even in the tune...

I found out that my "Trust" SMIC's actually reached their max flow and ended up loosing 3-4psi pressure. So This dyno graph is from the dyno's boost sensor connected to the "pressurised" boost line, So even when the turbos are boosting at 20psi, the intake manifold is only getting 16-17psi. So when i upgrade my SMIC's to handle this, we'll see this power graph increase a fair bit instantly.

Another thing, is that this dyno graph is run on NPower Split flange dump pipes that are UNMODIFIED! I've been told by many people that they can't handle big power, but obviously they can to some point, but i'd still like to do a back to back dyno with other larger dumps on there to confirm if they are in fact restricting boost verses say a large "Bell mouth" style...

So, end of the day, my mechanic says this thing will easily shit in 450+hp (340+kw) power when these issues are rectified down the track. Very happy with todays efforts. Simply cannot get the grin off my face right now :D

    Performance mods are as follows:

GT28RS turbo cores in stock housings (bush bearing, not ball bearing) ($1600 from Hypergear)
    Extrude Honed stock manifolds ($400)
NPower 2.5" dumps off Ebay ($150)
720cc injectors ($100 second hand, but reconditioned)
Custom tune in STOCK ECU (a stack of beer thanks to Karl ;))
    3A Racing Pod Filter ($30)
Twin 3" Kakimoto exhaust which came with the car (free)
Trust SMIC's which came with the car (free)

These are the only bolt-on performance modifications bolted to an already very healthy VG30 engine.
There's a breakdown of how cheap this power figure came about guys [TIS]

I'll still get the new dumps, intercoolers and new tune done, so i can get a final dyno figure to see exactly how well all these components work together, but just letting everybody know that i won't be running this much power out of this engine very much, as it hasn't been cracked open at all for forged internals, let alone any head flowing or cams or any of that. It's completely stock apart from the performance bolt-on mods that i've listed above. So because i love my car so much, i won't risk straining the rest of the engine with this power very often at all. :zlove:

Regarding Lag, i would estimate about 800rpm higher than completely stock turbos, so very streetable and very managable in any conditions :)

..... p.s. for some reason, i wich iCER was still around to see this thread... ;):p

    Very impressive Benny , :p

hopefully when i get my GT28's in the car with some 555 or 740 injectors i might be able to see up near that area also.. not aiming to beat it, just maybeto attach to its tail :p LOL

cant wait to see it after a full proper tune :)

Thanks a lot everybody, i mainly just wanted to post up this figure to show what some minor mods can do if applied right. Also another big thing in this that i've found is that we've finally found the boost limits to the TRUST SMIC's that a few of us on here have, and also how surprisingly well the unmodified NPower split flange 2.5" Ebay dump pipes have gone!!!

Thanks for the comments so far guys :) This is all about seeing the limits of what products a lot of us actually have on our own Zeds.

    Observation

2.5 dumps/test pipes connected to cats (size unknown) then to a 3 inch system the rest of the way?

Coz does a 4 bolt 3 inch dump/test pipe, but cost a bit.

Very interesting results (congrats) sorta ties into the thread im in the process of typing..

Yes Raheen, i'm running 3" test pipes and high flow cats that were already on the Zed before i bought the NPower 2.5" dumps. So no doubt those dumps will be restrictive a little bit, this is what i'd like to find out by doing a back-to-back dyno test between these, and some larger 3" bell mouth dumps to truely tell :)

    Why not split dumps?

Wouldnt splits flow better than the bell mouth? Have you got any potential supplier in mind for dumps that match the hypergear turbos better than the n power? So you need cats also or are they 3"?

Good results for the hypeargear turbos though.

Good stuff Benny! My guess was 40kw off :(

Hope it keeps 'putting out' for you :D :D

Yes the power results are better than i originally was expecting for these turbos. (and others were aswell i think ;))

Regarding dumps, i think i'll be getting some custom dumps made up in a bell mouth design from another mate who runs an exhaust shop that has had much experience with turbo'd car exhausts, and he has offered to make me up a custom set of bell mouth designed dumps that will be 3" S/S to suite my stock 4 bolt setup but allow for the large wheels, for a "mates rates" price. But that will probably happen just after Xmas i'd say, as i've probably blown my Xmas budget so far, lol.

I will most definately get a dyno done straight after i get these made up and tuned once again, so watch this space for further power figures. I'm extremely confident that i will easily blow the 450hp figure with some further minor mods to cater for these turbo's potential. :zlove:

    GB?

As its mates rates, probably not a GB opportunity, but everyone who gets hypergear rebuilt, high flowed turbos needs some decent 3" dumps if they are to have any hope of getting the best out of these turbos, the large hypergears are a waste of time with out them IMO.

Nice result, hope to see more power once small issues fixed. and Thank you man. You did me a huge favor :)

Also want to add. They are the current ATR25 320HP profile.

hrmmmmmmmmmmmm thats actualllllly ALOTTTTTTTTT better/higher than i anticipated :eek:

im abit confused though. just bolt on mods to accomodate the turbos and uve got a really great number. simple mods really, cooler exhaust injectors.. ur manifolds would have made a very good difference, but everything else is simple mods. so you havnt had any internal work done? any head porting etc??? just a bog stock engine with the bolt ons mentioned???

    what brand are ur injectors?

i mean alot of the guys wearing gt series garrets spending big $$$$ dont find it all that easy to get the 320++rwkw figures...

    good work benny

how did you actually measure the pressure drop in your coolers?? ye i understand you can see that you are pumping out 20psi (where did you measure this from) but your manifold is only getting 16-17psi but how did you actually bring it down to being your coolers??? have u actually measured the pressure before the coolers and after to come by this???
