After plenty of PM's and phonecalls...... I have a date for you

    Sunday 7th of Febuary 2010

Start time will be 9.00am for the metro members, you'll need to organise a metup point between yourselves and advise me of its location ..... I dont know melb at all, but would suggest the servo we use for the GOR run as a good example of a meetup point..... remember some zedders from Geelong may also want to make the startline so a place that suits both would be perfered.

we've got just over a month to get organised....... :D

parker Been around for a bit

So I have 5 weeks to put humpty together again

I am not missing another cruise. I need to get into the shed and fit turbos, engine and all the other ancillaries that hang off the motor. I hate working in Canberra and having the Zed in Bendigo. Makes it hard. But I will put in my best effort :)

After leaving Maldon there's an alternate road to Bendigo through Harcourt North, Sedgwick, and Mandurang.
Scenic & fun to drive, should be fairly quiet on a Sunday. Here's a map link to play with -

And some screen shots from the same map link -

Fogartys Gap Road comes in from Maldon on the left.
We'd cut across to McIvor Road, swing left around the reservoir, then North Harcourt Road takes us to Bendigo.
The road looks tame on the map but there's some tight bends and gradients that aren't shown accurately.
It would add about 15 mins to the time normally taken to get from Maldon to Bendigo.

A friend told me that Fogarty's Gap Road crosses the new Freeway rather than going underneath
but I haven't seen the intersection yet.
So I plan to drive these roads and check a couple of things this weekend, will post some pics too.

    Cheers from Mick.

    rough road that

But lots of nice bends and very scenic. good choice :)

I drove that road today looking for pot holes, crumbling shoulders, or anything that might damage a low slung car.
    ALL CLEAR.
But it's a B road so it's not as smooth as a major highway. A bit bumpy in places but I don't mind that.
There was only one other car going my way on the outward trip, on the way back I had the road to myself all the way.
Pics - ( geez my wipers look good :D )

It's a fun drive. The only sphincter moments were crossing the freeway.
What arseclown thought up this intersection ?

There's bugger all warnings on the approaches.

No offset between the approaches and the island in the middle of the freeway so
you're able to sail through without slowing right down and having a good look first.

Give way signs instead of stop signs.

I'll put myself down as a very likely attendance at the moment, I'll probably meet you guys in Maldon and cruise with you from there to someplace after Bendigo.

    Attendance list:

    1. BADZX
    2. R31 Gagz

In regards to the Bendigo part of the cruise, do you want to avoid the main city part of Bendigo, maybe just have a cool spot to stop for a chat and photoshoot? Or do you want to cruise through the main drag / city center...be aware with Bendigo labeled as "hoon capital" you may get some unwanted attention from the boys in blue ;)....if that doesn't worry you guys then you'll be fine

I'm guessing it will be a main re-fueling point in the cruise as well, we have a Safeway, BP, APCO, Caltex and Shell on the Melbourne / South side of Bendigo. I'd say most people will want BP or Shell so I'll try to figure out a route depending on what you want to do in Bendigo.

Let me know what your thinking Kingy and guys ;)

    Cheers!

Renee has a few PM's you should have a look at too..

    Hi Kingy,

Just had Renee forward on two PMs from you regarding the cruise. I doubt you want to spend all day in Bendigo so I think one route through Bendigo with a fuel stop and a photoshoot opportunity should be plenty enough. If you can let me know which road you will be entering Bendigo via I can plan something from there. Also let me know whether you want to avoid the CBD with traffic, traffic lights and cops or take the chance and look around at the heritage buildings. Either way ill figure a route and parking ;)

In regards to the Mt Tarrengower and the issues you asked about:

    1. Access for low Zs is not a problem
    2. It's a narrow sealed tarmac road with railing on the outside of bends to stop you falling off the mountain :p...the only gravel is at the top where you park, my dad quite often takes his mint MX5 for a burn up there.
    3. The light yellow area in the 2nd pic is all gravel, plenty of room to park 20-30 Zs, easily enough room to get a 10-15 Z overhead photo from the poppet head which is directly beneath the arrow in the 2nd pic.

    4. I think the best time for photos will simply be whatever time you get there ;) :p...I'd say you'll be there around mid morning to mid day so the sun will be fairly straight overhead.

I might try and make my way up there this weekend and get some pics for ya to get an idea ;)

Last thing, for your return trip to Melbourne I was thinking you could head out through the Sutton Grange roads, some great country roads through there (I've driven most of them in the GTR) and either come back over Mt Alexander to the Calder or head east over towards Heathcote / Tooborac way. Here are a couple of maps.

Return Route 1 - via Sutton Grange and Mt Alexander to Harcourt and follow the Calder back to Melbourne
    [IMG]

Return Route 2 - via Sutton Grange and Mt Alexander to Heathcore and back along the B75 to the M31 and follow that back to Melbourne (this way is about 1hr and 45min to Heathcote, you could bypass Mt Alexander if you wanted to make it quicker but its a good drive up and down the mountain :D)

Let me know what you think, I might recheck the roads and pick a funner or more suitable route through Sutton Grange (so many ways through there).

    Cheers!

    Craig
