Well i've finally got her on the road, very happy :)

Just a few niggles.. I followed the instructions to the word and also installed the 'divider' piece of metal which sits between the top of the FMIC and the Air filters. I have a PZP 56mm radiator, but when driving (tonight for about 15 mins) temps went up to 90c!!! (via nissan datascan) yes, the coolant system is properly topped up... on ramps... no coolant leaks, timing perfect etc etc.

I have not installed an 'under front bar' shroud. Is this required? I didn't have any issues with cooling with my stock radiator before... so it can't be the fan/vicous coupling etc.

I am concerned with the angle that these FMIC's sit at, not too good for airflow the the radiator me thinks.

What are other peoples experiences with this type of FMIC?

    Cheers.

    Hmm,

I haven't noticed any higher temps with mine, but having said that, i'm going off stock temp gauge.

I also do not run the under front bar shroud.

I was reading an article in zoom or HPI the other day saying that during testing on intercooler angles they discovered that even laying the intercooler right over well past 45 degrees still gave almost as much airflow as if it was vertical.
Having said that though, in my opinion if you don't have the front under panel, and your intercoolers are tilted forward at the top like I think the ones you are talking about are, then I would say that even though airflow through the intercoolers technically shouldn't be an issue, without that panel the majority of air is more likely to just be diverted down and under the car.

Damn that was a long sentence and I hope it is understandable. :)

That radiator is super thick, throw an FMIC in front of it and I bet you are getting bugger all air flow through the radiator at normal driving speeds. Radiators that thick only become effective at big speeds (testing koyo against 40mm twinpass)...

Do you have a vented headlight grill? This will help with more air through radiator. What about air guide? FMIC undertray? All of these things will help send more air through radiator core.

this will help stop the air from escaping under the car/radiator. if you use the shield it will help guide the air tot he rad

I have an fmic undertray and a 56mm koyo. Runs at 83 deg in all conditions. Only way I can get the temp to rise is to use the air con in slow moving traffic.

I was getting the same temps ( checked with datascan ) with the stock radiator.

I do have a modified bomex front bar though. Lots of air flow compared to stock.

Bit unusual to have the temp get that high at night.

I've had mine on for 12 months or so now - Koyo 53mm, UAS bar, no undertray, haven't had any probs even on the hot days since I put the Koyo in, runs at 81-83, will increase a bit on a hot day, aircon on and low speed (maybe peak 89?)

Could be the stock front bar isn't allowing enough air thru?

Zed is buggered mate - I think you'll have to sell it... Cheap too cause of it's 'overheating' issues :p

Have you flushed your coolant system in a while, most people think airflow and over think the problem. You should consider your thermostat could be sticking (how long has it been since it has checked) a blockage in your hoses, water chambers, radiator or leaking water pipes/seals/cap all leading to low pressure high temp running or even a broken water temp sensor all these could be your problem before you consider airflow.

    * Coolant system is perfectly as-new clean

    * Thermostat is new and was fine before FMIC/56mm rad install

    * A Z4L Plenum pull has been done before FMIC/rad install

I might put on the stock radiator cap and try it, i'm using the one that came with the new 56mm radiator.

Yeh rob i haven't got a vented nose... i might pull it off and see if it helps the temps.

The other strange thing i have noticed is when idling with the bonnet down(AC off), the temps slowly rise from 80c -85c+ ish.

With the bonnet up, temps drop back down to a solid 80c..

Good point, have u checked your belt tightness, either too tight or loose will cause problems as well as water pump may have gone by the by.

A simple pressure test should rule out any pressure related leaks or blocks before trying simply changing the cap or hoses etc.
consult the manual for nominal pressure. ps test at the radiator cap.

Its a new radiator, new cap.

There is an issue with this car that i remember before all the work started.

The heater will not switch on... On conzult a door sensor is saying -15c! Not sure if this is related to the heater not working... I suspect i have an air lock in the heater water circuit and i suspect to remedy this i will have to :-

    (i) Keep topping up every now and then till the air lock is out.

(I did this when i first got the car as the temps did climb until it was sorted)

(ii) Perform a heater core bypass.

(iii) Replace the sensor!!! (I really don't want to rip the dash out right now :( )

I have this IC , I didn't install the metal divider, and used my k+n pod instead of the supplied deal, I have the standard rad and use an underdrive pulley, and my trans cooler is behind the IC (not ideal) .It has been installed for over twelve months now. To date no overheating problems (std guage) and no dumping of water .
That said it's not my only car ,so daily driven up a mountain in 40+ deg heat may change things?

I would be very interested to see if refitting your standard radiator makes a difference...
