Actually im not to stressed now. I did have a few moments of thinking cut my losses and strip it. But I'll just fix it after I buy a house later in the year.

Seriously thinking about a V8 conversion now...

Small update. I moved into a house with my brother and we have a triple car garage so plently of room to work on the zed at the moment.

I Was very close to stripping and selling out of the Zed game but alas I have taken a bit of a sideways step and bought Chrispy's stock motor that was apparently rebuilt at some stage.

So over the last couple of weeks I have pulled the motor and swapped everything onto the stock motor and re-installed the new motor. It's running really good have put a hundred kays on it so far and no wierd noises apart from the jwt cam rattle.

So to sum up the motor is stock with- stock manifolds (steering shaft doesn't rub on ams dump pipe now), GT28rs turbo's, jwt r4+ cams & heavy duty valve springs, bde intake cam gears, z1 adjustable exhaust gears, sz intake pipes, ams 2.5 boost pipe kit, Z1 throttles, 750cc injectors, ati balancer, haltech platinum ecu running map sensor and dual intake... that's the main stuff.

I have some 3" exhaust parts on the way so I can hopefully get this thing up and running properly real soon. I will keep the boost to a minimum which is about 18psi with the ams dump pipes, I will also keep the RPM's in check ~7000 last thing I need is another spun bearing.

I'll get back to the forged motor after I buy a house.

oh and I had the Patrol hooked up to the zed while i cranked it over for a bit to get oil circulating, it fried the Patrols alternator...I hate cars.

Glad to hear the motor is running well for you too :) Don't forget the fancy ported heads ;)

Not sure what the deal is but this motor goes way better than the built motor only real difference is heads and stock vs ams manifolds. Can't wait to get it on the dyno, it totally fries second gear when it comes on boost now. Sounds insane with the cams :)

Good to hear mate. This has been a long time coming. I remember the days when I would drive on the road your house was on in ormiston and see your garage door open and you working on it. That was when I owned my first zed.

oh wow really that's where I lived when I first got the zed and the first motor died. I have since moved about 6 times and onto the 4th motor. The motor has been out 5 times now due to various reasons.

Motor 1 - lost compression after taking it to QR
Motor 2 - went really good, had to pull it to swap turbo's after they started smoking and eventually sold it to make way for..
Motor 3 - rebuilt motor 1 with forged internals - spun bearing leading me to..
Motor 4 - going great so far.

My friends and family think i'm mad.

Dual 3" exhaust from the cats back installed today, mandrel bent, mild steel, with x pipe and 3" resonators. It's a little droney at certain RPM's but acceptable for a weekend driver. There is nothing holding it back for a good dyno session now.

Looks the same as the old one. But here is a pic anyway.

Going to have to do something about my rusty hatch and bubbly wing next.

Booked in for tune and cam gear adjustment next week :) hopefully it doesn't pop on the dyno.

Pretty happy with this power level on a stock bottom end.
Time to start fixing the forged motor again but i'm in no rush, I'm going to enjoy having a running zed for a while.

Installed a z1 steel drive shaft on the weekend. Should of done it ages ago car drives a lot smoother.

I thought my clunking sound when you get on and off the throttle was due to the solid subframe mounts. My old uni's were notchy but didn't have any free play, centre bearing was new and it never had any vibration issues.

My axle tramp/wheel hop seems to have greatly reduced to almost gone. Will see how it goes on a wet road that's where it was bad with slight wheel spin.

My atmo BOV's have been annoying me for awhile now because they are so loud. So I got hold of the BDE goose honk killer kit and put the stock recircs back in. Much better now when your just driving around normal, still quite loud if you bury the right foot though.

They were bit of a pain to fit due to my dual intake setup. I ended up chopping the right angle part off the bottom of the recirc valves so they pushed on like my old BOV's and the intake hose just happened to line up.

I didn't worry about making a perfect cut as you can tell :)

Awesome pics, thank you! I am looking to pick up that BDE kit soon too.

Don't s'pose you're able to record the sound they make?

I'll try and get a sound recording next time I take it out, but it sounds good.

Cool. Looks like the kit would be much better off with a 90* bent barb fitting?

    edit: something like this

90* fitting would of been better but the straight fittings are not in the way of anything.

Awesome. So how do the alloy caps stay on? Do you weld them or press fit? I don't like my bov either

It's an interference fit. Run a bead of silicone around the edge then belt them down with a rubber hammer.

Sold everything and chopped it up.

    The End.
