RE: you chipping my english abilites?

    In a word, YES

I would have thought that attention to detail, and accuracy, were two prime requisites for an Economist "worth his salt".
I see nothing thus far to change my mind.

who said anything about being an economist

I aint an economist, i studied the shit for a damn long time, shows your own english abilities arent to flash as your comprehension sucks.

You have presented this debate, you will make yourself a target by slandering back to the people giving you a response. The response is what you wanted yes? or you would not have posted on a public forum.
What is your argument at this stage?

You feel the end of the 15 year rule is unfair? And we should have easier access to second hand vehicles from Japan?

Our argument back, was the Australian government ended this rule, to protect its domestic automotive industry.

Unless you have the data the government would have had to forecast and make a decision that would affect such a large industry and associated bodies then this argument is just opinionated and you'll have to take it on that worth.

If you've studied economics at such an impressive "post-grad level"

then you would surely understand the importance of government intervention for the protection of the local market. Who are you to say you better understand the impact of 15 year old (lets pause here, as Ron said, useless according to YOUR statistics for 7-8 years) japanese THRASHED cars, often modified with terrible exhausts and other stuff, on our environment than third party, independant organisations brought in to prepare Impact Reports?

I imported a car under the fifteen year rule. It was a good rule, but with the passage of time the intent of the legislation - to allow collectors and enthusiasts without commercial intent the ability to import rare vehicles - was lost, and importers were bringing in massive numbers of 15 year old cars commercially, increasing the average age of the Australian fleet.

So whats your fucking point? This was news a year ago, now its just you and your pigheadedness filling my computer screen with nonsense.

Dont reply, I cant be fucked.

    Thrashed???

well 7-8 years is the family wagon mate, nothing fancy your average grannies car, your lady driver in the city.

cars in japan are a disposable item, use them then toss em, a 7-8 years is about the age they are tossed. as the condition of them goes, it varries however given that the place is soo packed and tolls on the roads most cars are runabout for the local area, rarily do people go road tripping over there.

the drive to my wifes home town is 200 KM from tokyo one way, the charge of the toll (which is the same for all cars, motor bikes and passange vehicles) was about 150 bucks return. Get the picture? thats why if the thing has been garaged, serviced and is about 7-8 years with 50,000 (typical figure) on the clock and costs 3-4 grand i recond its a pretty good deal.

only cars like the 300 zx who have sentamentalist people who keep them survive the scrap yard. if the japanese didnt have soft spot for the 300 zx (if it was another camry or corolla to them) then they would have all be scraped, retired or sent to the third world (alot go to New Zealand thats the third world aint it?) long ago and hence they would not available to all the people on here who own one.

Firstly, you don't have the slightest idea as to what level of education I may (or may not) possess, whilst I and many other readers, have a pretty good indication of yours (based on the preceeding drivel that you have provided here).

Secondly, the term "grease monkey" denotes someone who derives income from working on machinery. As I don't fit that description, you are clearly in error (something to which I'm sure you are accustomed).

Thirdly, if Santa didn't bring you the X-Box you so desperately wanted, find some other way of enjoying your school holidays. This forum is for the use of people who enjoy the company of other Zed owners, and who would like to share helpful knowledge on that subject, not for amateur economists or political activists.

As for the title "you sad old fuck", I have to own-up to being in the elder group of Zed owners, but I doubt that I am sad (except when reading this waste of time you initiated). That just leaves us with "fuck", and frankly I don't give one.

I don't really find it funny

Or even coincidental. The fact is you are right, they abolished the 15 year rule because it was designed to limit the number of imports coming in, once 2004/05 hit there are a stream of very popular cars available for import, and thus the number coming in increased. I don't think that it was threatening the local manufacturers (Holden/Ford/Mitsubishi) as much as it was affecting the japanese manufacturers. The laws were changed because they were no longer having a large enough effect on the number of imports coming in. Though the government may have used other reasons publically, i think the real reasons were pretty clear. The fact remains that it doesn't really matter why it was done, it was done, and no amount of crying or bitching is going to change it.

I suggest that JC finds a cause he can affect, you know something current and important, say for example world hunger.

    Chilli as always

    :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: very witty.
In your own words "group benifit" is what the government should aim for. This is what they have done. Protecting the local industry is the governments main priority. Why? Because they supply the type of cars the majority WANTS and NEEDS. Even you must agree that cars like the 300zx, silvias and other hot imports appeal to a very tiny fraction of society.

Even without the 15yr rule cars like ours would not nor will it ever flood the market. I find it very hard imagining the 180 as a family car, used for holidays, carting the family or travelling 1000kms. (as you pointed out these cars were not designed or are used as long haulers in japan).

You do realise that one of the most demanding situations for an engine/car is not on the long highway cruises but during stop-start traffic, starting up and shutting down.

After finding out just a couple of days ago that my transmission fluid have NEVER been changed I find it extreemly hard to believe japs as maintaining their cars properly. Im sure some do, but in my case these salesman talk of properly maintained, rarely driven, lady driver, expensive after certain number of years, blah blah blah no longer hold any value.

As you said yourself "cars in japan are a disposable item". Sorry but I love the zed, dont think of it as an investment or as a disposable item. Thats probably why most of my pay goes in maintaining/fixing or upgrading the thing. I would hate to think that I bought my zed from a guy that abused it and chucked it away, seeing as they are disposable.

Given the chance to buy the car again I would strongly advise against buying from an importer or a salesman!!!!!!!!!! The best place in my view is from fellow enthusiasts in this forum :thumbsup::thumbsup:.

Mate those New Zealanders are bloody huge, with big arms to choke you and knuckles to puch you with. You sure dont want them to get :angry::angry:.

which all appear to essentially say the same thing?

No offence, but I'm just trying to work out from your multiple threads and posts what you want to do/say here.

Welcome to the forum BTW> I suspect we'll hear quite a bit from you!;)

    Old age you say?

Hey I own a holden and a ford, i agree that I might be lower class :p:p:pbut I certainly take offence when someone else tells me that im lower class :(:(:(. As for being superior try telling that to someone looking at hauling a faimily of samoans :).

From your posts, you seem to have a problem with our local auto industry mainly HOLDENS and FORDS. These two manufacturers already compete with jap brands i.e. with the camery and magna etc. So far both ford and holden have thrived in this very cometitive environment.
