What a great day heaps of fun down and back, thanks Col for putting this on should organise another before the end of this year it was worth the wait.

Driving the zed through those bends put a smile on my dial heaps of fun:D :D
So many zeds and each car had their own look about them. Again I met heaps of new ppl and to put the faces to the nicknames is fun in its self:) great ppl this zed community:zlTo drive in a group of 30plus zeds was a buzz, everytime we drove past the towns all heads would just turn to see this convoy of sweet cars drive by.

Just couldnt shake this skyline(Blipman) on the way down he was in front of me, on the way back he was behind me:eek: gotta to admit Ben the car looks sweet mate and when you turned the lights on behind me the car reminded me of those tv shots when the nissans where a part of Bathurst:D

Again, cheers to Col, great day, this is my second Aus300zx GOR cruise, and loved it even more this time around!

I have plenty of work ahead of me...sorting through over 15GB of photos and video will take a while! But I'll post up some of mine later tonight! :p

Here is a teaser....we were lucky we missed the bulk of these clouds.

seeing a few Z headlights in the rear view mirror

against the setting sun coming back from Geelong was nice, tried to get a photo, but children, trying to photograph your rear vision mirror while driving is not a highly recommended manouveur.

    Many thanks to everyone!

I'd like to thank everyone for a couple of things:

1/ the amazing turnout. Even though I'd been keeping a tally of attendees it was fantastic to see the number of people who turned up - it really added to the experience. This cruise is always good fun, but seeing so many zeds together was truly awesome. I wasn't able to get an accurate number of cars, but it was 33ish zeds and 2 non-zeds.

2/ Driving behaviour. I couldn't have asked for better as everyone was exceptionally well behaved. There is nothing wrong with having a bit of a squirt, but nobody crossed the line which was really pleasing.

3/ IB, Judy & Tigger. To come all the way down from the ACT was fantastic. Unfortunately I didn't get much of a chance to speak to you, but I'm sure we'll catch up again in the future.

4/ RedZedMikey. It might have taken 5 years, but we finally got you on the GOR!!!

Anyway enough of the chatter, here are my pics:

Possibly the very first traffic jam in Apollo Bay (well the first zed related one anyway!)...

From a personal perpective the only disappointments on this cruise were not speaking to many people other than "we're going now", and the timing of some of the stops. My usual plan for this cruise which has worked pretty well previously got bent out of shape for this one with so many cars. It took longer to get going each time we stopped, was much harder sticking together through Geelong, and as a result took much longer to get where we were going which meant we got caught up in a little bit of traffic. But hey - you live & learn hey!

For anyone interested I believe some of the interstate guys will be doing a GOR trip on the Monday after the nationals, so keep an eye out for that. But either way, I think we might have another crack at the GOR in November, this time with some nice twisty backroad stuff (just for Ben!).

I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone at Wykked's tech day.

Dude, that's about the best I've ever seen tourists on that round during the 1,000 or so trips I've done down that stretch. Seriously it is rare for even 1 car to use a turn-out lane for the whole day. We got a really good run yesterday.

If you wanted a great stab at it, you should have gone down there a few years ago when the entire road (even the twisties) was a 100km/h zone on a Sunday morning with no traffic. Sublime!

Seeing all these awesome pics make me wich I was there even more. I definately can't wait till next feb. Might have to tag along with the interstaters after nationals.
Also would anyone be interested in a Black Spur run? I think I've got a good route (found it on a website) but I just wanted to ask about timing and stuff. When would be the best time to do this cruise? If people are interested I'll go out and drive the route and work out the timings and pit stops.

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Didn't actually wash it Jorge, just took off the superficial dust. BUT, today I found at the local supermarket four bottles of waterless car wash, reduced from $25 each to $10... bought all of them. Car now looks like

Well, on the Vic calendar there's Wykked's Tech day, followed by the nationals at easter. Have a talk to a few people at the techday and go from there. "If you plan it, they will come".

    ok my turn!

as already mentioned by everyone else, great job Col! was a cracker of a day!

I joined the crowd at torquay with a couple of the other surfcoast members so no highway driving for me, just lots of twisty stuff. like Col said traffic wasn't too bad, I drive the G.O.R. every weekend (sucks to be me huh:rolleyes: ) & i've had HEAPS worse. people refuse to use the turn offs, i've got an excellent system though, flash the high beams & hold the horn down till they move!

    now, onto some quick pics!

some of the cars at point danger (torquay)

spot the truck... conveniently sitting mid pack the entire way to apollo bay!

on the way to Laver's Hill, damn Jedi's zed sounds awesome!

this stretch is great, couple tight corners, short straight, repeat...

& my company on the return journey, R34 GTR V-Spec2. had some good fun with him, could keep in touch through the twistier bits but as soon as it straightened out & he hit boost he'd disappear. but then he'd slow down & wait for me:D
drove light a dick though, crossing double lines left, right & centre so he could take the 'racing line'...

& for you interstaters making the trip be sure to give me a heads up because i'll definately be up for another trip!

    cheers, Tim

I might go out and drive the route with some friends in the next week or so. Then I'll work out the date. Dont want to go to far past easter. The weather might start getting bad if I go too far into Autumn. I'd love to get as many zeds as you did but I doubt it.

This cruise might be a bit difficult for an amateur cruise pimp to organise. I should probably start by organising one of our many night cruises. I need to learn from the senior cruise pimps.

^^this was a complete success because it only comes around once a year, and the G.O.R has been rated the number 1 cruise for the zeds...so every1 had ample time to get into gear for this one :p

im going to keep that in mind next time,

  17. Blipman

    Blipman Beer hooves totally work

I don't mean to be a wet rag but I thought the traffic/driving on this GOR cruise was not as good as others... a lot of people have been raving about it but I found that on previous cruises there was more of a chance to have a bit of fun and take some corners without something in front slowing you down. But hey, that's just me. I agree with Col, well done everyone for using their brains and driving responsibly.

And to make you all feel better, while the Skyline indeed has some positive attributes, it doesn't compare to the FEEL of a Z on roads like this.... I miss it :(

That looks like Russ's car aka ZedHed.

100Km/h yikes! Also you could see painted over broken lines, where it used to be legal to overtake... Some of those places really did need to be painted over.

I had no idea we were parting ways after Lavers Hill, I was concerned about losing people on the way back, and even got off at todd road. MikeZ32 was there, A little worried about how much petrol was left in his tank.

Never having driven down there before I was bit nervous, But was mostly restricted by who ever was in front of me at the time, hung back every now and then and gave it some through the bends though. I never lost traction either... on one corner I made the tyres squeal, even then it held the road like glue. I made use of all the gears on those twisties, ended up in 3rd alot. What was the drive like for you auto boys?

I kept to the lines 99.99% of time. Right after this bus or truck had turned off, we sped up, and I just saw the racing line staring back at me, I had to take it.

Personally when I drive alone, I tend to drive a bit wilder, as I'm not responsible for anyone else's safety/comfort, And I got to crank my crazy ass music all the way.

  19. Baroo

    Baroo TIMMAY!

Many yhanks go out to Col

for organizing another great cruise. My first G.O.R:D :D :D

Lovely to put the zed around a few tight twisties amongst a convoy of 30+ zeds. Glad I drank too much for breakfast as I had to pull over to, well um (leak), and the catch up was just as fun letting the TT kick in.

Was also great to see so many new members who take pride in their cars which was shown through the quality of their zeds. Good work zedders. I tell you simon (hot300zx) new suspension holds the zed on the road a lot better than my stock setup as following him was pure magic watching his car gliding through those twisties.

But, there is always a but, while we may curse, bitch or moan about the slower drivers in the G.O.R we also need to be aware of other traffic using the roads when we are in such big numbers. As on my trip back to melbourne I noticed a few of us tended to drive three abreast along a three lane highway not letting the faster traffic through. It was quite frustrating to a few of the other drivers out their.

Many thanks again Col and great to catch up with some old faces and new alike.

    Cheerz

i couldnt belive how fast this guy was going in the twisties...i was behind him by about 3 zeds and boy was he giving the truck a good belting....i wouldnt want to imagine him in a zed though LOLL...im telling ya this guy was going as good as some of us out there and this thing was fknnn hugggeeee....i didnt get annoyed much by him not moving out the way because he seirously stuck up the arse of the zed infront of him at all times thru the twisty roads...but he did take a left turn someone and the zed line was re-united :D
