this isn't boostcrusinig, far as i can tell everyone who's had a bitch in here works on their own car. even ugame who bitches the most about the zed has at the very least picked up a tool a few times, even if it's just a toothbrush and hose for degreasing his engine bay LOL.

I drove Z's daily for 5 years without a problem, it certainly can be done if you undertake some preventative maintenance and look under your hood at least once a month. The only downside to driving a Z daily is not being able to make major upgrades to it, since you need it to get around. That's the only reason I parked mine up as a daily...

    Some people are just soft.

    Wow this thread got big.

I'm loving all the input. And im hearing what you guys are saying about being an enthusiest and all that. The 2+2 thing is almost a necessity. And it ties in with not being able to have the car off the road from time to time. I cant really afford a daily (the insurance and rego side of things) and with two kids its quite important, even if its going to be squishy, that i always have a back up if something goes wrong with the family car. Plus im very often driving more than 1 friend around at a time, i think that in this case rather than the 4 seater being a want, the 2 seater would be a huge inconvenience.
I refered earlier to being older smarter and having more money, because this is my first turbo car and id prefer to work on something with a little more ease than the vg before getting one. I'm still learning cars and i love working on them but i need a bit more experience knowing about them and studying them first i think to pull off a 300. Also with age hopefully ill have more room (and a garage!) where i can work on a car and not need it running all the time.

Those details would have helped if you said that at the beginning of the thread. So you need something reliable, only car in the family and can't afford to have it off the road for too long. Based on that unless you find the right zed, it will definitely end in headaches. What remains unchanged is the fact an R34 is going to be the easier one to find in better nick simply because it's 10 years younger and a bit easier to work on.

ugame had exactly the same requirements as you and as a result we keep hearing about how he wants another car every second week because it just wasn't the right one. Only pro for keeping his zed was the fact it's not worth anything so he isn't selling. How is that even a pro for keeping it?

I think even he knows he complains too much subconsciously so given such a easy opportunity to reject his zed, he then turns around and takes the high road and recommend the zed. Quite strange really. Don't worry mate, I still love ya :D

This isn't a forum filled with mindless fanboys that recommends our cars over everything else despite being clearly unsuitable, all under the false pretence of being an enthusiast.

Odly, this isn't the "have a dig at ugame whenever you get the chance" forum either. Or am I the new iCer? Fine if that's the case, but be nice if someone could let me know so I can play the part.
If you read my first reply to the OP, you'll find I actually gave a BALANCED opinion using cost difference as a rationale and giving 2+2 advice.

    Aaaany way

To 300zex, I hear ya on the need for 4 seats at present.

If you like the lines of the Zed, but want something easier to work on, have you considered something with a smaller engine?

Everyone else knows where I'm going with this lol......

But when I first looked at Zeds, I too decided that, at the time, on my income and budget, the Z32 would have to wait.

    So instead I purchased a 180sx.

Very good looking cars and very easy to work on.

I recommend going for one with the SR20 motor (I had the CA18) and try to get as late a model as you can, that hasn't been used as a drift pig.

Very nice cars for cheep $$$

Of course another alternative would be a supra. Good sporty lines and again, much easier to work on than the Zed.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

...and i think we just found out why the cars values have dropped so dramatically, honestly you can be all high and mighty about it, but if you talk any other import owner group they think their cars are literally THE SHIT... Im just saying.. on a public forum where people come who may be thinking about buying YOUR cars in the future maybe act like erm enthusiasts? lol...

Don't think it matters much who says what about 300zx / imports in general. Imports don't really hold their value anyways. Just because the skyline boys think their cars are THE SHIT doesn't mean the values are staying up.. Because they aren't.

For me personally, this is why the r34 didn't cross my mind at all.

What the skyline used to look like, and honestly what the R34 still looks like, no matter what you do to it lol
    [IMG]

    And why I opted for a Z:

Just in case any of you are daft enough to forget: Those 2 cars above were made in the same year(give or take a year :p)
    .
    ...

Honestly, after all the hype about skylines, they're still f*cking family cars. the newest GT-R is a supercar, it's about twice the size of an R34 lol and well, where'd the inline-6 go? Hell they even ditched the skyline badge, cause it ain't a 'f*ckin family car, like the R31,33,34 etc!!

My 2c anyways, but I'm sure some of us here will agree :D:zlove:.

    AndyMac Better than you

The average price of zeds sold in the forum is about 20-30% LESS than the private seller cars in the public market. When it comes time to sell my car, as much as I'd love it to go to a forum member, I will be going for the extra 2-3K I'd get advertised elsewhere.

BUT...i'd definately buy off the forum :p
