90 dollars each (need 2). get them from caz...cant recommend her enough http://www.cazracing.com.au/catalog/index.php?cPath=22&osCsid=7b887f5b703ccfefa105be0459032fb9 as for getting someone to check your engine. i hear member tektrader is doing some work for members on the side....give him a pm erik
polgar bring it to the tech day, april 12th. See coming events section for details. I've got a intake leak tester and datascan, we'll be able to figure out what's wrong with your car and if you're o2's do show to be faulty then you can replace them. I've been battling fuel economy issues on my zed since i bought it, there's only a few main causes to look for and the tech section pretty much has it covered. I thougt I had everything fixed and then one of my new o2's from the pzp group buy died, going to rip them out and refit with ngk/ntks now. Hopefully I'll be getting 500km+ after that's replaced as i've gone through all the stuff in the tech article, also gone through all of Ash's 6 P's.
yep polgar you could go to the techday on the 12th. sandeep has been having similar issues with fuel economy and hopefully can @ least give you some ideas on where to go next as he's tried a lot of things to remedy this problem. an NA should be getting from a full tank, 500 around town and 600+ on the highway.
Awesome Thanks for that i will be there on the 12th. when i bought the car i knew that i wouldnt be getting that many km out of a tank but didnt think it would be around 300 on a good day lol.
fuel consumption .. N/A ... as an indicator, i kept a full record of my recent trip gold coast/cowra/NSW south coast/gold coast .. a mixture of all sorts of conditions and speeds ..... total distance of 3365 kms at and average of 9.66 litres per 100kms ...... edit: fuel tank holds 72 litres .. take it from there ....
the day before O2 change make sure you saturate the thread of the sensors in WD40. let it bed in overnight. will make for a MUCH easier removal when you plan on doing the replacement. it's probably also mentioned earlier, but to truely check your O2's for functionality, you must have your engine running temp at lest 75 degrees (operating temp) and like Pexzed also mentioned the hotter your exhaust, the more accurate. Then you also need a program like Ztalk that will monitor each O2 individually, as Datascan only does an average between both sensors on one guage readout. Ztalk will monitor both O2's on 2 separate displays. Also, you need to have your idle sittiting at over 2500rpm for a more accurate range readout. Just some tips on more accurate testing.
Hey Benny , thats not right about DataScan (Datascan only does an average between both sensors on one guage readout.) DataScan does read both 02's on seperate gauges
but the demo version of Conzult works and so do all the other programs using the same USB port for the connection. Why would this be? maybe Caz can shed some light. Also i wonder if ECU talk can run off a smart phone yet like a N95 8GB i mean it runs off pda's.....
Testing... Yeah, you have to make sure the car is fully warmed up to operating temperature before the O2's will give a reading. If they are correctly working, they will fluctuate back and forth. Lazy O2's will take a while to fluctuate while ones which are working correctly should start rather quickly. You can buy NTK O2 sensors, which are the ones that come with the car from Caz1 on the forum. They'll cost around $100 delivered each. The O2's are located on the exiting part of the exhaust. On the manifold or dump pipes after the turbo. And yes, you'll need to soak them over night with Inox or WD40 to help penitrate them for removal. You might need a special spanner as well because they can be hard to get to as they are situated low. You can also test the O2's with just a Multimeter. But you can risk damage of them by overcharging. As for mileage you should be getting 500+ from a tank if you drive normally. Anything less will suggest a problem. O2's are one cause because their job is to measure the amount of oxygen left in the system and in turn tells the computer to either richen or lean up the air/fuel mixture. If they aren't working properly the computer wont get an accurate reading and it will automatically richen up the mixture causing you to waste fuel. It can lean up the mixture too which will damage your engine over time. Cheers Rob.
As said, about 200 RPM will see movement. Try the program DR. 300ZX. it's free and has diagnostic tests for a heap of different things including O2's.
Hi the_cypha, Im not familiar with that conzult screen?? When did you purchase the full Z32 Conzult software? Which Conzult download gives you that screen message? Cheers, Caz..
Hey Caz, i couldnt tell you how long ago i got the software but i get that screen when i simply click the engine button on the front screen
ok...i actually hav a question about o2 sensors.....mine arnt connected....the wires hav been cut on them....is this bad? lol can it cause a problem?
means your ecu is guessing (albeit it, educated guessing) on the amount of o2 exiting your exhaust. Basically you'll run rich i believe?
I got around to almost* installing my car pc today so i can the O2 sensor tests again and this is what happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJaO4S56_bg
