ok heres the story.was at a big cruise 2nite in melb, tonnes of cars, anyways, after that at like 2 in the morning i was sitting at maccas with a few mates (all had our own cars), we get in them and leave to go home, i leave and change out of first at about 4k rev's, which isnt insanely high, but sounds very loud when im at 4k revs.
all of a sudden, i see flashing lights on my ass...naturally i pull over.cop: what area are you from
    me: Dandenong north (close by)
cop: Im only going to say this once, in the next 5 minutes you better tell nothing but the ****ing truth, dont try spinning any bullsh*t on us.
    me: okay
cop: what are you doing here
me: on my way home, just came from maccas *points behind me at maccas*
cop: thats bull****, you have been out dragging, we saw you (WTF?? i was in maccas with freinds 4 ages chilling out chatting), why lie to us?
me: im being totally honest, ask the people at maccas, i was there for about an hour and just left
cop: yes we've heard that sh*t before, now get your f**king story strait or we are going to conferscate your car
me: im not lying, how can i proove it to you?
cop: ok, you had your chance, you want me to wrap my f**king tourch around your face?
*at this stage, im ****ing packing myself, ive never been pulled over by cops before, they cant talk/THREATEN ME like that, can they??*
    cop: open your bonnet
*both cops look under bonnet for a few mins, nice shiny POD filter and boost controller sitting there, im worried about being defected, then i hear 1 say '****, this kids got nothing we can canary him for', then i though 'phew'*they then pretty much say im free to go, no fines, no defect, nothing, so i was pretty lucky in the end.
i should of asked for his badge number (to complain about him threatning me), but i was too worried, he was so angry he'd take my car if i asked (he threatend to put me in cuffs and take me to cop shop too)I didnt argue once, didnt backchat once, just played it cool and co-operated. im going to look around tomorrow at how much those little portable recorders are, if i had all he said on tape, that c**t would be fired on the spot IMO, he was so agressive and threatening towards me, his partner stood there not saying anything kinda looking sympathetic for me my mates saw me get pulled over, so they took a turn and hid waiting for the cops to go, then we drove to some backstreet where i told em what happend. they were in total shock when i said how the cop was talking to me, and apparently they arnt allowed to threaten me for absolutly no reason too?mother f**kers, i USED to think yeah cops are cops, but they are doing there job i respect them. NOW, haha as f**king if, some are nice sure, but my respect for the police force as dropped to .5%, im so f**king angry.

Dude, the best way to be with police...

is just be polite and helpful. The moment you start being a smartass, you'll be in trouble. This is more so if you are a young bloke. I'm glad you werent a smartass otherwise you could have found yourself in strife. As for the getting pulled over, well this is a tough one. I know we dont like getting pulled over by the police, but that is their job. There are just too many guys out there on the weekend that do but nothing but drive around in their cars looking for races like wankers, and unfortuneatly sometimes the innocent people like yourself get targetted. And i know some people wont like me saying this, but unfortuneatly, hanging out at maccas or KFC with a bunch of guys all in their nice cars is just being a cop magnet. I've stopped in at many KFc's on the way home late at night and I always encounter guys with either their import cars or fully sik commodores just being clowns. And for some reason, me stopping in the zed is just an invitation for a drag. Cops know this, and unfortuneatly target those areas. Although, I think the attitude the cop gave you was just wrong, especially if you were being polite in return. Dont be angry about it quicky, you just have to accept that it will happen from time to time.CheersJEDI-77

i understand all that, but >

Im just cut about how he was threateing me, my parents reckon i should make a offical complaint about it, the i said i dont have the badge number and dad said there was no point.seriously, ild go to court against this c**t if i could, i did nothing f**king wrong and he was threatening to hit me in the face with his massive torch. :x im not complaining about being pulled over or anything, that happens, but i didnt do 1 thing wrong, and strait away he didnt beleive what i was saying (ok i bet they have been spun a fair bit of shit before), they didnt even give me a chance, just started threatening me. :x
i was this close >D< to running from the cops at one stage.when he leaned foward and said he wants to smack me in the face with his torch and raised his torch a bit, i was thinking 'what the fuck, are these real cops or what' and ready to take off.

    Power trip

You have rights quick1.... If a cop ever does that to you, you tell him that unless he has any evidence he should back down, and if he doesn't, then offer to come down to the station with him and make a statement/complaint detailing exactly what happened. Cops like to create the impression that they are a force to be feared and that you're just a piece of shit and you should do whatever they want because they're the police. Two words: power trip. The police work for you, not against you.... If at any time you feel you are being mistreated then you should pursue any action necessarry to ensure it doesn't happen again.

    Yeh that sucks Quicky

what you should do is carry a little tape recorder with you so when you do get pulled over, just start taping in case shit like that happens, then try to get the car rego when they go, that way you have something at least. For them to immediately assume the worst is shit. Glad you didnt lose your cool and things ended up ok. Obviously they were just smartass bully cops who don't know shit about the laws regarding defecting.

    1 was old, 1 was young >> Rob >>

    Jedi,
1 the one swearing/threatening me was about 45, his parner was maybe 30, when the old guy said he'd take my car and threatening to hit me with his torch, i was thinking 'what the f**k' and looked at his parner, his parner looked at me as if to say 'i feel sorry for you mate, but i cant do anything about my parner' :s Rob,
My mates told me to do that exact thing, i mentioned it to my dad, he said it wont work, you cant record a convo unless both people agree to it, so if i record it without them knowing, it cant be used in court or anything, and if i say at the start 'by the way im recording this', they can be assholes but in a professional way... like "Oh, you need new tyres sir, whats that? a pod filter, they are illegal sir" etc, and just defect me for everything.Itd,
Thats what my parents said, cops on a power trip. Its f**ks like this guy last night that make people hate police. I never hated them, i respected them, if i need help they are there to help me etc, but now, my views have changed totally.

It was Noble Park Maccas, wasn't it. >

By the sound of it, it's gotta be Noble Park. The cops there aren't particularly friendly, especially at that time of night.

    how'd you know :><

yeah, there was a cop doing laps of the carpark, stopped behind my silvia, my mates silvia beside me, and another mates silvia beside that, all pretty big exhausts etc. :s we waited over half an hour, most the hero's (young commodore drivers etc) had pissed off, then we decided to slowly leave.
Im sure the cops hid there car near by waiting for us to go. They could look in the maccas window and see 5 young guys sitting there, and 5 2 door p plate cars side by side in the carpark :|

    Shocking shocking

I am sorry to hear this, as I too think that cops sometimes have the worst job. However, threats are not warranted regardless. He now is the criminal and it sets the rest of the department in bad light. May I suggest this, as I would hate to see someone else get the same done to them.
Go to the local police station in person. Even if he is not a part of that station they will track him down, and make a formal complaint (it can be done at the front desk, suggest you go in a separate car) Explain to them exactly what you have said on the forum. They are obliged to investigate it, also mention that they tried to canary you, but found no reason too (as this is incorrect practise as well, they have to have a reason to pull you over, not pull you over then look for a reason).
I speak from experience, as I too was done over by a policeman. Mine was in Frankston, by an unmarked cop car (one policeman); it was over 6yrs ago. I drove from my house to the servo to fill up after washing the Zed. He pulled me over as I came out of the servo, I would have been doing about 10km hour (I drive like a granny). He said I was driving in a "suspicious manner" ???? And, asked to see my licence, I didn't have it with me, and then threaten to arrest me for a stolen car???? As I couldn't prove it was mine??? It was ridiculous, and I was in shock too at his anger as I was very calm and polite. But, he was getting more and more irate as I kept denying the car was stolen, and that I had no proof on me of who I was. He said that he could arrest me there, and to which I replied, " I think you should." And went over and locked my car up. Ready to go to the station, (in handcuffs??), by this time another policeman, in a marked car, had pulled up. Now he was a photonegative and was really great, he called the station and checked the plates. Commented on how nice my car was and wished me a good day.
So there are good and bad cops, we just need to help the cops weed out the bad ones.
Your cop, might have just an inferiority complex or mistaken identify, or is just an arse hole, no of which is excusable for his actions.
    Best of luck.

I have a pocket recorder sitting under >>

seat, ive had the recorder ever since ive had a sports car because of cops like that, dont worry quick1 the guy was on a huge power trip thinking your young and he can do what he wants, funny thing is, sicne ive had the recorder when ever ive been pulled over i have gotten cops who are pretty damn nice to me so its like one bad cop in a few hundred, i still reckon cops suck but its only a select few now :).

If you ever do get a recording

don't worry that you can't take it court with you. Just drop it around to today tonight, or a current affair. They will stir up so much $hit for the Guy and probably the minister for police that he will either get the sack or get a transfer to longreach.

Ive been in that carpark....One night they rolled up blocked both ends of the car park and basically canaried the whole carpark. Had to laugh though. I just locked my car and watched. They can yellow sticker the car when your not even in it!!! Pack of ....... if you ask me. Remember you must state if you plan to record the conversation. If you dont its called entrapment. But as stated above.... Makes great TV!!! Just a tip.... Park your cars on the otherside of the road and walk over to macca's you wont get hastled that way.CheersZmokin

I think cops can be their own worst enemies

quicky was obviously a guy who didn't have any prior hard feelings towards cops. All it takes is an incident like this, and straight away, they've alienated another young bloke. I've had a bad experience with cops, I was in the car with my sister driving, some guy turns in to the side of us, no indication or anything and he was doing about 60 in a 100 zone....my sis went to overtake, the dude just plowed into the passenger seat where I was sitting. The cops came and didn't do any breath testing or anything, just tried to pin my sister for negligent driving. It went to court, the cops lied in court and said they breath tested both parties, lied about the statements we had given (of which we had copies). My sis made an appeal, the cops knew they had no case, and they just chucked the case out. The other guys insurance co picked up the tab as he had bald tyres.I find it very difficult to respect cops. There is a very fine line between the cops and the crooks. Sometimes I'm not sure which is which.

I'm not 100% sure on this - but I thought only ONE party had to agree to the taping of a conversation - not both. How would police get people in those undercover assignments otherwsie? - Or am I watching too much TV???

I can see why the cops start pulling >

dudes over in modified cars. I'm certainly not condoning the bullish behaviour you experienced Quicky, but I was in the CBD of Sydney on Saturday at about 1am (very rare for me). I had parked my Zed at work and had been to a band (iOTA - bloody brilliant BTW) and was walking back to pick up the car - perhaps some 15 city blocks - and at just about every traffic light we came across there was some sort of drag occurring between Silva's, 200SX's, R32 Skylines, Integras, Civics and Celica's(!)... I could not believe how many maniacs there were on the road!!! I even commented to my Girlfriend that their collective behaviour was now going to make me (driving the Zed) a huge target on exit from the city... So just from that snapshot I can understand why cops on road patrol have got a fair bit to put up with. (I'm certainly not defending their behaviour - just trying to explore why they might act that way... either that or the cop that pulled you over is just a major Dic&head!...)

Thanks guys, ive been told >

If i do complain about this cop, most likley since hes a real wanker, he'll tell all his buddies in the force and they'll all be on the lookout for me and make my life a living hell! Just pull me over all the time for no reason and defect me for nothing etc :s I want to get my car in roadworthy condition, a little quieter, hide the boost controller, make a custom box for the POD filter etc (pods are legal if secure/enclosed). that way ill feel a little more confident to ask for badge numbers and stick up for myself a little more..White Ant, i know exactly what u mean, i wouldnt of complained here once if i had of been busted dragging or anything, but i didnt do shit!! I was in maccas for awhile, the cops are so full of shit, and said they saw me dragging up the road, i said go into maccas and ask the workers, i was there for ages, and they didnt beleive me!! :N( Its like they were trying to interigate me to giving in and admiting to doing something :|
