Standard WRX's - bear in mind non STi, only do low 14sec quarter miles. You should be able to blow em off!

You guys are missing the point; straight line stuff is not their strong point; its handling and braking where these cars far exceed a fat and underbraked zed.

exactly.... bottom line is that they are awesome for track use due to their good handling but in a straight line you will give it a run for its money....they werent made for straight line drags...as franz said

Though in saying that, look at my signature re power output, drag times and terminal speed! haha

oh yeah i know they are quick...but would be pretty even between the 300zx and evo/rex....is yours stock though?

Neither of my cars are stock. Stock of both make considerably less power and torque.

Just bolt ons on the Evo, Full HKS TBE, Plumb back HKS BOV, HKS Intake Piping Kit and HKS Air Filter. Tune to come soon which should see alot more power.

Zeds essentially got a tune, boost, Apexi Pod Filter, ARC Bov's and Hardpipes and crappy 2.5" Cat back exhaust.

nice figures franz...yeah i have only driven an evo viii once and it was stock, thats what i was comparing the 300zx too...mind you the only manual i had ever driven before that was my mates r33..taught me to drive manual in that and 1 week later i drove the evo...so i wasnt going as hard as possible....was still a noob at manual...still am  they are the only 2 manulas i have ever driven  ....so i would say the one i drove and the one you have are just a little different performance wise ahah :D

Hehe, just learning a manual let alone trying to feel what the car can do would be a bit difficult I bet.

The zed's generally feel a lot stronger and more powerful and they like the higher speeds a bit more than and Evo or a WRX. They also feel less laggy thanks to the bigger capacity engine.

I reckon your Z will beat your EVO from a rolling start.

i have driven a 2003 sti numerous times and the braking on them is amazing you can approach tight corners at considerably higher speed and have confidence in the car to haul up (bad lag though). A zed equiped with some stoptechs though would be able to keep up and maybe even out-do both the evo and the sti :D

Thanks to Grant (1TurboStillFun) driving my zed, we had a rolling start at 100kph, despite me leaving the aircon on and having a passenger in the Evo, I still beat my zed, I was about 2 car lengths ahead at $2.

I feel owning an Evo, now doing alot of seat time in an 04 STi as I'll be driving one in the Dutton Rally in July and doing a $hitload of motorsport in the zed, I feel I can comment. IMO I don't think that statement is at all true; there is no way a zed can carry more corner and exit speed than an Evo or STi; there is so much more weight; the balance is different, and the zed can not put power down efficiently on exit.

I won't even start on the Evo's Super AYC, ACD or EBD or the STi'S DCCD to help make them corner even better!!

    Silly Muppets...

Anyone who thinks an EVO/STi will NOT beat a Zed is dreaming. Especially in twisties, and even with roll-ons they are strong! (As Franz and I proved)... Although Dyno Queens can stand tall that mod for mod the Zed will probably have more power, but Clark Gable said it best: "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!"

(Choose your catch phrase) Where does it count for you? What floats your boat? Horses for Courses...

Eventually everyone will realise what the Zed is...

No way mate sorry I have big $ 355mm custom race rotors and AP Racing 6 piston calipers with dual carbon pads on the front and cannot match an EVO for corner speed they are too well balanced and grippy and slice through the corners whereas the zed is hard to turn in and get the power sticking on the exits. The brakes slow me down but the EVO's handling is superior and the 4wd technology is second to only maybe a few very expensive euro cars and then is still probably superior in many ways.

Going by weight figures the new Sti and Evo9 weigh close to 1500kgs. I weighed my zed and it was 1560kgs. So i think the 4WD system is what makes them so deadily, more than the weight issue.

Roll on starts with 262rwkw @ 1 bar and the Evo9 running stock 1 bar, I would pull two car lengths away and slowly keep creeping away. But standing still races, it would be catch up from the word go but i understand i have bald tyres and still not good with launches as much as sitting it in one spot and doing a burnout. All in all, i was very impressed with the Evo 9 and i know the zed is like 17years old and the Evo9 costs $60ks but still a very interesting peice of machinery compared to the other cars on the road when it comes to speed and handling.
