this is a great thread, i've learnt so much already! Is anyone else still interested in this? Can you guys give updates on your installation work and fabrication work? how is it progressing? I'm interested in heading down this GT28R path! Thanks, Matt.
Re: this is a great yes I also think it would be great if someone shared their experience. What needed to be made, what you can do your self, total cost, etc
Wastegate mods Bit of a question guys, is the wastegate mod to the GT28Rs needed or is it just recommended to make them handle higher boost? I.E: Can you just bolt the turbos on (obviously with the 5 bolt Dumppipe) and have them work OK?
Re: Wastegate mods Well, The stock adctuatoirs you get with the GT28R seems to suffer wategate creep past 18PSI. They are also HUGE with a capital H. The HKS actuators and the GT28RS stock actuators are half the size. You have to see where they are going to fit on the drivers side to appreciate how tight it is, and why you need to change the actuators for the smaller ones. 1) they dont creep up to about 28 psi, also they are way smaller to make installation easier. THZX will have his install finshed this week and he intends to post dozens of pictures of how he went about it. You will see what we mean when he posts them. In the meantine check this pic of the sdrivers side install with HKS actuators. Its bloody tight with the little HKS ones, impossible IMHO with the stock ones.
Laser cut bits Ok well thats a fairly convincing argument So was there any news concearning the lazer cut mountings for the HKS actuators? I wasnt in on the group buy but I'm looking ot get a set of GT28Rs from TTZED.
Re: Laser cut bits I will know more when I get to pull out my engine in a few months. Its too hard to try to figure it out without having a block to work on. I have had the replacement oil drain pipe flanges cut already. They are here now. Just havent had a chance to sort out replacement oil drain pipes, as the stock ones are no good on the drivers side and marginal on the passenger side.
