After i read what happend with topher i'll tell u what happend to me...

I got pulled over twice this year for no reason at all.

I was driving with my girlfriend from the movies and i knew there was a cop car next to me so why would be stupid and speed. I was 58 in a 60 zone and overtook him but i was seriously going 58 and my girlfriend saw it as well, however they followed me all the way for 20 minutes to my house and pulled me over just metres before i got home and some silvia in front of me took off and was probably going 80 in a 50 zone and they pulled me over and comes to my window and says "mate you were going 70 in a 60 zone" i was really calm and polite and said no i was going 58 in a 60 zone and i was surprised why you were driving around 50 in a 60 zone and he started arguing and threatening to take my licence of me and my girlfriend even yelled at him and said "no he was not going 70" and the cop actually told her to "shut up" and we were like woho what's the matter we didn't do anything and than they started lecturing us about rules as if we didn't know them and than they started accusing me of following other cars to close and i really didn't follow anybody as the road was empty and i was behind a car at the traffic lights and i didn't follow close at all and than he started accusing me of hooning down the street and i was going slow under the speed limit. Than he started doing his routine check and on my licence comes back and says to me do u think we're pulling u coz of your car and i just said seriously i don't know, do you and he just threw the licence at me and said "drive"..... How rude was that...

Anyway.... part 2 happened sunday morning 5am with nobody around anywhere. I came to pick up my friend from his house which is on a main road with no stop signs anywhere and no cars anywhere coz it was 5am. He was waiting for me outside already so he jumped in my car and we're driving and there was a cop car on the other side of the street. We continued driving seriously this time 55 in a 60 zone for 5 minutes and the cop car caught up to my got his lights on pulls me over... A girl comes out and ask me "do you know what speedzone this is" I said "yes It's 60" and she said "how fast were you going" and i said "i was going 55" and the other cop said "no mate you were going 80 we were following you" and i said "No way, i was going 55 and you were going 80 that's why you caught up with me because you were going faster than me by 20-25kmh it's simple" and he got angry and said "don't talk to me you smartass" and the other cop starts breathalizing me and i of course had 0.00!!! NOTHING and than they went to the car reading a book??? and after 30 minutes of waiting she gave me a ticket... A TICKET for picking up my friend from the side of the street and it only took 3 seconds and apparantly i was a hazzard to traffic... whaaaaaaaa??? i just looked at her and smiled... honestly i just smiled at her and said "really" and she said yeah and if u say something else you'll get in more trouble so i just stayed calm and waited to just get out of there.... Ticket to pay $45 for nothing and what a crazy experience so far this year

Eastern Eye !!! MOST WANTED !!!

Actually - if you think that cops are pulling you about going over the speed limit - u can request to see the radar gun with the actual recorded speed - majority of police who actually book people for speeding - show you the radar.

Well this is in NSW, but not too sure bout other states but i would think so.

Thought that might come in handy for next time

I gotta say that all the cop bashing on this forum is getting a bit old. I mean, I sympathise with everyone's stories and stuff, but this is a bit pointless.

At least topher had a real reason to make a complaint, this is just the usual crying because you got pulled over and the cop didn't give you a pleasant smile and wave goodbye.

    Someone has to

    Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Who will watch guard the guards? As long as they are respectful stories, people have every right to share their experiences. It's good for police, if they monitor this forum, to know that people won't take crap lying down. Not saying don't respect them or anything, but make sure the corrupt ones out there are aware their day in the sun won't last forever.

    Maybe your speedo's out? :D

I find the best Policy is Speak when Spoken to. When they ask you how fast you are going, Tell them in as few syllables as possible :)

Also, don't mouth off, that will only get you into more trouble

    Just my thoughts..

Sat Nav systems that holds a record

of when, where and how fast, is always handy.
I have never been caught speeding in the Zed (touches wood), but if I thought I was being coerced into admitting to speeding where I wasn't, or intimidated into believing I was speeding where I wasn't, that shit doesn;t fly with me.
I would offer Sat nav GPS tracks, Nissan Datascan log files, and Satellite tracking info via the car finder system I have installed. Three independent systems in one car, I don't think they have a chance in court (as long as I wasn't speeding).

Oh, BTW, one day I was pulled over and told I ran a red light, I insisted absolutely that it was yellow, and guess what, he let it go (and it was yellow BTW).

For those who are sick of reading "bad boy police threads", if people want to vent about their experiences with the police, then let them do so, why censor them, it is a public forum. If you disagree, then post your thoughts, or if you agree post your thoughts. We do also have threads showing police niceties and good behaviour, perhaps some more of those stories could be posted up.

muahaha, the incidents of " police niceties and good behaviour" are, in the proverbial aussie slang, rare as hens teeth, in my experience, then again, throughout the years my fuse has been pretty short with authority figures, in the end i learned just to shut up and "cop" it, as it were, society would not function cohesively without police but i firmly believe that the police need to be policed, they are public servants after all and not a law unto themselves, well that's how it is supposed to be at least

what pex zed, people can express there experiences all they like, i work at maccas and im not gunna get up people who bitch bout bad maccas food.

hey guys, weve said it many times before but once a cop starts acting like a dick, you can always say "i have to inform you that this conversation is being recorded in both audio and video" and then ask them for their badge number, both of which is within your law and your rights.

but yer i would have asked for the speed gun rating, and even if that was high i would have challenged it, those things are as reliable as hyundais.

man you know the boys in blue came around on boxing day to my mates house, because of a NOISE COMAPLAINT!!!! boxing day was like xmas for me and all my mates.... but seriously....how many houses arnt makin noise on boxing day? how would you feel having the police comin over n abusing you on xmas/boxing down ey... one was extremely good and professional the other was a total dick.

Agreed. Probably best to get your speedo checked out. Have you got different size rims on than stock? If you have, and the speedo wasnt recalibrated, then chances are that the speedo is giving a false reading, leading you to belive that you are going under the limit when you were in fact over the limit.

If not than just an asshole traffic inspector.

    Mmm

I've met great cops and f*ckwit cops. Unfortunately its the f*ckwit cops that you always remember. Its the young junior cops that are the ones that need to get over their self importance and realise that they are serving the community.

But yeah am i really going to write up a post about the nice policeman who let me off on numerous occasions when i was a stupid P plater? Or am i going to write up a thread about times i've been harassed.

It definately appears though that the police are on edge lately, and obviously sick of anti police behaviour that is being pushed by the media. I know i've definately felt a slight hostility lately, and although i don't believe in 6th sense sh*t, i have a very acute sense to peoples body language. Even my girlfriend said the other day, geeze thats the 5th cop thats given you a filthy look this fortnight, while being a good law obiding citizen and driving calmly.

I have always believed though, speak to every policeman, or anyone for that matter, as if they are a normal person who you respect ...

(even if they are a right c*nt - please note that sometimes these sorts of people in general are often very handy to meet, if you have someone who is full of their own ego it makes them very easy to manipulate them -not necessarily in a negative sense - by playing to that ego)

... and you won't have any trouble, whether that would have done anything at all for Topher is a different story though .

In the case of last Thursday night, i was dropping BigBaz off at a pub around 10:30pm when a policeman drove past and told me to turn off my fog lights, i said ok, turned them off, leaving them slightly dull (Jap spec) in drive mode. He then pulled me over with very hostile body language tellign me that he told me to turn them off. I told him that i had, and then proceeded to tell him how this car works and that they turn on because the drive lights are so shithouse etc etc and gave him a little light show, he then breath tested me and asked what my address was etc etc. But the reason i'm telling this story was that throughout the encounter i could tell he was just waiting to pounce on any slight indication of any dis-respespect or hostility.

Just be careful, there are alot of people on edge at the moment, and you can choose whether to create an issue or not (not saying that Topher could have done anything different, buy good advise all the same).

So yeah all i know is that i won't be giving any undercover cop cars sitting on my arse my usual salute and playing dumb for a little while, because at the moment i think its just asking for more trouble than what its worth.

Ok, Ive read these posts re fines and geting hassled...

Firstly my sister is a cop in Tamworth...

    1. Police do not have to show you the radar gun in NSW, for that matter they do not even need to catch you with a radar gun, there is a method that is used based on time over distance to calculate an estimated speed... If they believe that you are speeding you can be fined... More likely for Dangerous Driving.

    2. Similar for drink driving, you dont necessarily have to be over the limit... There is a charge of "driving under the influence". So even if you are under the limit you can be fined for driving under the influence, if something registers...

    3. If you want to dispute a fine all you need do is write a letter to the Infringment Processing Bureau now part of the State Debt Recovery Office SDRO, (NSW Only) explaining the situation and the events surrounding the fine and any mittigating circumstance. DO NOT bag the copper... PS Be realy nice and appoligetic... You may get the fine cancelled..

    4. Behave yourself, Be NICE and forego all the grief... Nothing pee's of a copper, more than someone being realy nice, then at least if they fine you they may feel realy bad later, if they have a conscience..

Never admit anything, I they say you were speeding, reply like " I didnt know I was", "I thought I was below the limit". etc... But be nice, dont be smart.. and remeber they are people too, and have bad days like the rest of us, but have the opportunity to take it out on some poor sod who doesnt deserve it..

I havent been fined in about 10 years.. Be nice to the police and they will leave you alone..

    what a crock sh*t

firstly,if you are pulled over by a radar gun,the cop will show you the reading if you request it as you are quite within your rights to check the radar gun has been calibrated and that test is within the expiry date

secondly ,is is quite legal to drive under the influence as long as you are not over the legal limit ,or why is there any legal limit at all ??
if this is what your sister has told u,i fear for all road users in NSW:eek:
