I may be the only one here who thinks the R33 GTR is a better looking car!

I just like the targa tops!

Sounds like your particular Zed has given you a bad impression then.

try comparing the Skyline to a Zed in perfect nick.

So, let me get this right......

you'd spend nearly as much as a Z32TT that comes stock with more power than an R32/R33, has the handling of a go-kart, slick aerodynamics and a list of creature comforts a mile long - for an OLD BOXY R31 that would spin-out and roll on the first attempted corner to try and keep with a Z32???:wacko:

    That's funny.

There would be an interesting factor of resale value, do you really think you'd get your money back on the $10,000 RB30E engine with a turbo slapped on it?

Just imagine if you saved a few more pennies and bought your stock Z32TT - and then put even $5000 into your motor, you would be very strapped to find ANYTHING on the road that would come close.
    - let alone trying to find a crappy Skyline to beat it

Common sense makes me know which option I'd prefer...

Re: So, let me get this right......

Never said anything about resale value, you do it for the fun of driving and the experiances of building it.

And yes they may look boxy to you, any stock standard R31 looks pretty plain. You should see some of the done up ones though, freakin look awsome and absolutely go and handle exceptionally well!!

I think this thread is talking more about the comparison between which is better from the factory so in that regard, yes the R31 is no contender.

Oy! No need to call the Skylines crappy! Im a R31 enthusiest and dont go calling 300s crappy...I love em as I said before (GF has one ;) )

    Cheers!

    HPI magazine

I think it is probly fairly well known that High performance imports magazine is somewhat unfair towards the z32, however they did a write up comparison of the z32 Vs the r33 and the Zed won on everything except for:

    1. Finding a good example (hopefully already performed by most reading this site)

    2. the unexplained 'fun' factor where they decided that the r33 is more fun to drive (personally I think that if there ever was a biased opinion in a mag it would be said fun factor)

They also had their usual whinge about how the Z is heavy but we all knew that before buying the Z

They also admitted (somewhat grudingly) that the Z was much more powerful and would cain the r33 in a race.

Personnally I like the number of other Z's oin the road, enough for a community and for group buys etc. without having to wave at every 2nd car on the road aka skyline (the new jap commadore on Aussie roads).

guessing their "fun factor" gauge needed a calibration.

I never understand the heavy factor...

maybe heavy compared to something like an MX-5 or RX-7, but all the others cars in the same class weigh about the same dont they?

    Supra??
    Skyline??

    Cheers

    yep, heaviness is way exaggerated,

and is comparable to the weight of a GTR (and less in the case of the slicktop at 1420kg ).

    this site has some numbers:
    http://www.importdriver.com.au/Coupe_Targa.htm

don't know how accurate they are though.

gts-t etc are a substantial amount lighter than a z32. and those silvias are featherweight!

all the GT-Rs are better looking. no doubt in my mind. and given the choice i would get rid of the targas on my car - i reckon they make it look cheap. what it comes down to is i couldnt afford a gt-r, an r32 from japan was gonna cost like $7-9k more than the zed. imho the rb26 is a better engine. but i would never be caught dead in a gts-t. still i havent really driven a gt-r or gts-t as i have previously stated, but i need to get on a track somewhere to find out how the zed really goes.

as for hpi - they are gay. i read that article, a guy at work had it (he drives an r32 gts (ie rb20 without turbo)) , and i found it amusing that the best reason hpi could come up with to get an r33 was that it is better suited to daily duties such as getting groceries? i mean wtf? how does that make it a better car - it makes it a goddamn corolla...

I have the answer for you Dude. Email J4play he has a nice slick back to sell !! :D

I personally would want a zed without targas. There is no feeling like driving through a busy road with the roof off on a hot day with the sun shining in.

That is the peak of the zed experience for me (apart from going like a bat out of hell round a nice twisty road)

hahaha, i think i would much rather have a solid roof, never been a fan of convertabiles/targratops or even sunroofs as i have this thing about wanting a solid roof when i inevtiabley put the car into a pole/wall/big truck

    I think you'll find......

that a 'solid' roof would have just as much if not less supports than the targa top.

Also if you were to inevtiabley run into pole/wall/big truck, having a 'solid' roof would be no different than a targa top. :)

anyone correct me if I am wrong.

How could you say an R33 could look better than a Zed?

WELL SAID!!!! lol pics are proof

  18. Targa vs non-Targa

i believe the difference is in weight, about 50 kg's of extra steel to make the targa roof as equally as strong as the standard roof, which won't leak... and then there is the rule, less weight is more horsepower, so how much extra is 50kg???

i think they both look hot.

naturally, the Z has the edge (and naturally i'm bias!), especially when you consider that it was released 5 odd years earlier.

What front bar is on the black Z? Is it a Stillen GTZ-R?

Also what do you guys think of this one?
    http://www.extremedimensions.com/4975.html
Is it a copy of another bar?
and would anyone know what front bar that is on SAZedBoy's car?
