I an understand the desire to create 'pure Z porn'...I too have the same desire...will look great Graham
Update: Getting started. Well this got a bit hot in the direct sunlight, so the kid set up his tent to work in. Damn thing is big enough to fit a 4x4 truck in with 3x bedrooms. Get the bonnet up and lets get into it. We followed the instruction to purge the fuel from the fuel lines. http://www.ttzd.com/tech/fuelfiltertech.html Easy as. Love the way the 300zx bonnet opens right up and makes life much easier. We followed the instructions as layed out in "Plenum Pull with Coolant bypass" in the "Tech Section" http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.458 The only thing is these instructions are for a twin turbo and the NA does not have water coolant lines to the turbos. After much pushing and pulling, with the occasional missing skin, we got the damn thing off. Like my new Phone Holder. Ee-gads, thats filthy under there. Next we removed the fuel rail to replace the injectors with the reconditioned one's Arvin (pennyarvs) has done for me. Next is the Injector replacment and water bypass.
What the Devil!? Where is the custom Kitty nose panel? Water issue? Any intention of actioning the timing covers to match the theme?
If my car comes up half as good as yours I'll be happy. Thanks Simon. I'll have to grow a mo again to fit the image
Half the injector connectors fell apart or were fused to the injector . Changing these will also be high priority for me good to see your being thorough :zlove:
Nice Work Graham, This is going to look :zlove:. This was the exact colour scheme i was going to use but thought the white was going to be to much effort to stay....well white lol Looking forward to seeing the finnished product at Zedfest Now Chop! Chop! :br: -Scotty
So do you still need a hand this weekend? I'll be over to say G'day / rip your engine apart if you still need it. I'm getting the naughty cats welded in this wed, so the TT can make the epic trip out to the warrumbungles to partake in the festivities. Perhaps even a top speed run around malaley now my speed limiter has been raised
Thanks. I dont mind if it takes a week just as long as it all works out. Custom nose panel is safly packed in the boot and gets put on for show days. No water issues, just protecting it from stone chips ($250 paint job) Timing covers will get the treatment, just not sure which way to go yet. Need to see the base fitted up to make a decision. In time. Thanks. Sort of reliant on my son to help finish (crook back) Thanks. I am aiming for a good wow factor. Thanks. We're getting there. Thanks Scotty. Beat you to it I sort of have the same concerns regarding the white, but we'll see. Chop.. Chop.... all in good time
Yes I do even if I get the plenum done I'll need a hand with Alan's rebuild. Take it easy on the Malaley area. Don't forget the Gunnedah cop.
I'm having a hard enough time just driving the Z without something breaking, let alone going for a new land speed record I think I might stick to my 100km/h until I get it all sorted :br:
Update: Injector fitting. First of all remove the fuel rail from the valley. Do NOT try to undo the screws holding the injector cap as you WILL strip the head. I also do NOT recommend using an impact driver either. Seperate the fuel rails by undoing the connecting rubber hose. Place the rail in a bench vice to hold the rail firmly. The secret is to use a diecent pair of plyers to "crack" the screw. Found this out on a youtube clip. Then use a screw driver to undo the cap of the injector. Resist the urge to "push" out the injector by applying pressure on the pintle. Turn the fuel rail upside down and allow enough space for the injector to fall out. Using a 12mm socket place over the pintle making sure it makes contact with the outer ring of the injector, and the socket will fit inside the fuel rail opening. I also learned this from the same youtube clip. Tap firmly with a hammer and catch the injector as it commes out. This was the condition of one the injectors as they came out of the fuel rail. Notice the broken pintle cap. Thourghly clean the vacant fuel rail with degreaser and water, the blow dry with a compressor. To fit the new injectors, lubricate the O rings to allow easy fitment. I used WD40 and this worked well for me. Another forum member suggested a silicone based grease, but I thought this may possibly block the jet. Do not try to push the injectors in the housing while dry as this may damage the lower O ring and cause leakage and plug fowling. Replace the injector cap and screw up tightly. The final fuel rails ready to be fitted back in the valley of the engine. :zlove: (No reconditioned injectors were harmed in the making of this instruction segment)
Keen as to hear her growling back in glory once this PP is done! Hats off to you for going this path in colour choice, Graham! Subscribed. Arvin :zlove:
