sorry for been scared like a little girl!

Last dyno run cost me 12k+ rebuild (but got it on the special mates rates :)
Worst of all kept my Z off the road for 11 months due to unforseen circumstances.

And i wasnt bagging the place. I dont know em or ever seen em to bag. Was just asking! ;(

If you guys say its all good, ill come, add me to the list. But i will be one of the last dyno runners.

Now to get the tick of approval and ready for some nice figures... ;)

as long as i am not away, may be going on holidays around that time (uni break) as for my car well i will make sure i have one to put on the dyno, may not be the zed as i am looking at changing, but as i see from the first post the dyno @ RE is 4wd so it wont matter what my car is ;) .

Having lost a couple of expensive motors to so called "expert dyno opperators", I wont put my car up for a thrashing by someone else, after all I'm more than capable of handing out a hard drive to my own gear:D

how did your motors blow? surely it would have been a fault with your engines or tuning???

at the dyno day your engine went because a vac hose came off and the boost went incredibly high and kaboom went the engine. had nothing to do with the dyno....it does piss me off however that they didnt monitor boost when they could have and stopped when saw the boost increase highhh....:bash: :bash: :bash:

in addition to this guys a dyno "group" run is not just a sweet put it on and see what it does. with large numbers of people wanting to have a dyno run the operators try to get everyone on and off as fast as possible. it is dangerous to have a dyno run if your car is not running nicely and all hoses etc are secured properly. if you havnt gone over your engine before a dyno tune then i wouldnt do it just for bragging rights. after all its just a number...

The RE customs dyno does have boost and AFR sensors so they can monitor all that stuff, as you'd expect. Also, since our numbers will be roughly 20-25 people then they won't be rushing to get us on and off the dyno. At the SAU day they were rushing, about 7-10 minutes from roll on, strap down, test run, power runs, unstrap and roll off. Also I should mention that this is an above ground dyno so your car is reversed up a ramp. It's not a steep incline (my car made it up fine without scraping the front bar) but if your car is super low *looks at mikez32* you'll need to lift up the front.
Chad is right though, make sure your car is running nice and everything is up to spec before the dyno day. Your car is put up against a large load, much more than you'll experience on the streets. So you don't want to find out your fuel pump is dying during a power run. Have a read of Ash's Z 6 P's: Proper Preparation prevents piss poor performance.I'm leaning towards holding the dyno day late July or August. Gives everyone plenty of time to get their car's ready, but we still need another 10 or so people who want to run their cars on the dyno.

For starters, neither engines ran a puter ...... old school motors with carbies ;)
They were also engine dynoed not "in car" runs.

One was "accidently over reved" resulting luckly in only broken rings but the time and expense to repair it wasnt worth the so called dyno run. This engine never 'produced' the power it had prior to the dyno run for some unknown reason.

The other motor turned into an oil eater shortly after a dyno run, in its case I belive it wasnt up to its operating temp when the throttle was opened up. This engine was run once a day for 3 days...
day 1 it showed 850HP..... no changes made.
day 2 and it had dropped to 815HP, again without a change
    day 3 saw 710HP !!!!
Yet not a single thing was altered on either the motor of dyno.... how then are such figures produced ????

When it was pulled down the cylinders had swelled/ bulged near the top resulting in a new set of liners having to be fitted......

    Couple of hundred bucks for a re-lined cylinder... X 8 =

Unfortunately not all dyno operators actually LISTEN to the owners requests, they seem to know better than the car / engine owners do.
At the last trip to a dyno day I heard one guy specifically ask for his engine NOT to be reved past 4500RPM, I was just a spectator and even I ( deaf old fart that I am ) heard him...... the first run showed 5800RPM !

There are profesional operators and there are ..... ppl that own a dyno
In the mean time I'm happy to watch and wait for a 'profesional operator' to shine through the crowd of wannabe's

And here's some tips from another site.....

BEFORE DYNO TUNING YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD CHECK THE FOLLOWING

    SPARK PLUGS

Platinum plugs last 100,000 Km's with normal use. Standard copper plugs last 20,000 Km's. If your car is modified or raced then the life of your plugs will be significantly reduced. If in doubt, replace the plugs as cars often miss and breakdown on the dyno when they have worn and or cheap plugs fitted. Old spark plugs can also cause added strain on the ignition system and cause expensive coils to fail by arching out.

I recommend Iridium spark plugs - NGK $18.50 Each or Nippon Denso $22.50 Each plus fitting.

Both of these items often pay for themselves by providing better power and economy. Iridium spark plugs often make more power than copper or platinum even if they are in good condition, especially at higher than standard boost levels.

    FUEL FILTER

Fuel filters should be changed every 20-40,000 Km's. If you have a modified car producing more power than factory and higher demands on spark and fuel then don't waste your time and money tuning with blocked fuel filter which effects air fuel ratio and puts added strain on the fuel pump, which can cause detonation.

FUEL, OIL & FLUIDS AIR FILTER

Make sure your car has plenty of good quality fuel for tuning and diagnosing. We recommend High Octane 98 Ron fuel such as Shell Optimax, BP Ultra and Mobil Synergy 8000. If you are getting full tune the engine oil and cooling system should also be in good condition.
Air filters should be clean and in good condition.

repco actually have a special on NGK Iridium spark plugs from memory $14 per.

it dynod like at 360rwkw but due to the F***wit tuner, he got it pinging so then he had to go to another person, i think someone at HPF and got it tuned at 320-330rwkw @ 10-12psi...but he will get a flash tune done soon though:D....cant wait to see those results:D:D:D
