A few electrical issues...

    Hi guys.

So the things that do not work:
    glove box light
    clock
front headlights. (high beem works fine)

I have pulled out the glovebox light and tested it on a battery, and it works fine. There was a problem with this loom. There was no power to the ignition barrel, so the previous owner made a new line directly from the battery to the ignition barrel.

The radio has been pulled and there are wires everywhere. I've had trouble finding the correct electrical schematic diagram so I can start doing some fault finding... can anyone help with this? Thanks.

Lol sounds real legit making his own power to the barrel :/

Um there is a little button for the glove box door (like in your main door jams) that when you open the door the button slides out and makes a connection, when the door closes it pushes the button in disconnecting the connection, make sure it's clean and making a connection or if it's pushing in and out.

Your clock is a very common issue, bit of a fault in the board, just buy a new one if it bugs you.... See the for sale page

I also forgot to mention that the air conditioning fan doesn't seem to work. Only air seems to come out of the windshield vent, but all the other vents do not work. Does anyone know where the motor is located on this?

I guess the easiest way is to give all these parts power, but I guess that doesn't solve the cause of the problem. I'll have to dive into my toolbox to find my multimeter.

What is the comon problem with the clocks that cause this? I haven't finished reading through the schematics yet though.

Also there is a strange black box with a printed circuit board located just under the steering wheel. There has been a yellow wire spliced and a T joint was made... however this wire doesn't go anywhere... does anyone know what this might be for?

Black box is unknown, maybe it records your voice like a real black box :p

Check all your fuses tho too man.

And I believe there is only one fan that blows air I'm general, so I imagine that something's not operating your vents... Has it got climate control?

Also the clock is a through out, I believe it the capacitors in them loose their power holding abilities, it only 35 bucks for a new one

It has climate control... I've fiddled with the vents, and none bar the vent under the windshield... no mater what buttons I press on the climate control, no air comes out... so if the fan is operational, is there a servo or stepping motor that opens/closes a flap inside the ducting?

As for this little black box, I'm guessing that would be for cruise control, however, that system works.

I've checked all the fuses... I'm now currently checking the main fuses (right hand close to the firewall in the engine bay) however they are tough to get out... can you tell me how to get them out?

The cruise control is in the engine bay on the drivers side. Trace your throttle cables and you will find! So yeah not sure about that box :/

Yeah I'm not too sure about what butterfly valves there are for the air. Some are electrically controlled, some cars are cable, and others are pneumatic.

There are fuses on your drivers side foot well too ;)

I checked all of the fuses on the kick panel as well. I haven't checked anything yet with my multimeter as its gotten dark now. I'll have to do it tomorrow morning.

As for the fan, I guess I'll have to check the service manual. Is there a complete service manual that I can download? If there is a colour version, that would be awesome :)

The yellow wire is the one I'm interested in.

Why is one of the fuses linked with a bit of wire ?? Haha u checked the fuses on the other side too? Is the last pick under your steering?

I'm hoping that bit of wire is where my problem is... I'm hoping this is not what 'caused' the problem. I've checked the fuses in the relay box too. And yes, that last pic is under the steering. On my steering wheel, I only have the horn and cruise control. If a car alarm was to go off, would grounding the horn wire stop the horn from working?

Or maybe this would have to do with an airbag? This has an airbag right?

Can't see why not lol.... I actually have never looked under the panel under the steering wheel so I'm not sure what is under there....can anyone else assist?

    Adz_79 I do it in a Zed

Afaik that is the hicas sensor under the steering. And that wire in the fuse is normal. It's a fusible link for when you connect pos to neg and vice versa on the battery. Stops your electrical system from being fried

Bobbs ... the Factory Service Manual is on the Forum Tech Stuff CD ..along with a heap of other good Zed stuff .....

you can purchase the CD via Pexzed's Forum online shop for around $15.00 .. a Forum fund raiser and a great buy.

I was looking through the manual and it looks like the Canadian model has a daytime light control unit. I have a Japanese model. How do I know if my model has this funtion? Thanks. If my dimmer relay was stuck, could that cause my normal headlights not work? Otherwise it would just be both globes that have blown right? Though I am having trouble understanding the words used. Is the dimmer circuit the high beam? I was looking at EL-28 and there is a high beam light that is connected to the main light (left). This doesn't make any sense :/

As for the air conditioning fan problem, it would be alot easier if I had the "CONSULT" tool. does anyone know who might have one in western sydney?

aircon isnt blowing in different places because the actuators on the heater box are rooted..

the actuators move to direct air to different places and their seized/dead

its a big black box on top of your heater core.. which is right in the middle of your dash..

to replace the heater core is usually a dash out job.
