Just put my engine back together and in the car.. first off thanks for the help, that lifter freed up and i now have 150 - 160 compression. NOW my NEW dilema... starts and.. OH WAIT thats only 2 4 6 firing. lots of poping from the right bank. removing coilpack plugs make little difference (as opposed to 2 4 and 6) ok so... Compression is good Timing is right Tripple checked injector sequence is right, and have wet plugs, and can see fuel in 1 and 3 with plugs out, and fuel return pumps plenty of fuel... Coil packs in the right order, and have replaced all 7 (yes 7 i cooked one, stupid old brittle ****ing connectors blown air thru throttle body, air escapes thru 1 spark plug (when out obviously) so no restriction. Replaced CAS AND PTU Basically all we have tested, and all other possibilties have been ruled out, and checked that we can think of, because the other 3 cylinders run fine. One thing that confuses me also is i took off the brake booster breather and it smoothed out (leaned out?) but not 100% if all cylinders were running? and poping only stopped at idle, still popped at 2000rpm Is it possible the previous owner who started assembling the motor to have swapped the exhaust cams? would this make any difference? Electrical? how do you check this? but we have spark and injectors Its got me *&#@ed, cos i have fuel, spark, air and compression.!!!!
no just stock injectors. they have been sitting for about a year i believe. but i can see fuel in the cylinder? are you suggesting they might be over-flowing?
take out the coilpacks that aren't firing and put a spark plug in them, ground them to the intake manifold and see if they are firing. has the wiring to the coilpacks been repaired at any stage?
Cars at my place while we get it running - just an update: Had it outside last night - can get it running on all 6 under heavier load only - 50%+ throttle openings it runs on 6 - can get it to run on 1,3,5 only when shutting down 2,4,6 in datascan - seems the injectors are partially gummed up - they have lost their ability to do a finer spray pattern required for low engine speeds/leaner mixtures......but come right under heavier load/flow. Plenum is now back off and Dwight will be out to clean the injectors..... Cheers for the help - this will hopefully sort it out!
IT DOES PICK UP 6 under load (80% sure) Yes cas has been swapped with 2 others, same with the PTU, done the spark plug and coil pack check, Injectors have now been cleaned and tested and re-installed, det sensor has been fixed, so all plenum gaskets replaced... spark plugs changed, they came out sooty as on 1,3,5 coil packs moved around, wiggling the loom does nothing, and slight change when ptu plugs are played with but nothing significant to 1,3,5 NO JOY. next??? will a manual computer run the engine if we just plug in the engine loom? and we have one more loom we wil stick thru the window and test that... the car was running before it was dismantled (i believe)
If problem common to all cylinders in one bank, then consider all the openings on the opposite side of the plenum such as a jammed PCV valve or vacuum pipe(s). Or more likely a blocked EGR pipe on the other side forcing all the exhaust gas through the one bank of cylinders. That is enough to cause these sort of symptoms. The fact that it clears under load supports a faulty PCV valve or EGR prob
EGR has been cancelled/plugged Another ECU has now been tried, runs the same Trying to use another loom currently, but wont reach thru the door, the other plug for the fuel cant be connected. just fed 12V straight to the pump and wont run at al, still troubleshooting that
PCV bypass hoses i just blocked at cam cover end and still got nothing. The major confusion is its effecting only the one bank!! checked for boost leaks etc...
Plugs arnet wet from coolant are they? Just thinking a warped head or blown head gasket could put water into all 3 cylinders. This would stop them from working at low revs but clean out at higher revs. Just a thought. Cheers
If that was the case you shouldnt get any compression on a test? would you The plugs are just black, not wet, they were wet before i got the injectors cleaned
