hmmm. I'm assuming the other side of that piece of metal isn't accessible? it'd be too easy to just use a nut and bolt. ...how's my tool borrowing credit with you these days?
Yeah yeah I'm sure I'll have some bits and pieces floating around after the buy! Otherwise I'm sure you could weld a nut to a thin section of metal and work something out -but best option email the seller and remind them to include EVERYTHING that came with the braces!
Wait is it just tapping that existing hole or is there actually an additional component required constantly? got a pic?
The hole isn't tapped, a nut gets fed in behind it and then your bolt runs through the existing hole and threads into the nut (on the end of your wire thingo) on the other side. Hit up Magic Mike he installed a set of these recently. I am only going off what I've seen in tech writeups...
Take a look at the pics I posted before the group but and pictures in the group buy the nut is attached to a long rod . nut is fed inside the rail with this rod and allows you to screw the bolt into it ..just like Rob said
Ah nothing like common sense prevailing Martin are you reading this and do you want back in on the group buy?? I suppose you could do something with a rivnut as an alternative? Don't think there would be enough meat to tap a thread
nah **** it, I'll just tape a nut to the end of something and if I ever want to get them off (unlikely) I'll just drill the bolt out. either that or just trim the body a bit to get a spanner directly through... I'll figure it out when I'm doing it!
Just buy some of these. Extremely handy when working with thin sheet metal. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/144pc-Nu...816532732?pt=AU_Fasteners&hash=item4ab227ccfc
Keen to see pics of the Broadway installed. Was thinking about getting one of those myself, but still unsure. Also concave verses flat, what's your opinion?
I haven't had much to post about the car recently as I've been dailying it for the last month or so and have spent most of my time fixing it. Here's a quick recap of the issues I've had so far for anyone curious. Overheating This was doing my head in. After a very long time to diagnose and a few radiator swaps, air duct installs and radiator caps, the issue turned out to be my viscous fan hub. It wasn't fully engaging, so even though the rest of my cooling system was brand new, it just wasn't getting enough air. Replaced the hub ($200) and now I can't get the coolant to top 83*, despite the NA front bar and FMIC. To anyone that thinks cooling is a problem with a FMIC... it's not. Overboosting I was getting intermittent boost cut when flooring it. This turned out to simply be an incorrectly adjusted boost controller. I blame GReddy for this, because even though I've fixed it now I still have no idea how to work it. Dropped cylinder #2 This turned out to be a torn lower o-ring. Looks like it'd been installed incorrectly by the workshop that did the injector refurb. Cut out my plenum, replaced, done. Intermittent dicky idle Still working on this one. Various ideas ideas as to what this may be, I'll die before I pull out the VPC. Somewhere between vacuum leaks and a bad IACU. Just replaced 3 of my IACU hoses and they were in a pretty awful state. I'll swap out the last when I pull apart and inspect/recondition the unit. What's really interesting is that while the car is acting up it will idle perfectly while rolling (even in neutral) but as soon as it completely stops the revs just drop (and timing doubles). It'll also cold idle perfectly every time. Dropped cylinder #6 This just happened a few days ago and since I'm getting flogged with assignments for the end of semester I'm not tackling it just yet. I had a go at it just after it happened, getting off work a few hours early and cutting out the plenum in the dark with my buddy to pull out the injector, figuring it was another badly installed o-ring. Unfortunately it was not. Checked for spark and all good, so as far as I can tell it's either a locked up injector or ECU. Whichever it is I'm not that fussed as I'm about due to wind up the coilovers and drop the car back in to the garage for more building anyway. My Jecs 550cc injectors are ready to be put in and my name's down on the Nistune group buy, so that's that covered. Going to do my brake overhaul and install my fender braces at the same time. On the plus side, nearly a year of labour and the light at the end of the tunnel is starting to become visible. Finally took a good photo of my car. Got pictures of the clutch fan swap, I'll get some happy snaps of the new Broadway mirror, IACU hoses and top mouldings installed and do a picture perfect update. Also concave verses flat, what's your opinion? hey hey, some love for Japan's latest gimmick! it's HUGE! haha I got the 27cm one and it's honestly too big. Go the 24cm. Concave for sure! When you angle it correctly you can actually see out of the passenger side 1/4 window, and it looks a lot less old school than the flat version. With our short view out the back the Broadway's are unnecessarily tall unfortunately, so no matter what you'll be staring at the interior of the back. This isn't really an issue unless you have ugly friends in the back seat though. I've got the day off tomorrow, I'll get some pics. I like it. -A
happy snaps! Just a few more photos of where the car's at now. It really has come a long, long way. -A
No, thank you! It's people appreciating them that makes big build threads like this worth it. Really, every time I get a good comment it makes me want to update even more. That said, I am a nostalgic mother****er, and do enjoy reading through it from time to time.
