it isnt that hard to just turn a key...

personally i prefer remote start. you an start your car while still finishing your morning coffee and it is warm by the time you get in it - all without leaving your house.

now thats a time saver

I would'nt say its rice unless you classify Ferrari's as rice.

But i do agree with kirst that remote start is a more (usefull) feature as you might aswell turn a key not push a button. (My opinion)

Completely unrelated but damn that engine is nice and responsive! Mine is a turtle - a very slow, laggy turtle - in comparison... :(

I would have only have a push button start if it was like the new tech where you don't have to put a key in, just have it in your pocket - otherwise whats the point; put the key in, turn it, then go to the effort of removing your hand from the key and having to actually push another object! ZOMG so much effort, just keep turning the key in the first place :p

Remote start would be handy though~

Seeing 2 dogs stuck together at the rear like that makes me want to grab a bucket of water & throw it on them.
    Yipe, yipe, yipe, yipe etc.

On a positive note, nice exhaust cackle from the Z

    And another thing....

That car has more telemetry in it than the Apollo moon landers had.
They made it to the moon & back. That Z should be able to make it to Mars at least.
There's probably a joke about your anus here somewhere but I'm too apathetic to
    persist with it.

    rockchucker WTF???

    Not a huge fan.

When I first got my Z in 2001 the Starter Relay went out. I didn't know anything about Z's so I bypassed it and put in a push button switch. It worked but it was ghetto. No real reason for it. Makes starting your car a 2 step process rather than a "turn the key".

Very true about easy accesss for thieves...pop that switch out and you have very quick access to the Start Leads.

the one in the vid no point really. you still have to turn the ignition on with the key, then press that button... one more turn and the car is on... duno if there are ones out there where u dont have to put the key in first then press the button ???

remote start is kool though ;)

Something on your keyring as a proximity sensor so you dont even have to put the key in, just press a button and go would be cool.

As an option on a car alarm maybe.

Not something I am rushing out to do though.

Interesting point in there FAQ, you need to use a key to unlock steering column any way, sure you could disable it.

If it didn't work like the Mercedes one with a keyring RFID proximity sensor of a sort, ie you cant just get in the car and press a button completely keyless its a bit of wank for sure.

Their FAQ says that there is nothing like that available after market and unlikely to be.

    mrkarter77 No Really, They do!!!

All it looks like is he has bypassed the start part of the igntion,

if you look he allready had the key to on, the radio an dash lights are on

Why couldn't you just use a few relays?

    First relay = Accessories
    2nd relay = On
    3rd relay = Start

Have the start sequence stepped through by a PIC. SIMPLE code. Cheap relays. The hard bit would be finding where to put the start switch. Of course you would use a proximity card reader and card to move from off to Accesories, and the step from there to start would be done by the PIC. That way you just put the card reader in the dash somewhere, and the fob in your pocket.

You could even put the reader in the drivers side door, and swipe the card over the door lock to let you in, and turn the car to acessories.

    Hmmm, sounds very simple.

    You would think so.

Steering column lock is the first hurdle, sure you could disable it but that is not really desirable.

Maybe you could mount an actuator on the key that turns when you press a button with an RFID tag in range.

Two cycles of the drivers door handle with RFID in range (in your pocket) door unlocks, jump in and press a button and off you go.

Probably would be integrated into an alarm system to override the fact that you probably have the key in the ignition with some sort of actuator mounted on it.

Well they do have proximity tech for alarms - I was offered it but didn't see the point. Just unlocks and locks the car when you step within and out of 5m from the car or something.

Same thing could be applied to a push button circuit, so that it only works when the keyring is in range.

    Smart Ghetto.
