    Good project!

Baz sounds a great idea. I wonder which are the expensive (or hard to get) Nissan parts where the savings are to be made.

Do you also plan to list suppliers (like Courtesy, etc). Or is this going past the spirit of local Aussie list businesses

You have been called many things baz but a 'dogsbody' is news....

This indeed will be a valuable resource to add in the technical section.

So when we submit items of interest, do we address you as baz, the scribe or Sir?

Baz, as K-Zed was responsible for the A-Z indexing of the

tech section, it's only right that he has a say into the process too!

AWSOME ideas guys...im sure this will help many many people out...including me

will love to see this develope...

p.s i think a good idea would be to list the price of the oem product if they know it and how much they sourced the alternative product for and from where...

alternative section is to save money right...so i think price notes would be a big help ...

    :thumbsup::thumbsup:

    Re: tech

The price of OEM parts will not be critical submissions, alternative parts are only sourced in the first place because they are cheaper or the OEM is no longer available.

Pricing ... Not required I feel

I agree a list of alternates is GREAT....(Cheers and beers for the idea)

I think including pricing makes it too difficult for this type of list...

It is not that hard to "Let the fingers do the walking" whether that be search the net or the yellow pages.:p

I believe you can only ask people to do a certain amount of the foot work for you.

Of course I am not saying do not supply price and place (especially if it is WAY cheaper than elsewhere:cool: ) .... but if the alternate is from GMH/Ford Australia or the like, if you need a part give them a call to find out the price (as the price varies from store to store, state to state depending on stock and turnover of item)

Would hate the situation where someone looks at the prices listed and orders from other than Nissan and the price ends up the same or more. (Also be aware that Aust manufacturer (automotive) only make spares to last 10 years after a model ceases production, so if the alternate is from a 1977 HX Holden the price will go up as Stock gets lower and lower)

JOHN as a starter, we would like to identify any available source

of alternative parts .. make this information available/accessible to forum members ..who, in turn, can then decide what their best avenue might be ....

The clutch fan from a 2001 Pathfinder is identical

I sourced mine from a wrecker. I'm sure it would be the same price as a Z fan if bought new but I got mine in excellent condition with no cracks etc for $90 as opposed to $300+ for new OEM.

Sorry Baz don't have part numbers etc and also don't know if one from say a 2004/5 Pathfinder is still the same but at least it gives an alternative source.

    ah there it is!

couldn't find this message cos it got all sticky..

I've another to add to the top radiator hose alternatives.

I actually tried one that was listed, I think it was the Falcon one and it didn't quite fit right, I ended up taking my OEM one to Supercheap to find a match and grabbed a big mother hose for $16, the Grommett GR232. Here's how it fits:

It does 'touch' the intake which isn't ideal but then the passenger side intake seems just as hot so probably not a big deal.

The windscreen washer check valve, I haven't been down to where I got it yet to get a part number but here's some pics:

    OEM:

    Generic: (not so chunky!)

I'm also quite sure there's a generic coolant temp sensor we can use, I actually bought one for $30 on advice from the retailer that they would be the same.. I installed it and it seemed fine but couldn't determine it was identical, I found the resistance was similar when cold and warm but I couldn't be sure so switched it out.. I'll test it some more when I can.

    Re: alternative parts........here's one...

The two short bypass hoses fitted to the top radiator
pipe at the front of the motor.
    I replaced these with,
Goodyear Hi-Miler Str Rad Hose (1.25inch ID)
    P/N 57220 FLEXTEN SAE 20R1 D1.
This is a heavy duty hose manufactured in Canada
and is only available in 900mm lengths and priced
at about $80.00 if you go to Goodyear for it.

However thats enough to do 5 or 6 cars.
    If you can't get a group buy together try these guys;
    N.C.P.S Industrial
    U2, 1445 Main Nth Rd,
    Para Hills West SA
    Ph (08) 82852344.

    They supplied mine for $44.00:thumbsup:

    cheers, Andy.

    Alternate Air Con Receiver/dryer

For the J Spec the Nissan Patrol.

I went to repco and the 300ZX receiver/dryer was $120+ but is for an Aus spec Z it has the same size thread for inlet and outlet side.

we went through the receiver/dryer book and found the Patrol had the different sizes required in the J Spec.
This item is fractionally shorter in size but was assured it would make no difference.
    Price $37

EDIT: This was for my TT not sure if NA's are the same but I assume they would be.
