    Benny_C About as subtle as...

Yes, that stuff is designed for flex. Hopefully you won't get cracks in your bog/paint when it's all been smoothed out and painted after some driving.

It will look absolutely magical when finished!! Can't wait for the shots! :zlove:

The sealer was removed and all the joins were seam welded and then grinded flat. If the factory had the time they probably would have done the same thing, however it is way too labour intensive. It's like one huge panel now!

    UPDATE:

High-fill primer coated now, just needs about 20 hours of sanding and then it should be ready for paint!

ive done some reading on this subject because what you have done was exactly what i wanted to do.

from my research the reason why its not done like that is because it will transmitt more stress to the weakest area now... i dont know how much just from what has been done as it doesnt look much but ive always been scared to do it, i really love the look of it been done the way you have done it.

alot have also reccomended to not continously seam weld the entire legnth but to stich weld it so like an inch welded an inch left alone etc...

im not an expert on this subject just what ive been reading up on as i really wanted to do it...

i hope you have no problems with it coz it looks amazing cant wait to see the final product

Stitch welding is better IMO, if you get a crack in a continuous weld it will propagate through the weld.

I agree, stitch welding is probably better but the stitch welding that was holding on my drivers side inner guard had broken almost all the way around and you could flex the whole panel. It's really not going to flex now!
I might beat that flat section that was under the relay box a little to round it off some more looking at the first pic. Not quite even on both sides yet.

It's all stitch welded which I guess wasn't made clear from previous posts.

Did a bit of donor car disassembly today for the transplant into the daily.

So tempting, so very tempting...

    Hey mate,

I like what you have sitting next to it in the last photos ! very nice and yes very tempting I can imagen.

I was just thinking given how clean and tidy the car is with all the hard work you have put in over the years personally (and thats just me so ignore it) I'd be more leaning to trying to keep the original motor purely from a perspective of keeping its heritage and thinking about it from a long term point of view.

Where I some how have this image, where these things would be in the pickles vintage auctions hopefully fetching a nice price? I all ways read thing's that said these cars would eventually get to that level due to their timeless looks, but I guess no one will really know until that time.

Don't worry Scotty the LS1 and manual is for the ute. I have the VG30 block at the machine shop atm and shopping for a billet rebuild kit for it too. I'm all for keeping the original config

Knowing how you do things I am sure its going to be awesome ! and I am sure I will be one of the punters bidding on it when it eventually graces shannons vintage auctions! :D

Sorry not sure how pickles got into my last post but I meant the Shannons classic car auctions !
