Guys i have been talking to Brett Dempsey about an Australian buy for his rebuilt VTC cam gears, he is keen to get something underway and I am keen to get my hands on a pair as I (predictably) have noisy intake cam gears. For those that have aftermarket cams and don't want the flat spot in your midrange that occurs with aftermarket solid gears, this is your best option.

Brett's website http://bde-performance.com/vtc.htm has heaps of info on the product. A quick summary BDE rebuilt VTC sprockets feature a piston return spring specifically engineered for the load needed to prevent camshaft over-rotation with installed valve spring pressures up to 90 lbs and permit full VTC function. Oil leaks are eliminated by replacing the o-ring and positively locating the rear cover with a dowel pin thereby preventing it from rotating.

They come in a black anodised finish as pictured below. These are all series 1 gears, so you will need to use spacers if fitting them to series 2 cams.

So it's crunch time people, I want to get this on the road ASAP.

Please note, all pricing, shipping info etc below is per pair of sprockets.

Price: RRP on these is $515USD/pair including a refundable core charge. When I see the numbers I will be able to discuss better pricing.
Freight: These ship in boxes of two pairs. Freight from the US is $50USD/box. They will need to be redistributed from Sydney, they will fit in a BP sized mailing box @ $2.50, say $2 in flow pack and tape, and you can calculate your own mailing costs for a 4kg parcel from 2077 to your postcode at www.auspost.com.au
Core Charge: The core charge of $40USD/pair will be refunded (less the cost of returning the cores to the US) if you can send your cores to me within 30 days of receiving the new sprockets.
How to order: We can go ahead with as little as two buyers, or as many as are interested. As this is being run between myself and BDE, I will need 100% of the money including freight and core charge upfront.

Note I have left prices in USD as the exchange rate will probably fluctuate between now and going ahead with payment.

OK so that's the deal, let's see who is seriously interested.

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

Unfortunate timing on behalf of my Z.
I had been told about BDE by the guy that rebuilt my motor (with h/duty valve springs), and purchased a spare pair of intake pulleys specifically to send to BDE after recovering financially from the Nationals exercise. 2 weeks ago oil started pissing out the top of the motor (cam gear!), soaked the timing and drive belts, and with Warwick looming closer decided that I had to use the spare pulleys now.

I will definitely be up for a set further down the track - the above incident has set the budget back and can't do it this time round.

    some questions...

If I understand you correctly, these are essentially a direct replacement for the stock CAM gears but better designed?? ie, no stuffing around or modifications required to fit them?

If so, then I'll put my name down for a pair.

Spot on mate, they are a bolt on replacement for your noisy/leaking factory gears

I can live with noisy, not with leaking

explain the leaking a bit for me please?

They can leak out the back where they are pressed together. It's what happened to Sim300 not long ago.

you would think that BDE would modify the series 2 intake cam gears since all new billet cams are series 2 .
And thats the new high lift that become the problem not the stock cams.

correct me if I'm wrong ..

How many series two cam gears do you think are floating around for rebuild?? And how many people using aftermarket cams are using series 2 gears as opposed to series 1 with spacers.

Of course in theory series 2 gears would be great but there aren't that many around...

Yes high lift cams are noisy, but stock gears and stock cams can still leak. See his website for best explanation.

reason for asking is that I have series 2 engine and removed the vvt because of rattle ...just contemplating on whether to grab these..

    yes....

I've had two of the stock gears leak on me in my time of owning a zed.... At the time, all I could do was swap them for another pair of second hand gears as new ones are just outrageously priced.....

Grab them and fit with cam spacers -it's what I am using. Seriously you won't regret it.

    Buyers

OK guys, time to start counting the buyers....

    1. rob260
    2. rob 260
    3. rob260 (yes I am buying three pairs, not all for me)
    4. jedi-77

anyone else want to take the plunge?

Remember they ship in two sets per box so we need to keep the buy in multiples of two.

Based on the interest expressed, there will be some savings to be had, all discussed via PM sent to those above.

Only want 1 set of gears but i have got 2 sets of stock gears. What are the chances of getting a cheaper price?

For anyone concidering buying these you can get OEM cam gears for $810 AUS. I understand this product is supposed to be a better design but the OEM ones lasted 17 years so thats good enough for me. Just some added info for everyone, not trying to deter purchasers.

That is more expensive than the BDE gears group buy price (assuming you return your cores), they will still be noisy with upgraded cams, and eventually they will leak. And the warranty is not as good.
