I just bought the car... so I guess thats not an option. I can take the dash out at a later date after I get it blue slipped so I'll just work on the headlights for now.

What usually breaks on the actuators? Is it usually the motors that burn out or the linkages gum up with dust/old grease or part of the linkage breaks and a spring boings out into oblivion.

So lets see..... is dash out the new engine out?????. I would also check the lighting stalk. they can fail and when they do you can end up with headlight issues. when the lowbeam fuse (I think) goes so does some of the interior lighting like your dash lights. My 1990 import has no diming or other flash functions on the interior lights. But if this is like any other japanese car then options are aplenty and anything could go.

Well, I've managed to work out why the ignition switch wasn't getting power. The main wire that supplies the main fuses wasn't connected to the big fat wire properly. I took it all apart, and it started working all of a sudden. I need a big soldering iron if it decides to disconnect again.

As for the head lights, this is becoming abit of a mystery. After bypassing both the L headlight and dimmer relays, the low beams still don't work... what makes it more confusing is that I don't hear the main relays kick over when I put the low beams on... so maybe I have two problems? I don't understand why they still don't light up when I bypass the relays.

As for the glove box light, it turned out to be a poor connection inside the glove box switch. I just love it how things like that can send you on a wild goose chase. So I'll get some contact cleaner tomorrow maybe and get that fixed.

The only problem stopping me from getting past rego is the damn head lights. If there is one of those dimmer options, how would I find if mine has that feature?

Well, this is getting stranger by the minute :p

I think I may have had 2 problems on the low beam circuit. I tried connecting direct DC power to the globes but they didn't work. So I gave them a few hard taps with voltage connected... and now the globes work fine :/ Now when I over ride the dimmer relay, I am able to get the low beams to work when I have the high beam switch connected... so now it seems to me that my problem is with the low beam switch that activates the relay? What do you guys think?

Also, I need to find a front left indicator lense and a front right indicator mounting bracket (plastic). What would be the best way to find them without any transport? Would anyone in western sydney be able to help please?

I think I might have this sorted... The dimmer switch seemed to have a cold solder joint. I re connected it and its now working fine :) happy days!

So the only other issue I have to work out now is the mixing motors for the airconditioning. I guess it would make my life alot easier if somone knew who would have one of those computer tools to check the air con? Would any nissan dealer have one or are they all too old now?

Ok, I'll look into that later.

For now, I am going to clean out all of the dirt under the front guards and any other nook and cranny I can find.

The one thing that has me stumped is: ow to I clean under the targa top without getting the interior wet? I went over it with a vacuum and picked up huge chucks of dirt, however there seems to be a layer of dirt that doesn't vacuum up. Is there a prefered method for this?

What do you mean? Take the targa roof off ;) or do you mean in the channels? Just a rag to start with, take the wind deflectors out will make it easier, even take the centre divider out, which requires taking the roof interior out too :/

Try vacuum as well and suck the bulk out first. Also make sure the drain holes arnt blocked, get a long piece of wire. They are located at the top of the A pillars

I have narrowed down my ac issues abit.

I am guessing the drivers door vent is stuck closed. To get to that, is that a dash out job? Where abouts is it located? I'll be messing with the audio tomorrow and I have the glovebox out too... so when in rome :p

I plan to take a look at it tomorrow. Can the vent be opened manually?
