Just drill the old suckers out and cut and allen key to fit, thats whats holding my cam gears in place

Yeah that was what I did with Martin's. Used a bit of 4mm hex key that I cut down actually

Bit dodgy though. I couldn't get the old pins out, even with lots of heat. Had to drill them.

    Edit:

    As above :p

Really pleased to see it fixed but

I don't need any praise, toward the end everyone was contributing suggestions (including AndyMac:zlove:) but Niall was the one that got off his butt and went over to physically help.

Well done Niall, you are really building a well deserved good rep around here

And also the biggest praise should go to James Denison (ZX1990) who stuck in there with the problem and helped Craig do all the heavy duty mechanical work... and there has been much work done to fix this one:zlove::zlove::zlove:

    Great Results!

Great result and plenty of effort put in by all of you. :)

Good thing you didn't bring it to Gympie for the tech day  It would NEVER have got done. :p

While i was there the boys did a plenum pull in under 3 minutes. Very impressed.

With problems like this you must have a diagnostic process, vacum is one of the first things i looked for, 4 inches on idle indicated late valve timing.

Thanks to everyone for the input - its been 3 weeks of fault finding which was getting pretty painfull  But on the bright side - we can do a plenum pull and swap fuel rails, then put it all back together in 40 minutes :D
We made the mistake of ruling out cam timing early on - who would have thought we could have good compression with the cam that far out! Also goes to show that you should always use a torque wrench - luck we didn't bend anything

Only thing we can think of is we had cleaned up the Cam gears prior to installing and torquing them up, so maybe the washer didn't slide without any oil behind it, and bit into the cam gear as we torqued it up....

We are a little bit dodgy about drilling out the pin without destroying the cam - also can't seem to get the old pin out of the other motor, so may be easier to come up and grab those cams of Chrispy....

Good to meet you Niall - will be at that dyno day for sure - got my boost wound up after you left :D

Get one of these and these and test it it for me :D

    BAKELITE GASKETS FOR NISSAN 300ZX

THESE GASKETS REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF HEAT SOAK INTO THE PLENUM, RESULTING IN LOWER INTAKE TEMPS, IMPROVED RELIABILITY AND INCREASED PERFORMANCE

    PRICE: $45.00 EACH
