If a repost, please delete. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=113933 it's something I've got in mind for the future, but as you can see fromk the thread, it aint easy. Still an interesting read. The fun starts about 2/3 down page 1. Sadly some key pics now dont work Anyone in Oz done this swap?
i've been thinking about this.... i drove with a 350z track and it was awesome. very quick off the lights and just looks/sounds fun to drive. it dosnt look simple by all means but its only the engine mounts, cross member and "adding" a bit of room for the transmission. i'll hit it up one day.... perhaps a 350ZX :zlove:
that and the cost, wiring, getting ancillaries to fit up and work such as air con, power steering etc. Not worth it until vq35's come down a lot in price, much like vh45's
well i was thinking more along the lines of a track car, stroked and possibly a turbo or two but i understnad where you come from.
Maybe he deleted them because they were showing to much and no one would buy his kit He has a few pics on http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/drews240/ but not sure if there are any new ones. He has a video of the car running.
yeah I too am waiting for the VQ35DE to drop in price. Maybe this will happen when the 370z comes out? dunno. Thing is catching it at the right moment. When its cheep but not old and crap lol Otherwise, might as well put the money into a VG30DETT rebuild. Much easier. But yeah, a Z32 350ZX would be an awsome badge to have on the back
I'm not really sure what the big deal is with this. Anyone with a TT already has a motor that makes more power and torque than the vq35. If it's new parts you want, you can get a new TT long block from Nissan, along with the 5-speed. To me, getting rid of the vg30dett for a vq35de is just a downgrade. I did read through the thread and a few people have said that the vq35de is a LOT lighter than the vg30. If this is the case, you would also upset the car's handling, since our zeds have very close to 50:50 weight distribution already. -Kirill
true but with some effort you could do some weight saving in the rear to re-balance Then you have a MUCH lighter car. I agree on VQ35DE vs VG30DETT power, but thats comparing a stock NA to a stock TT Throw a bolt on SC or TT kit onto the VQ and kiss goodbye to VG fanboyship But that said, there probably is more to be gained by just swapping to the good old LS1 or 2, or VH45, or as said above, just rebuild the VG the idea of going VQ though is more so its all kept "Z" but yeah, probably isn't financially viable
i think it would be worth it. the TRACK 350Z has 230KW at the engine... stock! i think if someone is going to the effort of doing this sort of transplant they wont be keeping the engine stock! like i said, stroked to 3.7, twin turbo and all the running gear would make an incredible engine! one company makes a tt kit for the vq35 and its promised about 450 - 500HP, just with the turbos and tune.
Yay 230kw at the engine.. stock! Did you realise that vg30dett makes 226 at the engine.. STOCK! It also makes more torque than the vq35 and makes that torque much sooner in the rev range. End of the day, the cost of transplant + stroker kit + twin turbo conversion is simply not worth it, you would have a monstrous VG30 for the same money pumping more power. -Kirill
touche salesman.... touche. that saying, thats a stock tt and the vq35de similar kw with out the two turbos.
where is this 500 hp vq35 kit anyway? I think a lot more needs to be upgraded, otherwise somebodiesss gawna gooo BANG BANG
Turbos on vg30 are tiny for one. Vq35 has half a litre bigger capacity for two. As for power being similar, forget the kw rating and have a look at torque output.. and also, when maximum torque is produced. That's what you'll be feeling when you drive the cars, and this is what makes a 20 year old 300zx smack a 5 year old 350z in the mouth. -Kirill
and you'd probably spend in excess of $50,000 doing that you'd be better off spending $20,000 on a bullet proof VG30DETT build which would make much more power and putting $30,000 back in your bank managers pocket
Linky apparently not, turbo, tune, light fuel delivery mods and and related piping is all that is needed for 120rwhp more, so probably around 450hp (317kW) at the engine! thats respectable
lol. 2 turbos, ecu remap, massive intercoolers and fuel delivery mods? You do realise that the vg30 will comfortably meet if not surpass this figure with the mods mentioned? You have also failed to mention that they had to use a bigger sump along with an upgraded oil pump. I guess this swap is awesome if you drive an NA, anyone with a TT already has an engine that pumps out more right off the bat. -Kirill
wat would the point be? its allready been prooved that the 300 tt as big a heavy it is beats the 350 handsdown
not hands down, in a straight line yes... but the 350's do handle pretty well, 300 looks better obviously
