Agreed, there's alot of desk mechanics here... Superchargers are also very difficult to intercool. Most are done with a water/air intercooler which are very complicated systems to setup and maintain and then heatsoak becomes a big issue and a whole bag of other problems. Definately not worth the effort, turbochargers are just a more efficient way of making power it's as simple as that until you start looking at $150,000 supercharged dragster engines.
i dont get people knocking the TT around corners... i highly doubt boost is a issue round corners unless you drop down heaps in the rpm... and as for lag, if you want in a TT you will feel practically none, i mean look at jasons launch... he launched at 6krpm, think lag was a issue??? i dont think u will drop below 3000rpm whilst cornering, im 100% behind theTT on this, more torque, more power, slight less of a band then the SC and if its mod for mod you gota include the superchargers load on the engine. i highly doubt this fella will go ahead with it, since his SC is the size of a small house, hardly will fit in there. just something to have to wait and see, but everyone knows it really does come down to the drivers ability aswell.
I am more interested in seeing how you go adapting the T56. If you could get a low cost adaptor solution made up for that I reckon that would be a cool little side line income for you.
All I can say is 'GODS SPEED STILLEN!' you carry the hopes and dreams of every NA Zed owner who has dreamt of Supercharging :zlove: .... Good luck and I hope you get the SOAB running!
its 100% doable..... i had actaully planned on doing this myself but in the end found a tt i couldnt resist so bought that instead..... it would be easier using a different style of blower mounted where the standard air con compressor is,but if you make a custom manifold it may work the way you have planned....try and keep it under bonnet though for legality reasons mainly..... cooling can be achieved through water injection if tuned correctly, not ideal but possible and not as difficult as intercooling your propsed setup..... i personally wouldnt stuff around with the gearbox, use the existing manual z box its plenty strong enough to handle the power you would make... my 2 cents worth anyway.... good luck, would love to see it done....
Always wanted to do it Ive always liked the idea of supercharging a car and now Ive just myself a Jeep Grand Cherokee, its nice having a V8 again , I decided just to do it. I thought of selling it but, a N/A with 260,000+Km on the clock and the paint works not looking to good, I wouldn't get much for it. I know its going to be a lot of work but its the challange, if I wanted an easy life I would have gone and bought a TT. The idea of a supercharger AND a turbo sounds very interesting
Solution...? Your solution may be to forget about the Zed V6 and use your Eaton SC on a 302/351 V8 and do the transplant into the Zed (before I get around to doing the exact same thing! ). I have the Zed (a TT), I have the 302 Windsor/gearbox and I have the Eaton supercharger... I just need the time, as I have decided to 'get a life' other than spending every day of my retirement FIXING stuff on the TT that just keeps having problems.... exactly as every other forum member knows it's an ongoing love/hate with these engines!!!
Pity in a way, really, as I also finally just organised a pair of matching Garrett T28s to fit to the VG!! Along the way I've also picked up six other turbos, a HKS ProCon ECU, etc, etc....
Same power output, same driver, same suspension etc.... Supercharged/NA car will win on a twisty track, a turbo car will have more of an advantage where there are longer straights and longer corners. Conclusion based on where the power is acheived - more top end on a turbo car, more low-mid range on a supercharged/hi-po NA Cheers Rob
Just go with an LS1. Smaller engine, lighter, take to supercharging fairly well, cheap and plenty of mechanics that knows how the engine works................. Hey have you guys seen the picture of a supercharged tri fuel ford V10 aparently it takes to hydrogen, normal petrol and ethanol..........wow. Hey stillen put one of these on
lag on corners? what in the hell are you guys on about? ever heard of downshift? ffs TT Z > SC Z > NA Z at everything. end of story.
I read about the MYT engine... some weird invention from the states. not yet in production, but looks impressive... impressive enough to look into as a weird engine combination for a car. Check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGlUZg2pC0Q
thats why you would downshift before entering the corner, helps shift you through the corner right? and boost on the outlet
Always wanted to see this done and what power figues it would have, good luck, interested to see the final result!
even if you did, shifting down during a corner is not something you'd want to do. in a NA car at least it'll let you get away with it, in a TT, not the best of ideas.
